Ballot opens 1st September hehe.
So federer will be defending champion which means he will be on centre first. I don't think there's much chance of getting in the first 500 just before midnight like last year with him defending. It will be full much earlier. Probably an early Sunday morning for me then. This is there's seemed to be more camping and queuing that last.
I need to remember to double and triple check my david Lloyd ballot for Next year after this year's misunderstanding

I'm going second week next year. Travelling on Middle Sunday and staying there till the end. The only way I will go at any point during the first week is if I get a ticket. Queuing for 12 hours to get on Centre Court does my head in!!! All I want to do is go in and watch tennis. I found in the first week I was missing so much cos I was queing!! 2nd week easier to get in and get to resales etc.

I loved seeing tennis on the outside courts in the first week and sitting on the hill watching the big screen for a break. I definitely wouldn't queue for resales every day but I was made up to get to see 2 matches on CC the 1 day I did do resales so it was worth it for me. It's busy the first week I agree but there is so much more to Wimbledon than CC in the first week.

Would definitely consider camping next year but just depends on the draw really, which we won't know till a few days before. We are going to book our same B&B for the whole of the first week and see what happens. If we get tickets for the 2nd week, we will have to re-think. Hope Fed has retired by then ;) ... his fans are an utter pain, pushing people to the ground in the resales queue on semis day!!

Can't stick Pushing my way round the outside courts. It drives me mad. Centre court for me every day if only I was rich ha.
Federers fans get on my nerves bad news is he is prob playing till he is 40.
The thing I like about camping for tickets is that it doesn't feel like queueing. Unlike resale lol. I like it to see lots of players and as many show courts as I can. Next year I plan to stay for the first week with some b&b and some camping. not sure about the second week. Did think about coming home and then returning Monday to queue for quarters but I don't like the idea of missing the action Monday either on tv or live. So I'm going to give that more thought.

There are lots of matches on the outside Courts the first 4 days so, unless you want to see a big name, it shouldn't be a problem. Also quite often you get a better match on an outside court rather than a very one-sided match on Centre or Court 1. Even on the middle Saturday Linda an I easily got on Court No. 12 to see a Ladies Singles match. It is far harder to get on a court if the men are playing. Not sure what I will do next year. My broadband is so slow, TM has become a non starter. I only spent one day in the resales queue (during the 2nd week) and that was fine. I would happily do it again, but if you are only going a couple of days you do not want to spend all your time queuing.

First day as Andy was on centre first. I went to court 18 when I first got in and watched Laura Robson, then I went and watched Andy on the Hill then I got a resale for Centre and saw Wawrinka get knocked out. Tuesday I went in the evening and saw two ladies matches one on court 2 and one on court 3. Wednesday and Friday I queued in resales to get on for Andy and both times got on for him and nadal matches. Thursday I didn't go at all as was ill after queing in full sun for hours on Wednesday.
The following Wednesday I got lucky on ticketmaster, Thursday ballot tics and sat ticketmaster again. Sunday I nearly didn't get in at all but managed to and got on centre for mixed doubles.
The best times j had was when I had a centre tic for sure.
Today I received an email with ticket offer (overseas) for first friday on centre court. The tickets are available until first March.

Lucky you! Overseas ballot must have gone out first. First ballot for UK residents doesn't normally go out until 3rd week in Feb. Sometimes they send out successful applicants for Courts 2 & 3 a couple of weeks earlier.

As Wimbledon is close to my heart, I phoned the ticket office after seeing Gagarin's post. The overseas ballot went out today and they have already sent out for some successful applicants for Courts 2 & 3. The main ballot is due to be sent out on Friday, 16th February so successful applicants should hear on Monday, 19th or Tuesday, 20th February.

Did not enter public ballot this time though in LTA one, less chance but never know!
I'm going for the first week regardless of tickets, accommodation booked. Went for 3 days last year and queued all 3 days which was hard going as we were getting up at 4am! Hoping for some better luck this year with tickets, but if not it will be the queue again, although I couldn't do 5 days in a row so might have to find a bar with a big screen for a couple of the days.

The dog & fox in wimbly village is fab for that...or outside murrisons in wimbledon town where the deck chairs & big screen are. Perfect on a sunny day plus its handy to jump into supermarket for more prosecco when it runs out ;)

First LTA ballot comes out on 19th March.
First LTA ballot comes out on 19th March. Quite a bit later than the public ballot then. This is the first time I have been BTM member for years, but the ballot always used to be beginning of March. The upside is at least you can check online to see if you have tickets .... I will put that date in my diary ;)

There was a small ballot earlier this month for some of the Court 2 & 3 tickets. Also overseas ballot was done earlier this month by email. As per my post of 31st January.
The first proper ballot was sent out 2nd class on Friday, so somebody's post was treated as first class. Successful applicants should hear tomorrow or Tuesday.

