View Full Version : WIMBLEDON 2017, R3: Andy fends off the Foggy Dew, 6-2 4-6 6-1 7-5
He was determined to make it into the 2nd week even though he was far from his best much of the time so richly deserved. Not pleased with the BBC; his win quickly ended coverage on BBC1 for Peter Kay and when I switched over to 2 it was Q1. I took the dogs out briefly (they needed it!) and I needed to cool off (it had started to rain here)' came in to find Q1 had disappeared and it was the end of his press conference - what are they playing at? Will he still be here this time next week? I honestly don't know seeing the form of some of the others but as always I salute Andy's grit and determination and hope he is, because he always deserves to be there at the finish! So happy for him! x

What an amazing performance from Andy to win this match- such determination- a true champion!
Every match is different so hope he gets a good rest before the next one

They took QI off in mid sentence which personally I was fine about but imagine if you're sitting watching it and boom Andy Murray pops up. Feeling relaxed now but bit of a murraycoaster for the nation to see what we put up with all year round. :strawberry:

From Fognini's presser "I'm really, really happy about my performance, my tennis. Most of the time it was better than him." Scores on the doors which counts Fabio. :p
Not as happy as Simon Reed, no doubt.:p I can hear his commentary on their next encounter already..."do you remember when Fognini played such magical tennis that he nearly took Andy to a 5th".

Oh my goodness- it's stressful this watching in real time isn't it? Can he serve it out. Do I watch or do I hide in the garden - decisions, decisions....!!!
I confess, I hid in the garden until himself called me at 40-0

Got my Andy hat to wear inspired after set one; put it away again after set 2. Moved nearer tv when Andy did well, then moved back again when things got tough. Several times. All because I think i must be jinxing things. What an evening!

That makes me feel so much better:-)

Found a bar with a table in front of tv showing tennis so we could get dinner and follow the match. Some fun banter with one of the waiters who was Italian but a stresssful dinner at times- many forkfuls of food poised kid air during long rallies. So glad Andy pulled it out the bag. And a wee bonus the Tsonga match suspended as we now get to see the end on court 2 tomorrow.

I really couldn't believe how that match developed into such a Murraycoaster. Well, I can as Fognini really played well and pushed Andy. It was so gripping and Andy's fight back in the fourth set was nervewracking. Have to admit he was stupendous, displaying pure grit and real class. Phew...Hope the next one is a little easier for him and for us.:cheer::knight::grass::wimbly:

This is going to a fifth, I feel it in my water.
You need to change your water supplier ...

How on earth did you manage to watch that match in a public place without having a few "When Harry met Sally" type scenes!!! I would probably have been thrown out as I couldn't have contained myself!! Enjoy tomorrow!

Lol! Must be the years of practice- and fact that most folk were also watching. My brother did get a few odd looks at city airport apparently- very obliging of Andy to fight back and finish the match just before he boarded his flight.

Thanks for all the updates everyone. Sounds as though it was a real tense one. Haven't found any bars showing tennis here in Corsica so having to follow live scores when possible. Back home for Mondays match so at least I can record it if I'm at work :thanks::thanks:
Whew, what a match!!!! Haven't screamed at the TV and Andy like that for quite a while. So glad he got it done in 4.
Week 2 here we come. :)

Reminded me of many times gone by on the Murraycoaster. Actually it was the Andy of old.
MAinly defensive, serve erratic, little net play, gritty, determined and a fight to the last.
Thanks for the memories, Andy, but can we get back to the mode of late 2016 please. We can't stand the strain and I'm sure Kim doesn't need it either.

A thriller! A lot of support for Fabio (The Roman Emperor) materialised around me in the stands in the fourth set, don't know if that came across on tv? Reminiscent of the Davis Cup! Go Andy Go!

Fabio really is a pest isn't he but Andy did swat him away eventually. I had to go out after the 1st set so spent a 3 hour car journey watching on livescores (I wasn't the driver!) and then watched the recording when I got home.
Another showing of Andy's sheer will to win. Thought he did struggle early in the 4th with his movement but then seemed to overcome it. Very pleased he has 2 days to recover now. 10th year in a row that he has made the 4th round
The last time Andy failed to reach the 4th round of a slam was the 2010 US Open compared with, Federer: 2013 Wimbledon, Nadal: 2016 Australian Open, Djokovic: 2017 Australian Open.
What a strange match that was! Very relieved Andy came through.
I have moved Josephine's mini blog over to the Memories subforum, so it doesn't get lost here. http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?2945-Josephine-s-Wimbledon-bloglette
Transcript of Andy's presser now on the newspaper thread.
I saw the first set but then had to go out, which was spectacularly bad planning on my part but probably saved my blood pressure. Given Andy's problems this year I actually think it will have been good for him to have a bit of a test in week 1. Fabio is always tricky opponent so he did well to see him off.
