Sydney and Auckland - main thread
One of the biggest names in world tennis has touched down in Auckland.
Argentine star Juan Martin del Potro arrived just after 5am on Friday morning, on a flight from Santiago.
The world No 11 has returned to Auckland for the first time since 2009, when he blazed through a quality field to lift the trophy as a teenager.
His safe arrival will be a much needed fillip for tournament organisers, after the weather related dramas of this week.

Interesting draw - hope this is covered by Eurosport or Tennis TV

According to the Radio Times Eurosport is covering Sydney. No mention of Auckland.

Tennis TV has both Sydney and Auckland listed.
Does anyone know is Auckland is available on the Eurosport player? I know Sydney is on the tv. I don't have tennis tv but would like to see the match between delpo and kachabov tomorrow.
I just followed live scores today, ferru beat Sousa 6-2 6-2. I hope he is on the way up again. He plays Chung in the quarter finals tomorrow. Sadly I can't see a ferru delpo final because of the draw but I would settle for a semi and either man in the final lol
After 6 holds of serve each delpo finally takes the first set in the tie break 7/6 (vs Kachy) a different second set though as he has a break early on 2-0 on serve.
Ferru came through his match 6-3 6-2 to play the winner of this one. The other semi will be hasse vs BA
Delpo takes the match 6-3 in the second set and faces ferru next

Wish they were showing Auckland rather than Sydney on Eurosport. Miss seeing Delpo.
Just watched young De Minaur beat Feliciano. He really is good to watch and in many ways reminds me of Andy. Seems to know when to play the right shot. Paire up next for him in the semis.

I've been telling hubby the last couple of weeks 'this kid is good' this kid reminds me of a young Andy' and today 'maybe world no:1 in a few of years'
his career path will certainly be interesting to watch and makes Andy's absence a little more bearable

I watched it too and completely agree Pat. Did one of the commentators say that he beat Paire last year?
Just checked and Alex won 6-3 3-6 7-6(1) in R32 last year.

Yet to see De Minaur though seems promising, remains to be seen though if he will be a really big star in future.
I expect he will come through tomorrow though the semis though I may have cursed him. Tomic was going to be huge and it could be easily argued that he never reached his potential. Guess time will tell.

De Minaur seems to be a completely different character to Tomic. De M appears much more in the Murray mould of chase everything down and "never give up" which certainly can't be said of Tomic on at least some occasions.

I agree. And tomic did show signs of the problems that he has now early on. I hope DM's future is as bright as it looks now :)

Delpo won the match against ferru and 64 64. He is into the final and plays BA who came through a tight match 6-7 7-6 7-6 against hasse.
In Sydney medvedev df fognini 2-6 6-4 6-1 he will play the winner of paire v deminaur which is still going. Paire took the first set 6-4 but lost the second 1-6 and DM in a break up in the third 2-0
Great play from young De Minaur to beat Paire great to watch!!! Very well fought!!!
De Minaur carries himself very well in interviews!!!
De Minaur does it again! Lost the first set but came back to win the next two 6-1, 6-1. The score belies how hard he had to work in the third. Two very long service games where he refused to give up...giving up does not exist in his mind....so like Andy... and the final point of the match proved that. It was amazing! Paire may have somewhat handed it to him in the final game but Alex produced the win when not quite as sparkling as he was yesterday.Thanked the crowd for getting him over the line. Interesting that two of the 'next gen' are in the final tomorrow. I hope Alex has enough left to make it an exciting match. Looking forward to it.
We know what Andy is doing... I wish I was as grown up as Alex de Minaur on the tennis court ☺️ great attitude! Love watching him play
That was a tweet earlier today, not sure how to copy etc from my phone lol!
Alex certainly has Andy's grit & determination.
Well what a match, great learning curve for young Alex, boy did he fight back but not to be, but he has more to look forward to, great to watch & what a crowd to back you up "brilliant" no shame Alex!!!
What a super final between two young men giving it their all. I would have loved Alex to win, but credit to Medvedev for hanging on in there after a tremendous fight back from Alex. Great to hear Petch in commentary too. He said some interesting and sensible things about both players. Whilst we have our Andy to cheer for, the Aussies now have their Alex. How exciting for them. I remember being so excited about an 18 year old Andy, and oh boy, did he reward us richly and then some! I saw Andy's tweet about how impressed he was with De Minaur's attitude and there is something about Alex which makes him very appealing...his resemblance to Andy in many ways??
Neither final went my way. I really thought delpo would defeat BA :( Alex did put up a good fight. He's had a great week. Hope both he and delpo can find the positives despite their final results.
A great match between two very worthy finalists - a thoroughly enjoyable watch.