Really delighted!! Looking at hotels and flights already lol!! Don't know whether it will be my mum or one of my aunts going with me but two people will probably queue! The middle Saturday is usually really busy isn't it? Hoping to see Andy this time!!
Hope you get some tickets yourself!
Very despondent this morning when no letter arrived, then my daughter contacted me this evening when she got home from work to ask how did I fancy Centre Court on the first Tuesday! She got 2 tickets! Wow oh wow! Great news and so excited! First Tuesday means there will be lots going on around the grounds too. Been years since I have had any joy in the ballot. :strawberry:

Thanks, I think I'll get ....one way or other, we will figure something. Where there's a will and all that. yeah, have really missed DC. Can't totally complain as have been to O2 and Queen's- and Wimbledon. The London events are most accessible during term time and Wimbledon works with school hols so that's been good but Wimbledon is like going home. Do need some DC action soon for a totally different adrenaline rush!
Court 1 tixs first tuesday for me.
Congrats! See you there! X

Congrats to everyone who got tickets ... nothing for me or GillyD AGAIN this year :crying: .... but we will be there anyway in the first week for as many days as we can tolerate a 4am start! 3 days in a row was tough going last year so we will need to have rest days when we watch on the big screen in Wimbledon or in a pub. I was in London for the weekend so squeezed in a visit to Wimbledon. Didn't have time for the full behind the scenes tour but did the museum. They also now include a brief visit to Centre Court in the Museum ticket. Nice to breathe that Centre Court air, even if the place was empty.
Work on No.1 court looks to be coming on. They were working on it even though it was the weekend. The roof structure is now sat on the ground by gate 1, waiting to be hoisted into place. The staff said it's all running on schedule for 2019.
I looked for for Andy as I know he's been spotted training at Wimbledon but no such luck and had to make do with a photo next to his 2013 Final kit and a nice photo of his name on the cup (or rather, on the plinth that the cup sits on - there's no more room on the cup so winners since 2008 are on the plinth)

You can check yourself on the website. I did this yesterday and no tickets but I haven't heard of anyone that has so am now wondering if they just haven't done it yet ... ever hopeful!
This is where you can check. If it works for you. https://www3.lta.org.uk/Members/Ballots/Ballot-Search/ It worked for KevD with his surname and postcode in caps and the space between the postcode but didn’t work for me. I’ll try again in a. But and hope to recognised then lol.

So there is still no news of anyone with LTA ballot tickets ... surely this has to mean they haven't done it yet (pleeeeesae!). It seems they sent out the allocations to clubs today - so maybe those who aren't club members will also hear soon.
Thanks all. It still doesn't account for the website saying no tickets. It shouldn't allow you to check if they haven't done it yet but who knows?! Maybe that's why there have been so many problems with not everyone being able to access it!

I am sure we will see something on Facebook when individual BTM members are notified
I called up the LTA about the members ballot. They gave me a vague response but essentially said they weren't doing the ballot in one big bang on Monday. Not idea how they are or have done it, but it sounded like perhaps they could be balloting for a particular day. So on the 19th, maybe they just did the ballot for Day 1 of Wimbledon.

23-03-2018, 12:28
They were very vague with me too. Given the number of tennis fans on Facebook, I wouldn't mind betting that no-one who is not a tennis club member has yet been advised. Normally something appears very quickly on social media.

I'm definitely going on the 14th. My son is coming with me. We went a few times together in the 80s when he was in his late teens and early 20s so he's due another visit as he's 51 now.:big grin: Glastonbury always interfered with Wimbledon and when it wasn't on they went on holiday.

I was unsuccessful in public and LTA ballot this year. I am thinking of flying over from the U.S. to be there for Manic Monday or Gentlemen's quarters. I'll have to queue overnight, but does anyone have any suggestion how early to start to ensure I get center court for either of those days?

03-05-2018, 05:39
For the Monday ther are often folk queuing from the Saturday. Lunchtime Sunday would be latest I think you could start queuing if you wanted centre court, Experienced queues may have getter advice. I don't think there are show Court tickets available from the queue for men's quarters, I'm sure it's just ground passes. Lots of info re tickets for queue on Wimbledon website.

