Well he can believe all he wants but it won't happen. Daniel should have retired probably 2 years ago for one thing and Vashy's playing horribly right now, as is Frank. The only decent player we have is Denis but he can't do it by himself, sadly.

I had similar problems a few times while trying to follow GB scores from work-I had just assumed it was due to the dodgy signal where I work.

Don't think it's a dodgy signal in this instance. My friend was also having trouble with the DC phone app. I see it was updated this evening so I hope that helps a bit. But the web version suggested by James is a good alternative.

Yeah I was expecting Croatia to win in straights so when Canada won the first two so convincingly I thought YAY! And a break in the third more YAY! Then I don't know what the heck happened. Disaster. BUT I thought Vashy and Danny played lights out tennis for the first 2.5 sets and it was sooooo exciting. Still, VERY DISAPPOINTING tbh.

They played great for the first 2 1/2 sets , but halfway thru that 3rd set , something gave out , I know Daniel said he was worried that if it went to 5 he may not have the stamina for it , and Vasek has been sick , but still , they were only 2 games away from taking the match !!!
COMPLETE Collapse imo

Yes that is a really tough loss esp. as Danny could have really gone out with a bang, which I think was motivating him in those early sets. But still he did play amazingly well esp. considering it's clay. Both served very well until....at 4:2 up in the third when they didn't.

Yes I'm so sad for him. I really wanted him to go out with a great win. Should have been! :grrr: I do hope he becomes DC Captain one day too. Not sure Frankie is so great tbh. I don't want to sound ageist but he's too young methinks. And he's not as talented as the players in the current squad either. Denis didn't do well today, so bad tie all round. Oh dear! I said it on twitter and got criticised for it but Canada really needs Milos!

India are without their number 1 Yuki Bhambri who withdrew last week due to injury.
Encouraging for GB as if we draw China in the play-off then choice of ground would be decided by lot whereas India would be an away tie.

Didn't fancy going to India, to me one of the worst options together with Uzbekistan and Pakistan. On the other hand wouldn't mind a trip to China though a home tie would be even better. Uzbeks have Istomin who has won the opening rubber there took the first set 19-17 in tiebreak, opp retired 4-1 down in the second

BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/44587952) - Amelie Mauresmo: Andy Murray's ex-coach to captain France Davis Cup team

Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo is to become France's first female Davis Cup captain.

Mauresmo was the first woman to coach a leading male player when appointed by Britain's three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in 2014.

The pair worked together for two years and Mauresmo later took charge of France's Fed Cup team.

"I am thinking of Andy because without him I would not be here today," the 38-year-old said on Saturday.
"He had confidence in me when others thought that it was an aberration."
French tennis federation (FFT) president Bernard Giudicelli described the decision as "completely groundbreaking".

Wow!!! The first match was great in that Milos won decisively and quickly then Denis came on and after losing the first two sets he looked so defeated and ticked off we thought we'd be catching the early train home but then he rallied and the crowd went nuts. Awesome come from behind win!!! And we ended getting home well after midnight instead. Kudos to Robin Haase who played really well tbh. I just think Denis went up a gear or two whereas Robin was already playing at his best level. Reminded me a little of when Vashy won in five sets in Ottawa last year.

Looking forward to the dubs today!!! And tomorrow they are having a special farewell ceremony for Daniel Nestor before the singles matches commence.

Well, sadly, they lost in 4 sets but they did win the first set at least. Daniel's serve let him down big time but Vashy played amazingly well. He made a very emotional speech afterwards that choked me up. I think he was super disappointed that he went out with a loss and made a joke that Milos had been telling him all week long that he should have retired 1.5 years ago.

And tomorrow they have a special ceremony for him before the singles so that will be awesome.

What a shame that he couldn't go out on a win - still great to have his last match on home soil.

Yes I think he was especially disappointed to lose in front of his daughters who've never really seen him in is peak, but he made a joke about having video and photos to prove he was once a good player!

Just got back. Altho' I am really happy Milos and Canada won today meant there was no fifth match which SUCKED! Lots of people came today expecting to see Denis play and were denied. Lots of grumbling folk on the way out. And they didn't tell us why Robin Haase didn't play altho' the replacement player did a good job, I thought.

Anyway, fun weekend and so good to have it close to home, but wish I could have seen Felix play the dead rubber.

Also nice to see Daniel's Hall of Fame induction ceremony and afterwards I met his two young daughters in the loo and they were adorable. AND oor ANDY MURRAY appeared in the video they made. He said even tho' he doesn't understand or follow basketball he always beat Daniel at fantasy basketball.

Forgot to mention Gene Simmons from Kiss was at Friday's match. Posed for photos on the way out past us. Trying to figure out whether he was wearing a wig or if he just dyes his hair. Am going for the former...

Very happy for Team GB as well. :boogie: :GBflag: And Croatia and France.

According to that article British viewers can live stream the weekend's action by signing up to an ITF TV match package for €4.99.

Has anyone done this.

For the first time since I can remember this isn't being shown on Cdn sports tv at all - I sent tweets to both sports channels to ask why but neither have responded. Luckily I found a very clear and good quality livestream. I really want to watch the doubles as Team France are my second fave team behind oor Jamie/Bruno.

It's a real shame they don't have one dedicated tennis channel on which all the tennis events are covered. :swingin:

I used this for the last tie and it was fine. Not had a chance today.

Pity Tsonga ailing and Croatia in strong position after Coric beat Chardy in straights earlier. Thought it was originally reported that BBC were covering this (must think other events more important), though they've only recently covered non GB ties (always used to be Eurosport/Sky but alas not given due prominence this time) As it turned out could not have watched much live today anyway.

Yes, it has been a cracker. France had 3 match points at 5-4 with Pavic serving at 0-40 against a VERY noisy crowd saved all 3 and held for 5-5.
France wins the tie-break and the match in 4 sets.

Talking about signing up for tennis channels. I am a wee bit miffed that tennistv does not show WTA tennis, grand slams, exho's like Laver Cup and Davis Cup. I really don't want to pay extra. Crazy!

Cilic's 7-6 6-3 6-3 win over Pouille (who played well and did all he could) gives Croatia the win 3-1 over France in the last "proper" Davis Cup Final.

Well kudos to Croatia but I'm soooooo disappointed for France. I don't know why they didn't have Gasquet playing, or Gilles Simon, or Paire. Gasquet is really good on clay.

Question: who's the REALLY tall Croatian player in the middle of the trophy presentation group???

I think that is Skugor - same height as Cilic 6ft 6.

Well done to Croatia and Cilic did not give Pouille too many chances, pty though France did not have a stronger team. At least they extended the tie with the exciting doubles win though a even if not best contest throughout the years, disappointing that's the end of Davis Cup as we know it but some great memories!

It's a good time to be a teenager in tennis apparently:-

18-year-old Belarusian Daniil Ostapenkov is yet to play a professional tennis match at any level. He just shocked world No.15 Diego Schwartzman in straight sets in Argentina. It's been a wild September for teenage underdogs in tennis

although the Argentinians put that surprise behind them to win the tie 4-1. Belgium came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in Bolivia, Ukraine won both final singles to beat Israel 3-2, and Peru beat Serbia the same way. I prefer the DC way of playing, doubles as the 3rd rubber, instead of the 5th as in BJ Cup.

I haven't seen all that many Fed Cup/BJK Cup ties, but I'm pretty sure that doubles hasn't ended up playing a part in any of them. Maybe one of the qualifiers in Bath?
