Year End Top 8 Predictions for 2018

OK folks, time to put your thinking caps on!

Can you predict the unpredictable??
Will the "Big 4" all end 2018 back in the Top 8?
What will happen to the NextGen stars?
Where will Andy finish the year?

All you have to do (ho! ho! ho!) is predict the Top 8 players in the order you think they will finish in the ATP rankings as published on the Monday after the World Finals and Davis Cup Final are over, i.e. the year-end rankings

On top of this as a tie breaker you need to predict the ranking points of the world number 1, the world number 25 and our own Andy Murray. (NB If you have Andy as your number 1, you only have one guess at his points total, which will count twice). You don't have to predict who the number 25 is!

The scoring is as follows:-
1 point for each person you correctly guess who ends in the top 8
A 2nd point for that player if you have them positioned 1 place away from where they end up (eg you predict Andy as number 2 and he ends up as either number 1 or number 3 then you score 2 points for Andy) - you will also still score 1 point if the player you predicted in 8th spot ended up 9th despite missing out on the 1 point for that player not being in the top 8
You get the maximum 3 points for each player you predict in the right spot.
The maximum points are 24 for getting all 8 in the top 8 and getting them all in the correct order. Simples ...

If we end with a tie under this main scoring system then it will be the closest person to the correct total tie-break score. In the unlikely event that the tie-break is also tied then it will be the person predicting closest to Andy's ranking points, then the number 1's ranking points and if this has still not broken the tie break it will be a tied competition.

As an example, the (unexpected!) perfect prediction for 2017 would have been:-

1. Nadal (10645)
2. Federer
3. Dimitrov
4. A Zverev
5. Thiem
6. Cilic
7. Goffin
8. Sock
Andy: 2290
25: 1695

Go on, have a go!

The deadline for entry is start of the first men's singles match of the Australian Open. Play begins on Monday 15th January in Melbourne so for clarity that's likely to be 00.01 in the UK. Edits are allowed up until the closing time. As an incentive for people to guess all three of the tie-break points, if you leave any out you will get the unlikely default values below:

1. 20,000
Andy 20,000
25. 3,000

Good Luck everyone with your predictions for 2018!!

Just a quick reminder that this competition is still open - although your crystal ball will need to be well-polished this year if you're going to make an accurate prediction!!

Well, nobody predicted that the year-end top 3 would be Nole, Rafa and Fed!
However James and karanga did have two of them in the top 3, while Manaus had six of the top 9 in his selection, but none of them in the right position. The tie-break was well-used this year, with Manaus eventually coming out on top!