03-05-2018, 06:35
Men's quarters (11 July) is the last day the queue operates for tickets on Centre and No. 1. I have never queued for that day but would imagine you would need to start queuing on the Monday. I have phoned a couple of times on the Tuesday and been told there were 1,000 people queuing by 6 p.m. There are 500 tickets for Centre and 500 for No. 1.

From experience of last year we got to the queue at around 12.15 on the Saturday before manic Monday. When the queue cards were given we were 483 484 and 485 for Monday. With in 15 minutes or so all centre had gone. The queue was so full that afternoon that I’d imagine court one was gone that evening.
The trouble with quarters is it’s hard to go to the Monday and the quarters. Some people we met on Sunday weren’t coming to manic Monday, they were hanging on for the quarters. In fact some people who got court 1 who were a few tents away decided to give it up and go for centre for quarters.
I can say to gaurantee manic Monday on centre aim for 11.30 on the Saturday. We cut it fine. As for quarters. So many people turn up for that at different times I couldn’t be certain. But i’ve Not met anyone who was able to do Monday and quarters in recent years. When people get back to the queue after Monday night the numbers are very high.
The queue also seems to get more popular each year. In 2016 people getting there a few hours later than we did in 2017 still got centre, whereas we only just got them.

Weather was bad for several days in 2016 that's why I think the queues were shorter. I got there at 4 a.m. in the first week and got fantastic tickets for Court 1 but the Park was a quagmire!
Yeah in 2016 the queues were bad from the first Sunday until Wednesday when we left. But after that the rains were terrible. They were bad Tuesday night. Our tent was really good but a lot of people got very wet. It thinned the heard.
I had a little check on last year’s figures. So sat 8th was 682 by 2pm and courts c and 1 gone by Sunday. People did think that there was only 100 the queue for the quarters on Sunday at 5 but the cut off for centre on Monday was a lot higher than 500 (660 or so) as many decided to stay for quarters.
So my advice for guaranteeing quarter finals would be no earlier than Sunday evening but no later than monday early evening if you want Centre. The queue for Wednesday was over 900 on Tuesday night (around 9pm) last year, even though it was raining heavily. So Tuesday before 9pm would do for court 1. Of course if the weather is better then there may be more people queueing.

We got there at 4am one day in first week last year, I think it was Weds and were offered no 1 or no 2 court. And the weather was great.
i think it was Wednesday too as we missed the train Tuesday and so got back in the queue at around 11pm after decideing to just have another day there. I was 1375 so should have only been offered court 2 but I was also offered court 1. We declined them both and joined the resale queue instead. I think it was about 28c I know got myself an umbrella so I’d have shade!

I will get a more firm plan closer to the start of Wimbly, but for now I'm thinking I'll get in the Queue sometime Monday by midday for Wednesday's quarters - Centre Court. Hopefully some will have ability to stream matches in the queue so I can keep track of what's going on.
There are various live score apps you can use.

Wait, did I read this properly? ... there really were people queuing on Sunday for Wednesday's quarterfinals? So three days and three nights of camping? Do you know what queue card number they were? Hopefully right at the top.

Yes. Not a lot. But some people just want be sure. The way it works is they don’t know their number exactly for Wednesday as they get a card Sunday evening when they arrived but it’s for Monday. They don’t go in. Then Monday they get s card but it’s for Tuesday, only on Tuesday do they get a card for Wednesday which confirms their number. The way to guess is to ask around who is going in when. The people I spoke to thought they were in the top 50 for Wednesday. So well inside the 500. By that night the estimate was 100. In the queue for Wednesday.
But yes some camped for 3 nights and two full days. Though for the Monday we did 2 nights and 3 full days and nearly missed out. There were people there for Monday who’d arrived late on Friday, so 3 nights and 2 days.its easier when one of the days is the Sunday because you don’t miss any tennis. I would like to queue for the quarters but it means missing two days.

Ooooh fabulous tickets Pat, very similar to tickets I've had before. Which side - facing or behind the umpire? I've done both - nice to be near the players at change of ends if you're on that side, but lovely front on view of them if you're on the other side. Either way, they are fab seats.

That sounds great Kath. All I know is Royal Box will be on our left, so can't work out where the umpire is....I'm thinking we may be facing umpire's chair? It's the East Open Stand.

I know someone who queued in the afternoon last year and didn't get in till about 7pm. That was in the first week. I would imagine it wouldn't be as busy in the afternoon queue in the second week but don't have any evidence. 2nd 'manic' Monday is always madness in the queue I have heard but again, no experience of this. The only time I have been that day is with tickets.

I think 1pm should still get you in but there can be a very long wait. Last year there was 8000 before 8am for the second Monday. Following the view from the queue on twitter should give you a good idea about numbers during the tournie. . Other factors that make a difference are of course the order of play and the weather.

