This will be moved to Tour Tennis forum if Andy withdraws. #fingerscrossed he will be playing.
As Andy's name is still on the list, I'm still hoping for him to be there. I looked at the live rankings, earlier, and he's gone up two places to 155. He might be a bit encouraged that Nadal announced, last night, that he won't be there.

I can't imagine rafa withdrawing will make the slightest bit of difference to Andy's decision on wether to play or not
Even with Raffa’s withdrawal the draw is looks good. I’m surprised djoko is playing as he doesn’t usually do a tournie as a Wimbledon warm up. He was still rusty in the French though so I think it will do him good to get more matches under his belt.

Unfortunately don’t do Facebook, can anyone send me a picture please? Thanks. So hoping to see him in the flesh Mon or Tues!
I think Rafa makes his opponents play more, like having to run about more. Andy's opponents, in the past, usually have had to hit the ball more. I would like to see Andy have a good match without the hip playing up again.

it seemed very gentle. there was no obvious limp that I could see which is different from when I saw him playing Roger in the Glasgow charity thing. However it seems that this practising is a lot different from any sort of match. Fingers crossed. Really hoping to see him back playing.
So far so good but Andy didn't run for anything so if he wasn't practising that I wouldn't have thought that he was ready for a full blown match of the calibre he'll face at Queens. According to BBC Sport, he's supposed to be having a practice with Cam this afternoon so hopefully that will be a bit more informative, but we may not see it of course.

Dan is still in Nottingham - James lost today.
Delpo has withdrawn from queens - he said he has had medical advice that he should rest and he’s sad not to be playing.
Dan evo and Jay Clarke have been given wild cards into the main draw

Andy will only play when, and only when, he is sure the hip will not play up again. He has promised us he will only be back when 100% fit. Whenever that will be is good enough for me.

So he has indeed only been back practising for 2 weeks. I wonder what makes him feel he can return to professional tennis given that he is only just returning to play?
Returning physically fit but not match fit is different to not being physically fit and still playing. I hope he just needs practice and isn't pushing his body too soon.

For what it's worth, Andy has a 5-0 H2H record against Kyrgios; the last meeting being a straight sets victory at Wimbledon 2016. To be honest, though, I'm not expecting a victory here - it will be great just to see the great man back on court.
I would have picked Andy to win, as Kyrgios has been out with injury too. But with Kyrgios playing well this week in Stuttgart and a tight match with Federer I am expecting him to win.

That's just a Wimbledon tradition.
WooHoo - can’t wait to see Andy again! Tennis just hasn’t been the same without him, but thank goodness for Kyle and Cameron - and great to see Dan back on a winning streak too!
I suspect that Lopez isn’t playing singles today because he is playing doubles. I think he will play tomorrow, raonic will surely be on tomorrow as he was in a final yesterday. Djoko isn’t on the order for today so maybe he will also play tomorrow. Kyle too. Seems like a lot of singles 1st rounds held over for tomorrow. Not 50/50 maybe some will happen Wednesday. Or maybe the oop tomorrow will be djoko, Murray, Goff and Kyle. That would be a day! Mainly can’t waih to welcome Andy back on court though. They did say so many great matches would be tough to schedule to give the higherat numbers a chance to see them. But like they said it’s a good problem to have! Excited :)
I seem to recall that the 8 seeds don't play till Wed. As Lopez is playing Goffin who is seeded he probably won't play till Wed.
I wasn’t sure, I didn’t go last year and don’t remember what happened in 2016/2015 the last times I went. But it said on the event guide that Wednesday would be round 2 matches. As no one has I bye I just assumed that meant all round ones would be Monday/tueaday. Wait and see I guess :) link to the event guide

Yeah this is what I think plus it matches with the web info. With so many round one singles for tomorrow I wonder who will go on centre. I think Murray, djoko and Dimi and maybe Edmund with goff and milos matches on other court. I know Edmund is ranked lower that goff but with him being the current British number one surely he’d be on centre. It will be great regardless.

