Wimbledon Round 1 - Andy vs lucky loser Bublik
They have never played
http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/fedex-head-2-head/andy-murray-vs-alexander-bublik/MC10/BK92
I heard, last night, about Andy's three practice sessions. Though he grimaced, Lendl claimed they went well. I won't mention who is on the front page of today's Sun newspaper.

I don't read that newspaper, I saw it on Sky news paper review.
Radio five live will be commentary on Andy's match tomorrow. So, I'll have the TV and the radio going.

Oh my I'm getting so excited. Especially with the Kim news! Go Andy - you should be feeling very chuffed about things right now!
Just read about Andy and Kim expecting their second child.
He starts at 1pm.
really? I thought 2pm -but one of the good things about being a defending champion is that you know when your first game will be - even if I don't!
NO, 1pm it is, it's on the beeb (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/40473463)

Awww really?! Congratulations to them!
Always knew I'd miss this as I have a commitment every Monday afternoon.
Good luck Andy!
:GBflag:
I had reluctantly come to terms with the fact that I would miss this match. 0ur dog, Jess, has an appointment at the vet hospital in Glasgow on Tuesday, which means me leaving for the mainland at 9.00 tomorrow morning and getting to Glasgow at 4.00 p.m. This morning, whilst walking the dogs, I caught my foot in a rabbit hole, fell and broke my wrist. Now I can't drive. The lengths some people will go to to see an Andy match - always a silver lining!

Positive in that you get to see AM, but what about poor Jess? Hope the wrist heals quickly. Being one handed is a pain in the proverbials.

I broke my wrist when I was younger , its not nice at all , and having to wear a cast is awful too :grouphug:
Positive in that you get to see AM, but what about poor Jess? Hope the wrist heals quickly. Being one handed is a pain in the proverbials.Jess has finished her chemo and her appointment is for tests to see if she is now in the clear. I will have to phone the hospital tomorrow to see if we can delay the appointment until either my son or my daughter can take her. I hadn't realised how difficult it is to type with one hand - I'm useless with my left hand! C'mon, Andy, make all this angst worthwhile!!

So very sorry Alis - the best laid plans .... but as you say, a silver lining for today; your wrist will heal (I went to Glasgow for DC with a plaster-cast 2 years ago after breaking my left wrist) but it's very frustrating for a while. Had a note on my calendar to message you next week re Jess's progress; my two passions - dogs and Andy, and sometimes they do collide! Take care! x
Sorry to hear about your broken wrist, Alis. Very frustrating I know but I'm sure you'll adapt to left handed zapper control for Andy watching.:knight:
All the very best of luck, Andy

Very nervous about today - need a straight sets win to get the confidence going
Has anyone heard of Josh Perry? I heard him, last night, on radio five live and he did an extremely good impression of Andy.
Andy wins the toss and elects to serve not that you'd know from the BBC.
So not looking forward to this. Do your best Mr M:-)

Hello all. So nice to see the lovely grass again. A little nervous as not had many games on the green stuff but Andy will be well rested I guess. Looks like it could be a good match, am here till 3pm then have 5 7 year olds coming after school for minimoos birthday tea. We have been celebrating since last Thursday, had a day out to Yorkshire Wildlife Park yesterday.

Btw my first thoughts are Andy's radar is working. His shot selection is good - his tennis brain is in full view - and I just wonder if he has decided to shorten points in case he is worried about his hip.

I think he is shortening the points, or he's playing Bublik at his own game using lots of drop shots....but score looking good at the moment

Has BBC switched channels again? I have just had to find the match on Red Button.
I was watching on BBC 2 but was instructed to change to BBC1
They ususally move the main matches from BBC2 to BBC1 at 2.00 pm
Because my Sky box is being replaced on Wed, I am having to record this in real time, directly to DVD. So I can't cheat with Live Pause as usual. It's very stressful. Good hold 4:2.
Bublik holding serve more comfortably now. 5-4

Rain stopped play! How often do we say that at Wimbledon?
Now the roof is coming on. I woukd hazard a guess AM will handle the changes better than Bublik (I hope).
And the rain comes - no mention of that in the weather forecast earlier. Really wanted Andy to finish this set quickly now he has his nose in front but guess it will give him a breather. Can't relax til it's finished.
Consolidates the break and the rain returns. 2-0

And stops again!
AM pops out for a game, wins it and then pops back for a chat with Lendl. Bublik must be thinking WTF.

03-07-2017, 13:50
I think it may be a bit of an advantage to Bublik because he has had a chance to talk to his advisers who surely must tell him to slow his first serve a little and be sure to get it in. And cut out the dropshots while he is losing points on the forecourt. But then - they may have given him much advice which I get the feeling he just ignores and plays the way he loves.

It didn't seem to be affecting his movement though he does still have a bit of a limp between points - he said after the match he is in no pain from it. I did think he tried (sensibly) to keep the points as short as possible and I thought he was hitting the ball really well. Some very nice touches and cross-court winners
I thought Andy looked fine today and very well in control. Personally, I didn't see any niggles from the hip. It was a nice short match, played in a fun atmosphere. Onwards for our Andy.

Loved this match! Andy was so quick off the mark and took no nonsense :) also loved the proof that Andy's No1 hasn't changed him. He said in his interview that they chatted during the rain delay :) I don't think this ever happened with other No1s when Andy was starting out!
Yes, an entertaining match, not as stressful as I thought it would be and hopefully the next round will be the same. Concerned about the obvious limp when walking but doesn't seem to affect his play too much! Still got all my finger nails, let's see how many I have a week Sunday!
Haven't read rest of thread. Pleased to see Andy come through so cleanly especially given the interruptions which commies were saying would be bad for hip. Didn't really think he looked like he was limping more than I've seen in the past. He often has a limping kind of gait. Loved Bublik and his game. Could be interesting in the future.
