This exho event is coming up and I couldn't see a thread for it. A whole host of top players are entered for it, including Fed & Rafa and new sensation Shapovalov. I understand THat it will be shown on Sky Sports which I suppose means it won't be on Eurosport - so sadly I won't be able to watch it

Aargh horrible spellcheck that should be Laver Cup - can a mod correct it, please?

the court is a 'paint on wood' surface, sprayed on which is why there are a few odd bounces.

Didn't see the first match today but the Nadal v Sock match was very entertaining. Well done Sock for fighting back to make a match of it. I was rather hoping he would win - disloyal to Europe I know - but I would like the rWorld team to even up the score a bit. I will be rooting for them this evening in the hope that the whole tie is still in the balance going into tomorrow. I really like the format and hope it continues.

Yes I was hoping Sock would win just to even up the score a bit but it's hard to cheer against my fave as well. Still, I think Nick has an excellent chance vs Berdych. it was a very entertaining match nevertheless.

It will probably go to the Red Button - you just have to watch for it. There is no Night Session, but more or less continuous play until one team wins the event.

I have actually sent an email to Sky to complain about their new Sky Sports format and the difficulty in trying to find the tennis on their channels. The new format, especially when they move it to the red button, makes it impossible to record the tennis in advance. etc etc etc

Loving the Laver Cup. All the matches have been really entertaining and the scoring system has kept the tie alive until the very last rubber. The players are clearly enjoying the chance to play as part of a team. I think it's a great addition to the calendar and I'm looking forward to watching it again next year, hopefully, with Andy playing - well done the organisers!

cazza99

The score is currently 12 europe and 9 world. The first team to 13 wins.

A win on the third day is 3 points.

If the Team World win Kyrgios vs Federer match then the following applies

In the event of a tie after all 12 matches are played, a final overtime doubles match – a Decider – will be played as a regular set with ad scoring and a tie break.

Alis
24-09-2017, 16:25
The score - after Isner's win - is currently 12 - 9 in Europe's favour. It's been a great comeback by rWorld.

suttontennis

well i would say it was more competitive than exhibitions or charity events, where it's usually lots of flashy shots, a bit of comedy, and a final set shoot out so no-one goes away too disappointed. Having only caught the odd match throughout the weekend things I did notice was, how much of a jerk Kyrgios can be at times even when he's behaving himself, that the Cilic ball bouncing on serve is getting into 'yips' territory, that Berdych isn't the player he was a year ago, his movement is letting him down, and that Shapovalov needs to build more consistency into his game to really challenge the best players.

Caro

I may be in the minority but I wasn't really that interested in the Laver Cup, primarily as I was against the event from the start. There's a place for exhibition type events but felt we didn't really need another one (particularly following on from Us Open/Davis Cup) . Doubt you can tell much about form from these matches, even if entertaining wouldn't want some elements replicated on regular tour/Davis Cup.

My sentiments exactly - I object to this tournament largely because the players complain that they are required to play too much in a long season. It seems pretty mean to me that the players who have now reached exemption status due to age/matches played, opt out of mainstream tournaments/DC or that the concurrent ATP tournaments are possibly deprived of top players. By all accounts there were very good matches, a great atmosphere and fun had by participants and supporters but I couldn't bring myself to watch. Probably my loss and just my opinion.

Yes they would sooner miss a week on tour and play in a lucrative event like this, although given that they are playing at reasonable times and probably spoiled even more rotten than they are usually, it's understandable.

Ha ha same here. Totally agreewith all the reasons against it, hated all the online chatter from journalists about how it's way better than DC- (it's totally different. ) but.... it was top tennis and what I saw oooked fun and competitive . I think those at the the top of running tennis need to work together to reach a better way of making the calendar work, the ITF and ATP are still too much in competition with each other rather than working together with players and sponsors to reach an agreed calendar that everyone can work with.

When it was announced, I intended to go but never got round to booking. It seems like a great event - but I wonder if they will get as many top players next year? If they do, I'll certainly think about going.

To Chicago

Chicago? Is that where it is next year? No, nothing would induce me to go to USA. I thought someone said it was in Toronto?

Yes so great! Fab that Toronto is hosting. And Prince Harry can be reunited with his Toronto g/f whilst he's at it.

I wish it was in Toronto! Probably the next time Team World hosts. Or somewhere in Canada anyway.

Have tried, without success, to find out where in Europe the 2019 Laver Cup will be played. Does anyone know?

If we all start saving now, we might be able to afford the weekend!

Already started! But might have to choose between this and the French Open.

Sure Geneva will be nice place for Laver Cup, however personally the event would not be one of my priorities.
