North Korea has cancelled one of the key joint cooperation projects with South Korea planned for the winter Olympics. Yesterday, North Korea sent a message saying it won't hold a joint cultural event at Diamond Mountain on the 4th of next month.

Jamaica will have an Olympic skeleton slider for the first time. Anthony Watson was born in America but has a Jamaican father. He tried out for the American bobsleigh team before switching to skeleton in 2016.

I feel sorry for the women taking part in the snowboard slopestyle - who will have been training for years to compete. It was so windy and gusty it should have been cancelled. Not only that because of the quaifying being cancelled on an earlier day they only got a total of 2 runs.

It did seem strange that they postponed the ladies' ski event but not the snowboarding. They were lucky that there weren't any major injuries.

Yes it was strange. Apparently the problem was that it was very gusty making the wind very uneven, so one minute they were being slowed up before a jump and another they were being sped up by the wind and overshooting. As well as safety issues, the slopestyle is a popular event to watch, so people want to watch them performing well and the best doing extra runs.

Aw poor Elise. I could have cried with her during her interview. She is understandably heartbroken. She could have lost her fingers though which would have been worse. She had to remove her hand quickly to avoid the skates of van Kerkhof (I think) which of course put her off balance. So unfortunate.

I genuinely don’t understand this. She is obviously very fast, but doesn’t seem to actually be able to apply the rules or have the right technique. That’s now two Olympics where she has been disqualified from every event she has entered. Is it time for her to give up?

I have decided short track skating is the most ridiculous sport. It's like coming out in the first round of a grand slam, serving a double fault and that's it you're out.

I'm also wondering similar re rules and technique. I really don't know enough about it all or the history of when she won the World Champs.
But just now she says she wants to come back for the next Olympics in Beijing. :coaster: those Murraycoasters look like the nursery slopes!

She was disqualified in every event in Sochi but not in Korea. In her first event in Korea she was taken out and crashed but came 4th - 1 place away from a medal. In her second event she crashed. Elise is triple world champion which is harder to do than the Olympics, so why would she give up?

She does not understand herself why she was disqualifed and neither do others at the moment. The referee was not happy about her skating apparently after she fell and that may have something to do with it -to stop her racing injured in the next round.

Christie judged to have double infringement, very disappointing ended this way but expectations weren't high and would've been difficult to be near best. Think it's a bit harsh to say Elisie should just quit when she's a triple World Champion (unfair even if she wasn't ), though obviously Olympics have been frustrating. Whilst some misfortunate think tactics at times questionable.

She got disqualified for interfering with the Hungarian and Polish women.

But the Hungarian interfered with her according to the commentators.

Apparently she got 2 penalties and 2 penalties add up to a disqualification.

It makes you wonder if they are judging these things differently at the Olympics to other events such as the World Championships.

Oh good grief. How many of Elise's woes are bad luck and how many bad judgement. It must be a difficult call because it's a full on sport and she can't be a shrinking violet out there, but perhaps her utter desperation for Olympic success clouds her judgement a bit. Such a shame for her - these games were meant to redeem the previous ones and have instead heaped on more disappointment. Hope she can do a Katherine Granger and finally come good in 4 years time.

Elise obviously has the technique or else she wouldn't be able to win World Championship races. She's just been very unlucky, but a measure of her talent is that she's way ahead of the other British ladies racing. after the trip/fall at the start of today's race it would have been so easy for her to say 'sod it, I'm not risking further injury' but to her credit she got up and gave it another go. I can't say whether the penalty was right or wrong as I'm no expert, but to the untrained eye she didn't seem to do anything different to what goes on in any other race.

Well Team USA deserved the gold imho - they were much more offensive and had more energy esp. in overtime. I'm fine with silver. Can't win 'em all! In Sochi we won gold in both men and women's curling and hockey - this time I don't think we'll get any gold. But, it's good to spread the wealth.
