Andy vs Benoit Paire

Andy leads the head to heads 1-0

He also beat him at Hopman Cup, I believe.

rimarli
08-07-2017, 13:34
I see Benoit feels he has a good chance as he won in straight sets against No 120 and 2other players ranked in the 70's. It is a possibility I suppose BurLington think An st would have not 'not turn up' or be injured

Bardot

Will Andy be scheduled on centre court or given what he said it about its condition, he may prefer court 1? Wimbledon should let him choose given he provided them with the only exciting men's match on CC this week.

Andy vs Paire. H'mmm. For Andy, yet another 'character' and one who could spark off quite readily! I remember their last encounter and it was tight and edgy! But I really think Andy has passed his toughest test in getting past Foggy and will be well ready for Paire on Monday.

Bardot
08-07-2017, 21:31
First time Andy will be on the Centre Court schedule with Federer meaning even more RF branded obsessives in the crowd. :hmm:

I see the Daily Fail is at it again with the injury nonsense over Andy's practice. Will they ever desist?

Its when they lose interest in him as a Brit contender that we need to be concerned !
Paire ? - yes. he can be difficult but I think Andy - giving a nice consistent performance - will come through fine.

Concerned about the comments in the Sunday Times today regarding his knee

Whereabouts? I can't find any articles mentioning him today. Found it.

"A semi-final place at the start of the grass-court season in Stuttgart did a lot to endear Paire to the surface and Murray is acutely aware that the man who stands 6ft 5in tall and goes by the nickname of La Tige (the Stalk) presents a distinct threat, especially as there were more injury concerns surrounding the Scot yesterday when he was seen clutching a knee during practice. Murray managed to finish his training session but seemed in considerable discomfort".

ljs
09-07-2017, 17:19
hmmm , that doesnt sound promising , or is the Sunday Times not reliable either ?

Teresa
09-07-2017, 18:03
He does have a habit of clutching bits of himself. I imagine if the hip is giving him grief, you might well see a bit of discomfort in the knee.

Obviously I want him to win the tournament, but realistically I don't think he is going to. I thought if he got into the second week he would be doing well. Hopefully he will get through Paire, and Anderson or Querry, but I think Nadal, Djokovic or even worse Federer will destroy him at the moment, and I would rather not see that.

Bardot
09-07-2017, 18:37
A picture of Andy at practice today looking worried about his hip or is it his knee? :p

The many Paire meltdowns are a joy. From Rome this year although he did win the match. Respect to the umpire for calling over the net.

It would be fun if this happened tomorrow. :big grin: Paire's first round match in Halle which he lost 0-6 4-6 to Florian Mayer although he did reach the SF (losing to Pouille) in Stuttgart the week before.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWeAPNvgtFg

Paire is one of the quickest between serve, just up to the line, one bounce and then boom.

Tricky. Very tricky. This needs Andy's tennis brain working in full mode. Feel that Paire is in control and Andy has to do something to change what is happening. I know Andy holds off from a lot of pace as it increases the percentage error possibility, but that might have to be tried. Not sure what to suggest except hanging in there. C'mon Andy!

Hooooraaaaay!!!! Stunningly classy win in straights. :bravo: Andy you killer of French dreams. What a day with Jo through as well. Muller will serve for a 2 sets lead against Rafa, if Gilles comes good it will be a truly Magic Monday.:peace:

What?!?! But Rafa has been invincible and playing like Superman. :p ;)

What is this questioning from Lee McKenzie? Andy has such patience when met with incompetence.

H'mm good question. Maybe superman is seeing double after that ludicrous head bump  or maybe Muller's incredible grass game is kyrptonite. Either way, I'll take it. C'mon Gilles.:cheer:

Andy certainly finished well and stepped up on most of the big points, however got to iron out these patchy periods. However at the end of the day can't complain too much about a straight sets win and Andy should have more in reserve. As always a some delightful touches and 10th straight Wimbledon Quarter, well done!:swingin::swingin::cheer::cheer:

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo Andy! :bravo::bravo::clap::clap::clap:That was such an exciting match and I'm so pleased that Andy thinks this is the best he has played here to date. But I'll guess we're all still mighty relieved this one is over with the right result! I could imagine all the "come on Andys" being shouted at TVs up and down the country as he served for the match! Next opponent, Querrey, should be more 'conventional', certainly compared to the first 4! I'm so beyond chuffed at Andy's progress to date. Been a great day so far with, I suspect, more drama to come!!

Well played Andy! Some better stuff. Can breathe now. But his next opponent won't be gifting so many poor shots.
