View Full Version : Washington, Mexico and Kitzbuhel - July 31st - August 5/6th 2017
I don't think a lucky loser will be winning Washington. :p Even without one of the big 4 it's a tremendous field and incomparable with the 500 in Hamburg last week.

Delpo's ranking killing him in draws again with a possible 3rd round against Keith.

Go DelPo
Thanks to the double espresso I had late last night(!), I was awake quite a bit during the night so I was able to see some tennis from Washington. I only saw the last couple of games of Kyle's match so can't really comment but scoreline would suggest it was a competitive contest. I then moved to the Kyrgios/Sandgren match to find Nick a set down. After losing the first 3 games of the second set, Nick retired. As there was no commentary, I wasn't sure what was going on with Nick, but he was rubbing his right shoulder as he left the court. Next up for me was the Medvedev/Johnson match. Medvedev was a set and a break down (3-4) with Johnson about to serve when Med called for the trainer and the doctor. After popping some pills, Med won the next 3 games and took the second set 6-4 and then went on to win the match. Again there was no commentary so not entirely sure what was going on. There was no physio treatment on court, just the pills. But it was strange. Time had been called after a change over, Johnson was up and ready to play but Med just sat on and there was a lot of dialogue with the umpire. Eventually Johnson sat down again, and it was then that the doctor etc appeared. Hmmm!

Apparently Johnson said to Medvedev at the end "Dont ******* apologize, don't do it, be better than that.... ******* a**hole". Medvedev getting quite a reputation.
Sebastian Ofner reaches the SF in Kitzbuhel which is only his second ATP tournament after Wimbledon. The fairytale continues. Domi who? :p
SF: Kohlschreiber v Fognini & Ofner v Sousa.
Great to see Thanasi Kokkinakis has reached the SF in Los Cabos which will be his first ever ATP Tour SF. Supreme vulturing by Berdych and Querrey (avoiding Washington) who has played players ranked 345 & 165 to make the SF.
SF: Berdych v Kokkinakis & Querrey v Dzumhur
Seeds "crash out" in Washington. Anderson(15) beat Thiem(1) 6-3 6-7(6) 7-6(7), Medvedev beat Dimitrov(4) 6-4 6-2 & Paul beat Muller(11) 6-7(3) 6-4 6-3).

Other than it not being on a BP, this (https://twitter.com/troublefault/status/893301118268297217) is an almost identical situation as in the Edmund/Dimitrov match. The difference being unlike Dimitrov, Thiem conceded the point. Quality from Domi.
Tremendous win for the Kokk beating Berdych 3-6 7-6(5) 6-4 to reach his first ever ATP final where he faces the other vulture Querrey.
Nishikori saved 3MPs in beating Tommy Paul(225) 3-6 7-6(8) 6-4.
Washington SFs: Anderson v Sock & A.Zverev v Nishikori
Kitzbuhel F: Sousa v Kohlshrieber
Yes well done Kokk! Was delighted when I saw that this morning. It is my fervent wish he can now take out Querrey.
Sascha looked very impressive in defeating Medvedev. I wonder if he is the player to spoil Fed's party.
Well done Thanasi and Kei.
Querrey wins Los Cabos beating Kokkinakis 6-3 3-6 6-2.
Symmetrical semis in Washington as both Zverev & Anderson won 6-3 6-4.

:smashed::sad:
I like A.Zverev's cockiness. "I've won 4 finals this year so I'm not an 'in the future' kind of guy."

Watched the Washington final. Zverev was very impressive. Very confident without being cocky. I like him.
Best match of the tourney though was Anderson v Thiem. Excellent battle