Could get some good doubles matches. I went that day back in 2007 and saw men's quarters but that was before the roof and there had been a lot of rain that year. The mens' semis took place on the Saturday. My sister went a few years on that Thursday and saw an amazing doubles match. I think it was something like 24-22 in the final set.
A few years ago when England was doing well in the Football World Cup, it was really easy to get into the grounds the day England were in the quarterfinals. If one of the UK coutries does well again it may be worth considering.

Re Wimbledon resales ballot on Monday 18 June:
I got this reply from LTA this morning to my enquiry asking the time ballot opened:
“Thank you for your email to British tennis.
We sadly do not have a time yet for when this offer will go live on Monday.
We will send an email to all British tennis Team members on Monday when it does, also do keep an eye on our website so you are ahead of the game.
Best of luck in the re-sale.”
Well, I often get their emails late and also am off to Queens that day so don’t think I will be able to try my luck in this ballot. Good luck to everyone who tries!
Well I went on about 10 minutes ago to check and it said the sale was live though I didn’t get an email. I checked numerous dates And courts but came up with no tickets available.
Managed to get tickets on Centre Court for first Thursday. Bit of a shame it won't be Federer that I'll see, but delighted. First time at on Centre Court.
Tried and better tried to no avail, and yes Jerry LTA said an email would come with the link, but guess what they got it wrong again. Great at least someone got tickets, congrats to all the lucky ones.
Yeah I saw one murraynator had got Wednesday, Thursday and the women’s final. Don’t know how many people got lucky but congrats to them. I have ballot for Thursday so can’t be greedy plus we are doing the camp and queue thing sun-wed anyway.

Any other hints or suggestions for first time campers would be appreciated. Wondering if there's anywhere to freshen up at either in the camp site or on the grounds.
Come to think of it, other than the official Wimbledon queue website, can anyone point me to a site that is worth reviewing to get helpful info?

