At my hotel, not long to go now :boogie:l am getting excited about seeing Andy playing tennis again. The receptionist told me that the hotel is full because everyone is going to watch the tennis
Eurosport streamed (https://www.facebook.com/EurosportUK/videos/1711799562173970/) the training session with Judy, Andy, Fed and some lucky fans. At the beginning you can just hear Andy & Fed discussing their children. Andy still has a limp but all part of the recovery I assume.

"Ok" he said, "I know you've missed him. Actually, I've missed him too"

It's so good to see Andy back on court again!:dance::dance:
Well, I am furious. It was supposed to be free live stream on Facebook. When I first clicked on it, it told me I have to download the app although I have never needed it for Facebook before. So I downloaded it but then I couldn't find the livestream. Eventually I found it but it wanted me to create a new login, which I did. Then it wants my credit card details! So sadly I am unable to watch :(

Wonder what the new scar is on Andys left shin ? Perhaps they've given Sophia a racket and she's been practising her swing
There's probably some Ofcom rule that prevents Eurosport from promoting the donating aspect of the event. At least facebook have it prominently displayed.

wouldnt surprise me mandiemoo , all for charity , so want to make it exciting for the fans , but their competitive nature makes me somewhat doubt it really

Pretty sure there's a 'gentlemans agreement'. Years ago I read in a McEnroe autobiography that it was commonplace in exhibitions for players to agree to split sets then fully compete for the decider. Gives the crowd value for money rather than a one sided straight sets.

Great to see Andy back on court. The result was never in doubt, Roger winning in a tie break was always going to be the inevitable outcome. But what we know is that Andy's talent is certainly still there, the serve improved massively as the match wore on and the signs are good for Brisbane. There's still 2 months to go till then so hopefully time well spent in Miami can get him to the 100% he wants.
Well I can say that I have seen Federer live. I think it was a sad reflection on him that given it was a charity match in Murray’s home town that Federer couldn’t act like the gentleman he professes to be, and make sure the outcome was what the majority of the crowd would have wanted.
It was very different to last year when Dimitrov left his beach holiday to come to the rescue, and played his part as stooge to perfection. I didn’t have a high opinion of Federer before. I have even less now. He truly is smug.
However I enjoyed it. I am exhausted now, which doesn’t bode well for the fact I have to spent a good part of the rest of the week taking measurements of trees in the local woods.

I totally agree, Teresa. I love watching Fed and have stood up for him many a-time, but thought last night was a little off. I know that the main thing is raising money for charity, so well done Fed on reciprocating and supporting Andy's event - but come on! Of course if it was a real match the outcome would have been guaranteed given Andy's current status but charity exho are always played in a totally different spirit. Dimi was perfect last year, as Andy was in Basel, but Fed just couldn't help himself, I guess. Oh well, who cares, Andy's got far more important things on his mind. :)
I've never been Fed's biggest fan but watching on TV, Andy spoke to him at the last changeover (7-5 Fed) and I can't help thinking that Andy maybe told him to go for it. There were a couple of points towards the end of the second set too where Andy hit the net after Fed appeared to set the point up for him. Maybe I'm just getting generous in my old age but I didn't have a problem with the spirit in which the match was played.

Ah, I didn't see that. Yeah, they clearly get on well and there was a great vibe between them, which is why I was a bit baffled, but that would explain it and typical of Andy to step aside.

I am not a fan of Federer but I thought he set up a quite a few points for Andy to win but he just couldn't do it. I think Federer was being very generous and did not play the way he can play.

No I could see that, but it wouldn’t have hurt him to extend that generosity to a few more points. All he had to do was chuck in a few double faults. One could also question whether he was actually being generous, when the whole point of it the exercise was to showcase Murray and his charity match, just as it was in Federer’s own charity match. Federer chose to win. He could equally have chosen to lose, which is my eyes would have been the gentlemanly thing to do. He didn’t. Anyone with even my limited knowledge could see the second set was rigged. Had AM won, not even his most deluded fan would have believed it was a proper victory. It would however have made them happy. I still think Federer came out of it badly. The win at all costs mentality is undoubtedly why he has 19 Grand Slams, but give me AM any day. Federer is a modern day Dorian Gray to me.

