Both very strong events - will be interesting to see who comes to the top in both. Rafa and Andy keeping their powder dry for Paris it would seem.

I take it Andy is not playing then. Maybe good for him to have a rest.

I have just realised there is still a week to go - so plenty of time for Andy to have a rest if he does play.

Tbh would prefer Andy to be at his best in Paris and London. However, he will know himself if he's fine to play either Valencia or Basel.

@darren_cahill (http://twitter.com/#!/darren_cahill) do you think Andy will be playing Basle or Valencia or neither?

So he has .....

He may have been referring to Andy Roddick - who is on the Entry List (see my post ^^^)

This was Cahill's 2nd tweet:

Just found Liz's tweet asking ...
lizcurran (http://twitter.com/#!/lizcurran) Liz Curran:
@darren_cahill (http://twitter.com/#!/darren_cahill) @xenon21 (http://twitter.com/#!/xenon21) oh thanks Darren. I'm pleased about that. Is he defending his doubles title w Jamie too or just singles?

This could be interesting ... normally the 'scoop' on something like this would be the prerogative of the Tournament Director by announcing a Wild Card and to date Valencia haven't done that.

Good to see James Ward giving Valencia qualifying a shot. Plays world No.83 Pere Riba, of Spain, tomorrow. Has to win two matches to qualify

Linda

I'm certain Rafa won't be playing Valencia. But most of the Spanish and French players are, plus Dogopolov. All the players I like to watch, except Andy. In Basle, apart from Andy, it's all the players I'm not very interested in.

There were supposed streams but all of them were showing some kind of sailing competition instead. I have a feeling that the Spanish tv coverage cut off after the previous match had ended. Was so disappointing.

Milos was pants today. Cilic was nowhere near his best, second serves all over the place, 0-30 down in several games yet STILL Milos couldn't break and lost 4-6 4-6. Frustrating to say the least.

Vashy vs Ferru up next.

02-11-2011, 15:36
Ok then, maybe. Time will tell. He's got a decent all-round game - better than Milos, I'll say that.

Ferru wins 6-3 6-3. At least Vashy wasn't bagelled. I think he played some points very well, just needs more consistency.

Linda
05-11-2011, 20:08
After coming back from 0-3, Monaco is now about to serve for the first set! I wonder if Northern Lights is watching it?

. . . and Pico takes the set 7-5. After a strong start, Ferru has completely gone off the boil.

. . . Ferru storms to another 3-0 lead at the start of the 2nd - can he hold onto it this time?

. . . Ferru takes the second set 6-1 so we're into a decider!

. . . Pico getting his lower back massaged - looks to be in pain

. . . Ferru started off well in the third but after a disputed line call he has completely fallen apart. Pico leads 5-2.

. . . And Monaco wins 7-5, 1-6, 6-3

NorthernLights
05-11-2011, 21:34

Nice to see Pico doing well again, it's been a long time since he did (though Ferru is one of my favourites so I didn't really mind who won). I think I put Pico in my Top 8 prediction so I was way out there - perhaps he'll make it next year!

Hoo! I think Granollers will have the Spanish crowd behind him in the Final but I wish Pico well.

More especially I hope he takes it to 3 sets so's Marcel is knackered ahead of Paris. Andy has a 3-0 H2H v Chardy and 2-0 v Gran so I suppose it doesn't matter who he plays but a bushed opponent in R2 might be useful.

Blimey - they're still playing in Valencia!
Bryans v Melo/Soares and it stayed on serve so they're into a tie-break for the first set.
The Americans are 5-2 up but t'others about to serve.
