No surprise that both gasguet and Lopez came through their matches but a surprise that the no 9 seed Bautista agut went out to Chung.
It was a good day for qualifiers. Wu df chardy, Tiafo df paire, and tsitipas df khachanov.

So far today wins for Del potro who upset A Zverev 6-4 in the 3rd, Dimitrov who put out Querrey in straights, Cilic and Ramos Vinolas. Whilst know many here will be happy Delpo is through and not total surprise would have preferred Sacha to progress. (however has already qualified for O2 anyway and will also want to play well at Next Gen Finals) http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/del-potro-zverev-shanghai-2017-thursday

I saw a snip of Sascha's press conference after Cilic's match. Barry Flatman from the Sunday Times asked him about Next Gen and 02. Sascha said if he only plays one, it will be London.

Worth watching Sky today to hear Henri Leconte's views. Could listen to him all day!

So could I. Thought he was great. Loved his humour as well.
Hope he becomes a regular. :big grin:

It will be a shame for Milan and all the fans who have bought tickets in the hope of seeing Sascha there if he decides to miss Milan and focus on London. He is the leading next gen player and as such should be at Milan.
oop for Friday - http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/current/shanghai/5014/daily-schedule
Love Henri - he is a great addition to the team - I really hope they keep him on. Did you see him on Masterchef? He was very amusing.
I suspect that one led to the other.

Couldn't agree more but I think it will be Rafa or Fed.
I hear that Delpo is in hospital having his wrist checked out and that there is some doubt about him being able to play tomorrow. I really hope the visit is just a precaution and not the same old problem rearing its head again.

If Potty gives Fed a W/o I will scream. Too bad he's not on Rafa's side. Hopefully it's just a precaution and he's OK!

Yep. Shame he is useless at desserts. :big grin: I was sorry to see him go as he was great fun.
I enjoyed watching him when he was on tour - he was a good player.
I hope people have contacted Sky asking for him to be added to the team.
Jorge Viale, del Potro’s agent, later tweeted that tests revealed a “wrist contusion” but “more serious problems were ruled out.”
“The doctors put a splint to immobilize the wrist,” Viale added. “Tomorrow morning, Juan Martin will decide whether he plays the semifinal.”

Such a shame. I think he ran out of gas today.
I watched most of the Delpo-Federer match. Really good match, some great rallies. Was rooting for Delpo, but when he went a break down in the third set I had a very strong sense that was it! It was good though to watch a match which had a player I really wanted to win and to become involved and support that player (loudly). And even better when that match contains great rallies. Haven't really done that in ages.....how I miss the roller coaster Andy matches!

Think both semis were enjoyable, hopefully another Fedal final will live up to the billing. In the circumstances Delpo done pretty well but wonder if he would've had enough left for the final, not really the biggest fan of his style anyway.
Whatever anybody says about the Fed, you can not knock his Tennis!!

Federer wins 6-4 6-3. Court playing very fast.

Not the final I was hoping for but Federer was very impressive and a certainly a deserving winner even if the court was very much in his favour. Still expected a bit more from Nadal, all over in 1hr 12 mins.
Nor me but the fast court favoured Fed.
I really hope he will not dominate the end of the season tournaments including the WTFs. If this happens it will be a very disappointing end to the year. Fed will now be looking to end the year as #1.
Commiserations to Rafa who played some great tennis throughout the tournament. I hope he will remember where he was in the last two years and take great heart from that. :pirate:

Hopefully Rafa can turn it around by WTF with Fed.
Trouble is, WTF is indoors too (the roof was closed today). On a fast indoor court, Fed has the advantage. On a slower outdoor court, Rafa has the advantage.
I couldn't watch today's match as I was in church, but I heard that Rafa had his knee bandaged - is that right? :sofa:
Fed has made a pact with the devil to stay healthy and winning til he's 40 so we've another 4 years of this.

Bite your tongue clancy :hide:
I actually take great heart from the fact that Fed is continuing to play amazing tennis at 36 - it gives me hope for Andy. Undoubtedly, Rafa and Roger have been dominant this year but that is partly due to the fact that the five players who finished top of the pile in 2016 - Andy, Djokovic, Wawrinka, Raonic and Nishikori - are all out injured, so there has been less competition for the big titles. Of course, that was also true for Andy and Djokovic last year, with Rafa and Roger out, they were dominant but they had less competition. I remember the commentators after last year's WTF saying that they were looking forward to the continued dominance of Andy and Novak in 2017 - well, sadly, that didn't happen. I had to smile today when they were talking of Rafa and Roger in the same terms for 2018. Who knows what will happen going forward? To be fair to Greg Rusedski, he did say watch for Andy and Djoko returning and the emergence of some of the young guns - exciting times!

Great result, well done Fed, apparently he was in awesome form. Hope Fed or anyone but Rafa wins WTF. This is because at the moment Andre Agassi is the only male player to have won at least one of all of the following : Aus, Wimb, French, US, WTF, Olympic singles gold and Davis Cup title. Rafa only needs WTF, but to heck with that I want Andy to snaffle the Aus and RG and become only the second member of the club.
I'm with you on that one, Rosiebear! I can't see Rafa winning in London though - it's an indoor competition on a hard court - that has to favour Roger. I suppose it depends on the speed of the court though - the court today definitely played to Roger's strengths. Does anyone know how fast or slow the court usually is at the WTF?

The AO will be Andy's 1st tournament back competing , not expecting too much to be honest

Doesn't he have Brisbane as a warm up first? But yes, probably too much to expect an immediate return to top form.

Yes, Andy is playing Brisbane.