08-11-2017, 13:22
I'm not remotely a Fed fan but couldn't fault him last night. I think most of the crowd were there to see 2 of the top 4 play a competitive tennis match with a bit of a laugh thrown in. There was no doubt that 80% of the match was as competitive as it could be. I think more questions would've been asked if Fed had actually lost to someone playing his first match in 4 months.
I enjoyed it and there was no doubt that Fed was somewhat surprised at times (notably that backhand pass) by the level Andy was playing at.
I think if Andy had felt up to 3 sets followed by doubles then he would have won, and was forced to make the decision mid-match.
Josephine

I thought Fed was pretty good throughout the whole evening. When they spoke at 7-5 in the tie-break that was when he gave Andy the Jimmy wig. He was up 7-5 so why would Andy have to say 'go for it.' He could just have tanked the points.
Fact is Andy hardly got a first serve in in the tie break apart from one great ace and missed some easy shots so Federer maybe couldn't lose!
Think they arrange the 2 sets and then go all out in the tiebreak.
Apart from all that, Andy played so much better than I expected - was so great to see him hitting the ball really hard and making some great shots. I enjoyed the whole thing but a shame the doubles was so short - guess Andy needed some recovery time with the physio.
When I saw Andy play at the beginning of 2017, I could not believe how passive he was being and I didn't have great thoughts for the year ahead. So really good to see him being aggressive and playing with purpose. Hope he plays like that against everyone.

I thought the event was played in great spirit from both of them and I warmed to Federer quite a bit as a result ( I've always enjoyed watching his tennis and it's not his fault the commentators gush all over him and his fans are nuts. ) Definitely felt he set some points up that Andy didn't take advantage of. I've no issues with the outcome.
As fov Castke's comments- yes Andy was hesitant in his movements at times but I'd say there was a huge difference from his last couple of matches at Wimbledon. And loved the aggression.
I, too, am no Fed fan, although I do think he has been less arrogant of late than he once was. Normally, I would agree with you, Teresa, but I am more than happy with the result last night. I think it would have looked like an obvious fix if Andy had beaten the very much in-form player while playing his first match in five months. Of course, we know that sharing the first two sets was probably prearranged but it didn't look as obvious as it would have done had Andy won. I don't think the result mattered one jot - it was a very entertaining evening and, hopefully, raised a lot of money for Andy's two charities.
@ Alis - fair points. I think I just suffer from Federerphobia........
I loved the whole evening too, including Fed! I didn't care at all about the result...the main thing for me was enjoying Andy back on court and to see some of those magical shots of his still working very well. In fact, it reminded me just how talented and special Andy is. And in light of the news about baby daughter #2, I don't think Andy cared one bit about the result either. He is probably on cloud 9 and the fact the evening was a success and raised lots of money for his charities was good enough for him.
I see Andrew Castle is rather less than positive about what he saw on the Beeb Website.

I've just watched the Eurosport version back. You can hear the Murraynators and their songs and in my section they got everyone else involved in the clapping etc to swell the noise. Their plan was to all wear bright pink and sing from around the stadium as they weren't all going to be sitting together. Supergran is right - they filled the Indian top floor (almost) and were giving out song sheets to any one else so they did well.
Andy didn't appear to be hobbling as much on the tv as I thought he was in the arena. Fingers crossed all sorted for the new year. I had a great time - very enjoyable and lovely to meet Supergran and Passionanda and Mr Passionanda - I hope he enjoyed it as much as us :) btw - saw you both on Eurosport several times.
ps - I'm going to admit it... I did care a bit about the score ;)
I sat in the 'lap of the gods'. I'd never been there before and found the staff to be extremely helpful as to where my seat was, as usually I get "it's up there somewhere" or "it's down there somewhere". Even after the match had started, people were still coming in and finding their seats which meant my view kept being blocked from watching it. I was one of the last to leave and the staff didn't seem to mind. I had a great time and would consider going again, if they do it next year.

Lovely to meet you too Rosalind. I did enjoy the whole day thanks to my lovely forum friends. Seeing Andy and Jamie was wonderful and loved the humour and fun especially in the doubles. I too did care about the score. It was Andy's event and even though he wasn't quite up to par Fed could have eased off . Show off. I was also disappointed that so many left after the singles, bit of an insult I thought. A fantastic night.