It really depends how big and what type your tent is. It is far easier to get away with a 4 person igloo style that a tunnel. How strict they are seems to vary. Many three person igloo types don’t even raise an eyebrow. Last year I didn’t see anyone turned away as they set up. What happened instead was those with oversized tents were told that theirs were too big on the day they set up. They played dumb and were allowed to stay that day but told that after they had been in they could only return with s smaller tent. That was on the Sunday. After the went in on the Monday when they returned on the Monday night they had a smaller tent. So even if your tent does get you a warning you usually won’t be thrown straight out. For that your tent would need to be a massive family tent, that can’t sit between the white lines they draw out.
Another deciding factor can be how many are in your tent. Last year a 4 man got away with it for their whole stay because they had 3 people in it. I guess they argued that it was less space than two 2 man tents.
So personally I would take the chance. Based on what I’ve seen. If they complain later you will normally be given a day’s grace. If you are staying did one day’s play then you’ll be fine. If it’s two and you need a new tent you can usually pick them up in the charity shops in the Main Street especially if you are a few days in because people leave them there on the way home. A couple of years ago yellowlivi and I had the smallest tent ever. We didn’t have room to move. The woman staying in the tent next to us gave us hers when she was leaving. She had got it from a charity shop on her way to the queue. Yellowlivi used it that week but as she doesn’t camp any other time when we left she left it with the for charity tents near the luggage storage. It probably went back to the same shop.
When you arrive in the queue, you will see it is very well staffed if you have any questions of problems. The you join you are usually clicked in by someone counting numbers. If you arrive on a day with no play (first Sunday before it starts and middle Sunday) you will join one queue. If you arrive on a day with play eg Monday but aren’t going in until Tuesday they will separate you from those queuing to go in that day.
There are white lines painted on the grass with letters at the top of each one. So you can find your spot when you’ve set up. Once a line starts to fill they tell you to set up your tent with the back of it on the white line and the door facing across to another white line. But not peg it in. Sometimes you then have to carry the tent a little while they make room for them you go forward and back a bit with everyone else. If you arrive on a day with no play ie Sunday the queue cards aren’t given til around 4pm. But if you are curious to your number before then a person with a clicker will have a rough idea.
The tents face each other so all the doors open the same way. But they don’t take up too much of the park so often you will see people getting massive games of cricket etc going when there is no play. There are toilet blocks. Lots of them. Not portaloos but actuall loos with reall sinks. There are also showers in the boating place on. The lake but you have to pay to use them.
Usually there are fast food, Iceesm and coffee vans that pull up. Last year there was also a pizza stall and a few others. You can also have takeaways delivered to the gate just make sure you don’t miss then. Technically you can leave the queue for 30 minutes to get food elsewhere, go to the shops etc. Often people tell those in the tent next door when they are going out for a bit incase stewards ask. Usually you get away with it if you are a little more than half an hour. Last year we told the woman next to us we were heading to the car for our coolbox. We’d been gone around 45 minutes when she text to say the steward had just asked where we were. We got back into the park 10 minutes later do gas been gone for nearly an hour. The Steward just nodded to us and nothing else happened. The people the otherwise were gone for about 90 minutes but people covered for them saying they’d been back and were now in a game of cricket. The main thing they are looking for is people setting up and then spending the day elsewhere or the night. The first year we were there a woman set up her tent at 4 then we saw her at 6 and then not again. By 9pm the stewards had moved her tent out of the queue. She didn’t turn up until the next morning.
People in the queue take it seriously so many will report it if they think you’ve spent the night elsewhere or been gone too long.
My advice would be to try an avoid leaving your the site until you have your queue card just to be sure.
They expect people in the queue to go to bed at 10. Really this means you can’t sit outside your tent much later than that and noise must be kept down. Wake up calls the next morning come between 5-5.30am you get up, get dressed etc and get your tent down. We usually get up before the call so we can go the loo and wash up etc without big queues. Once you are sorted you have to take your tent etc to left luggage. I’d advise joining there before 6.30 as it has happened before that people were queuing to hand in their tents when wrists bands were given out. The left luggage near the camping is meant to close at 7 but usually the queue is so big it doesn’t. If you are behind there is another lefgbkuggage on the way into the golf course. You could get in the queue with your stuff and go to this one.
In the past it had been £5 to store a tent and £1 per additional item. Though if you gave a couple of bags they usually let you tie them together and count them as 1 item. You get a ticket to use to pick these up later.
Once your stuff is handed in use the number in your queue card to find your place in line.
Usually around 7.30 they come down the queu with wristbandsfpr centre, 1 and 2. Roughly if your card number is 500 or below you get your pick. 500-1000 is Court 1 or 2 and 1000-1500 is court 2. Beyond that it’s grounds passes so no wristband. Though depending on the matches sometimes people pick different courts or wait in the queue a day to see their favourite the next day. Sometimes it can be higher. Last year Court 1s were being offered to those with 1700 on their card.
After the day’s play if you are rejoining the queue you can pick your stuff up and head back, usually if it’s after 5 you’ll get handed another queue card in the way past. You can follow the queue on twitter. One year we were in the grounds at 5 and realised if we ran we could get centre the next day based on the numbers. We legged it grabbed our stuff and rejoined. You do have to have your stuff though, so one can’t ahead and wait for the other to get the stuff.
BBQs aren’t allowed around the tents but if you walk to the gardens at the back they are there. There is also a good cafe there. Behind where people bbq. You can have small one burner camping stoves. We usually have the trangia. We also take camping chairs.
The park itself is nice. With the lake and the gardens. It’s a lovely spot. Any other questions as I’ve privably forgot to put stuff down lol let me know :) what days are you camping?
Jerry, thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed description of the workings of the queue. :thanks: It is very helpful to those of us who have never done it. :grass: It is appreciated. :bravo::highfive:

Could not have said it better myself. Thank you Jerry.
Hope to be able to meet yiu (and others on here!!!) when I'm there.
A couple questions come to mind, but I'll get them all together into one post soon.
Thanks guys, happy to help.
There’s probably stuff I’ve forgot to mention so questions help jog my memory.
As I’ve mentioned earlier you no longer need cash to purchase your tickets once you get to the turnstiles. You can now pay on card which saves carrying cash about. We often take a little picnic blanket into the queue as there’s a lot of stopping and waiting so we have a little sit lol. There are toilets along the queue so you don’t have to go back to the ones near where you camped. There is also a food/drink van along the way too. So if you are like KevD and one coffee fix after you had in your tent won’t see you through until you get into the grounds then the queue passes om the way in.
Don’t lose your queue card. You need it for your band. Also they check them to make sure no one is pushing in. Early on the will then validate it which a hole punch.
This year there will be WiFi in the queue for bough I suspect it will only be as the queue enters the golf course, not when it’s in the park.

I was lucky enough to get two tickets for centre court on the 7th this morning! My mum and aunt will not have to queue now! I got 2 for Saturday centre court via the ballot so we will be able to go together now!! So surprised to get them but happy!! Seems lots still left for court 2 certain days. Could have got some for Friday the 6th (court 2) but might just queue that day! Did the tickets go on sale before 10?
