View Full Version : New tournaments Glasgow and Loughborough - tickets, who is going etc
Oh yes please Andy. If it was in the 1st week of the French I could squeeze in a trip to Loughborough before I go on holiday
I have just checked the trains. I could just about do it in a day. Perhaps if this does come to pass, it could be the forum meet up for this year, given the imminent demise of DC?

That would be great wouldn't it. Would be hard to know which days Andy might play though. If they are going to do it I expect they'll have to get a move on with organising/announcing it
I would be interested in going.
Erm guess where we do most of our student accommodation work?
Rubs hands together.

Had a nosey at the website for Loughborough Tennis Centre - seating will be very restricted. I guess they will put in some temporary seating but even so I think the capacity will be quite restricted. Might just be offered to BTMs
If we got tickets for it, do you think we should wear those 'hands off our DC' t-shirts?
I received an email, yesterday, from the LTA. I told them, we're very interested in getting tickets if it went ahead. Their reply was they're still in talks with the ATP about it and are hoping to add more tournaments to the calendar.
 I haven't had an email from the LTA and I'm a member.

Hi Stell, could you forward the email you received to me please at andymurrayfanforum.com
I'd be the main contact if there was any option on getting tickets for AMFF so need to know what was said.
Thank you.
Maybe they just replied to one she sent?

Or any old routine one. The Wimbledon ballot opt in email arrived with me yesterday marked LTA British Tennis - so presumably she replied to that and got the standard don't bother us reply.
Oh yes - I did get the opt in one - sorry, I forgot that.
If Sally got the tickets for us, I wouldn't be able to do the Glasgow one. But, I can do the Loughborough one from the 20th May.

I play at scotstoun & have been a few tourneys there over the years...if they have the same stands as they normally do then im pretty sure the LTA wont be sending sally or any other fan groups any block tickets as AMFF alone would pretty much fill it

Going to keep an eye on the LTA site and keep the Glasgow and Loughborough hotel bookings for now. The LTA announcement made no mention of spectator arrangements at all
I was hoping Sally would be ordering the tickets for us, like she does with the Davis Cup ones.
How many seats do you think we'd get offered for such a small venue? Do we even know what the capacity is?

It's not usual practice for LTA to offer tournament tickets to fan groups.
True Westie, but we weren't members of the LTA before. Still think you're right though.

Looks like about 500 capacity from the picture, be wonderful if they could give DC fans the option but i'm guessing that would cause an uproar locally

It isn't a Davis Cup event so there's no reason for fan groups to receive any kind of 'special' treatment; just as there never has been at any other ATP/WTA/ITF tournament. I'm guessing that any tickets will go on sale in the usual way via the LTA website on a "first come/first served" basis and, given the limited seating capacity, I think there'd be a limit on tickets per person buying.
I don't know if anyone else has contacted the LTA about the tickets, as I did. I've received a reply from Stephen Ankers, the British Tennis Services Senior Advisor. He's told me, the tickets will be available, for both events, nearer the time and they'll also say how to buy them. They would like British Tennis Members and members of the general public to buy them. We have to keep an eye on the LTA's social media channels and website.

I've been reading about these tournaments. Wouldnt be able to go to the Scotland one as its too far away but Loughborough is deffo an option for myself and my brother.
Loughborough is about 60 miles from me so would definitely look at going if I can get tickets.

Just read this article dated 29 March, now thinking that perhaps he won’t play Loughborough after all. So, I think I might not try for tickets next Wed unless Andy announces his participation. Am undecided. What do other members think?

I've decided not to bother with either of the Challengers - the tickets go on sale while I'm stuck at a conference (ironically at the SECC in Glasgow) so won't be able to be online when they go on sale. Loughborough is a little too near to me going on holiday the following weekend so all in all decided it's too tricky for me
I was wondering about going as well, until I got told, by a well known hotel website, that if I went for the nine days then I would be able to book a hotel for free for the Davis Cup play off or the first round of the Davis Cup. I just wish there is going to be a first round Davis Cup tie.

Thanks Stell. That link took me to Glasgow challenger which is too far for me. I was poised to buy Loughborough at 11.00 am, but The Ticket Factory site was very very difficult to use. I got Monday in my basket and couldn’t get back to select Tuesday etc. So, had to complete purchase for Monday, meanwhile Tennisfan, on speakerphone, was trying and got Tuesday for me. Our other sister, who is not a fan of tennis, tried to get me a ticket for Wed but was having problems. I went back on site and started process from the beginning and got a Wed ticket. Quite a rigmarole!

No
I clicked on Silverdee's contribution. I then clicked on 'buy online' and had to enter my BTM number. I then clicked on 'get tickets' and then the Adult (British Tennis Member). Then, I clicked on 'add to basket' and then clicked on 'continue'. I then clicked on 'login', which was at the top of my laptop, and I was taken back to the beginning. I then had to click on 'sign in with Facebook' and I then had to pay for them. I was able to purchase another four tickets, which means I'll be there from Sunday until the following Sunday.

Got a ticket for the Saturday in Glasgow :)
I've booked to go to Loughborough on the Saturday (26th may) with GillyD. Can't go in the week as already have loads of time booked off work but even if there's no Andy it will still be a fun day out and not too far for us. Plus tickets are cheap as chips ;)

Gong to the Glasgow one on finals day. Have applied to volunteer the other weekend days. If not doing that I may get a Saturday ticket too,
I'm still hoping he'll play in Loughborough, as I can't get to the Glasgow one.
I wasn't convinced that Andy would play Glasgow so I booked a ticket for this Saturday, hoping to see young Aiden in Qualies. Now that he has been given a wild card into the main draw I'll probably try for another ticket for the beginning of next week, but wait until the draw is announced.

Me too
The LTA might have been a bit apprehensive having a new tournament with short notice, but I think it did work well. From the Sunday until the Friday, there weren't many people there. I made new friends with the security people, the traffic warden and the volunteers. Though, I had to park in car park nine, I found most of the time it to be full up. I usually had to drive around for up to twenty minutes, hoping someone would drive off. The traffic warden told me, if anyone didn't display a ticket then they would be given a warning if it was a first offence. Anymore, then it would be another warning and a small fine. Seat wise: though we were all supposed to sit in the seats that we were given, I was told that we could sit anywhere I liked. When I was in Stand B, I would sit at the back and look over at Court One (if a match was going on and the match had finished on Centre Court). The toilets were outside in a portacabin, which reminded me of the Bolton Arena. There was usually a queue for us women. It was enjoyable and one of the volunteers told me that he hoped it would be back next year, but maybe with a bit more notice and bigger names.
