I do like the idea of the winners/ runner up getting the choice to host their first tie the next year. Seems mad two play 3 matches on one day though as the tie could be decided on the first day. Then just one dead rubber the next. If it has to be 2 days it would be better with the doubles on day 2. First up so it stays a live rubber

That's what it says they are doing - two singles matches on the first day, then the doubles followed by up to two singles matches on day two.

Having 5 in a team is good for the specialist doubles players - can have two doubles players and still have a place for a "spare" singles player in case of injury etc.
