lol, looks like Tomic gave a good account of himself but Monfils won 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

Very good effort from Bernard but in fairness Gael could and should have been through in straights. His mind wonders waaay to often.

Yes, I'm a Tomic and Dimitrov fan. They play a style of tennis which I enjoy watching from the youngsters.
Close match v Monfils.
I really like Tomic and Dimitrov too - their games are interesting to watch. Tomic in particular has really made a breakthrough this year, will be interesting to see what progress he makes in 2012.

Isn't it Tomic's birthday today.....or have I dreamt that?
Yes, it is. He's 19 today.

Well hopefully he's learnt his lesson!
Yes, it is. He's 19 today.
According to some sources that's under dispute - there are those that would have it that he is actually 21 and his father falsified his age to allow him longer in the juniors.
Well, of all the gossip I've read about Tomic (and there's plenty) that's the first time I've heard that one!
Semingly, it was all over the Australian tabloids a little while ago but I dare say it's like here - if you believe 50% of what you read in the newspapers it's probably about 25% too much!

My apologies if this is on the wrong thread. I understand the thread for newspaper reports is for Andy-related articles only? This is an interesting alternative take on Tomic, and to a lesser degree, Kyrgios. And there is also a reference to how Andy's (hard) work ethic has helped him to be where he is today....

Tomic's interview was awful. Some of things he said were just beyond sympathy. If he is bored of tennis then perhaps he should retire rather than than earning nearly $900 a minute for doing next to nothing. He is robbing the fans, stealing their experience as well as their money, depriving his opponent of real match play needed to progress and bringing the game and the championship into disrepute. It alsways surprised me that nick gets more attacks than tomic. He is by far the worst sportman int he game. From his gloating about faking an injury during a match to put baggy off to denying he challenged and taking the opportunity to cheat after his opponent stopped play because of the challenge he denied making. To his comments about Rodrick. It is worse than youthful arrogance or ambivalence. I'm not surprised his fine is one of the highest in the championships history. It has been coming for a long time. I would have withdrawn the whole lot of the prizes money he was given not just $20,000
In his interview he says he is just being honest about how he feels and his lack of motivation. But we all have to et over a hurdle in somethings and we all have a time when motivation is tough but we find a way. This behaviour has not just arisen it has always been there and he has caused similar problems before. He says he is joking to appeal the fine but I hope it is upheld. Maybe then he will begin trying to change his ways. No one is asking for a miricle just for him to start trying! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.heraldsun.com.au/sport/tennis/wimbledon-2017-bernard-tomic-hit-with-20000-fine-for-faking-injury/news-story/2dc4d68f3816f4d065c9d1c2edce2154#scso=uid_WV4iigAA 6zIKwAEjKAi-1w_37:0

Tomic with few defenders at the moment and know things said in this heat of the moment but seems to have little regard for the fans, his attitude in the Micha Zverev match and afterwards certainly was unacceptable . Obviously not everyone makes the best use of their talents and there can be distractions but if he wants to stay in the game needs to make some effort. Just some of the past controversies http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2016/05/tomic-controversial-match-point-im-23-and-worth-over-10-million/58375/ http://www.newstalk.com/LIST:-The-many-controversies-involving-Bernard-Tomic
Double standards? Sharapova takes a banned substance and is almost sanctified by Head whereas Tomic is too honest and is kicked out.

I have to admit it does seem like double standards however I would dropped tomic if I was head, I just would have dropped Maria too

Now there we are in complete agreement. I found Head's support of Sharapova appalling.
If the reason for dropping them is to not be associated with actions or words that bring the game into disrepute then both did that. I imagine the reality is they realised they could take the moral high ground with tomic because either they wouldn't lose any money or he would cost them some. Whereas Maria has such a following dropping here would only cost them money. Head is a business I guess. So they make decisions based on the financial implications. Also from a PR point of view more people support Maria, tomic is increasingly disliked
