What a great match. Well done J&B as that was tough. I feared for Bruno if they hadn't won as Jamie was aggressively hyped especially in the third set. ;) Since when did Jamie start serving from a metre behind the baseline? At least he's not going to be foot faulted.

Tiafoe's a character, going to enjoy watching him in the future.

A good stiff opening test for J&B. Good match and Tiafoe in particular was very good. How lovely to have proper scoring. There was a hard fought 7th game in the final set with lots of deuces which made it so much more tense and exciting. And which gave J&B their break. It obviously meant a lot to Jamie to get the W. He turned to the crowd afterwards and let out a big roar. Well done boys.:clap::clap:.

Great to see Jamie and Bruno getting the win though it was by no means smooth sailing. Well done guys :)

Certainly tight but unfortunately Jamie/Bruno go down 8-6 in 3rd set breaker to Paes/Raja, too bad! Hoped for a good run here but not to be

Bardot

Unbelievable 3 points by Raja from MP down in the TB to win the match but Bruno had a mid court ball which he should have done better with on their MP. That's a tough loss but the portly pair of Paes & Raja did create more chances. Great match. Raja's an unheralded legend.

Stell

I know Paes is a very good doubles player, but he is beatable and Jamie and Bruno should have done better.

Bardot
20-01-2018, 09:31
Dom Inglot & Marcus Daniell are through to the 3rd round after beating Paire/Nys 6-4 6-2. Paire had a stomach muscle injury and was only able to serve underarm but didn't want to let his partner down. They play Podlipnik-Castillo/Vasilevski next who beat Herbert/Mahut(4).

Unsurprisingly, Kyrgios/Reid have withdrawn from the doubles.

Bardot

Great scenes as Groth in his last tournament and the "retired" Hewitt beat Rojer/Tecau(3) 7-5 in the third set.

JAMES4578
20-01-2018, 11:03
Fab for Groth and Hewitt, well done!

Aw J & B, what's to say? That was the tightest of tight matches. I do think J&B missed some chances in the first set especially when Jamie was serving for it, and the final set TB was so tense. Pity J&B couldn't have pulled it off. I have not seen Paes so animated and pumped up as he was in this match. It was quite funny how he pushed and shoved (in an encouraging way) Raja around until finally Raja was so pumped up too he was leaping for joy all over the place. It's a pity it was at the expense of our boys.

Disappointing. I hope they stick it out through this sticky spell - I'm sure things will get better.

The Great Escape! Forget equal prize money, Jamie should give his share to Chan who carried him to victory. ;) Maybe he was suffering after yesterday's tough loss but he didn't look sharp. Thankfully he came through in the MTB.

Looking at a replay of the final point I think Jamie said "you were awesome" to his partner. Truth.

I enjoyed the match but was a little concerned about Jamie.

Alis
21-01-2018, 19:01
Neither Jamie nor Bruno seem to be on top form at the moment. Hopefully, playing the mixed will help them both find their mojo sooner rather than later!

Bardot
21-01-2018, 21:49
Bruno was a guest on BBC5LiveXtra yesterday and have to think that Jamie was also scheduled to appear but was still suffering after their tough loss. What a contrast to Bruno who says he takes 15 seconds to get over a defeat, "at the end of the day, it's just a game". Great partner to have. Short extract of his interview (https://twitter.com/alcalejon/status/954637056545906688).

Just found out about Chan and Murray losing in straight sets. If Hingis hadn't retired, I expect they would have won it.

Dom Inglot and Marcus Daniell won their match and are now into the quarter-finals. Well done.

Just found out about Chan and Murray losing in straight sets. If Hingis hadn't retired, I expect they would have won it.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think Jamie is playing well - Chan was certainly the stronger player in their last match.

JAMES4578
22-01-2018, 10:27
Certainly disappointing for Jamie/Chan-looked like they'd turned 1st around but weren't able to capitalise and couldn't break through in 2nd. Wasn't too confident after last match though with Jamie not really in the best of form. May have done better with Hingis but would've still been challenging to repeat earlier success. Great for Dom/Marcus, well done!

Watching Jamie he's obviously not on form at the moment which makes me sad. Hope he recovers for the Davis Cup.

Dom Inglot has a mention in The Times today, which is nice.

“In addition to Kyle Edmund’s exploits at the Australian Open, there will be another quarter-final appearance for British tennis fans to celebrate; Dominic Inglot, the 31-year-old from Chiswick, in the men’s doubles.

Inglot and Marcus Daniell, from New Zealand, reached the last eight with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Hans Podlipnik-Castillo, from Chile, and Andrei Vasilevski, from Belarus. It is the first time that Inglot has reached this stage of a grand-slam since the 2015 US Open.

The win should bring a sense of satisfaction for Inglot, who is No 54 in the doubles world rankings. He has failed to hold down a regular partner in the doubles circuit, playing with 19 players in the past two seasons.

But not the second.

Pity, but at least Dom got to the quarters and went out fighting, not bad for a scratch pair

Teresa

Woke up for this. Very disappointing for them, but it was always going to be a tough ask. Taking it to 3 sets was good.

Playing in Rio this coming week. There was a picture of Jamie in Rio a couple of days ago on Facebook.