Actually I thought he was pretty well behaved against Andy. He is who he is and that sort of player has always been exciting -and at times infuriating - to watch. We've had a few over the years and there are precious few of them..
As for the fuss on TV over the show- boat shot between his legs.....well, Andy did the same thing right up against the net 5 years ago against Tsonga and was declared a hero

JAMES4578
22-06-2018, 20:00
Whilst feel Lopez should've probably taken it to a decider all credit to Nick and certainly inspired (has issues and mood swings but certainly is a draw) , the good run also puts Andy in a good light. Djokovic had a slow start but 2nd with Mannarino was a procession, looking fairly impressive but no big tests this far. Glad Chardy went through but not sure if he'll be able to trouble the Serb.

It wasn't Nick's shot choices that annoyed me against Andy it was what Andy had gone through to be on court and then others don't try their best. Not getting into the Nick debate though, we all act in ways that seem silly when we grow up, or at least I know I did!
Josephine
22-06-2018, 23:30
I remember that. He & John Lloyd couldn’t decide whether they approved or not. They seemed very concerned about how Tsonga felt.
They certainly made more of a fuss about than they did with Kyrgios! But I agree with banskogirl - it was the impression he gave of tanking because it wasn't as easy as he thought it was going to be - a bit disrespectful.
RosieBear
23-06-2018, 07:19
Rather than tanking I feel Nick wanted to extend the match against Andy. Andy was absolutely incredible given the context and I'm not taking anything away from his hugely impressive return, but he has been out 11 months and really wants/needs time on court - Nick seemed to helped with that by being more lax in the first set. As Nick said in the interview afterward, he doesn't count it as a win. Leaving aside the broader debate re Nick's behavior, I do think he has genuine affection and respect for Andy, so in the context of their match I think he was trying to help rather than tank/be disrespectful. Of course we'll all view it differently, this is just my take.
Pretty much my take too Anna. In an earlier interview Nick did say he wasn't going to make it easier for Andy and I think Andy got the test he really needed. Must have worked cos hey he'll be in Eastbourne! Have a great day there Anna!
Josephine

I think it is just as disrespectful to go easy on an opponent out of some sort of sympathy. And the implication of that is that Andy did not really deserve to win the first set!! I saw it differently. That Kyrgios was taken aback that Andy was playing so well and Andy's excellent slice meant he could not just bash the ball. He was frustrated at missing his first serve and kept trying to hit huge second serves -mainly unsuccessfully - when that failed he acted as though he was not trying to protect himself. His first serve has improved in subsequent matches with a large number of aces - he has continued with the huge 2nd serves - but they are coming off more often now.
Andy clearly got tired by 3rd set and could hardly get a first serve in. So was done -but it would not have been impossible for him to have won the match in 2. And that would have been humiliating for Kyrgios.
PS - I am not trying to say Kyrgios is a bad person.

So Cilic V Nole hopefully should be an interesting match.

My mum isnt keen on Nick but as I said to her Andy is a pretty good judge of character and the fact he has time for Nick off court and has defended him I feel means something about Nicks character off court even if at times he is odd on court. But he is watchable for sure.

Djokovic wasn't always a happy camper but won the important points to get win over Chardy in straights ,Jeremy couldn't quite extend him enough. Cilic was pretty strong throughout in edging out Kygrios in 2 breakers, however Nick was a bit disappointing today. Hopefully both will play well in final.

Just seen a couple of things on twitter that Kyrgios was doing during the match - you won't have spotted them just watching match.
Not so nice really.
I thought I heard something said during the match about Nick giving to a charity for every ace he served. Unfortunately, I didn't hear it all as I was doing half a dozen things at once getting ready for my trip. :barmy:

It is the organisers at Queens who are giving £50 for very ace scored this week to Great Ormond Street Hosp. Nick has certainly played his part this week in that department!

Looking forward to going with Jackie this p.m. but not a fan of Cilic or Djokovic. Doubles will be better, just hope it doesn't start too late!

Thoroughly enjoyed watching the SFs and Jamie yesterday afternoon. I was never a great fan of Novak, particularly when he was beating Andy too frequently, but I am pleased to see he seems to be on his way back. I think tennis has missed him & we definitely need more players to challenge Roger & Rafa.
Enjoy Your day, Carole & Jackie :grass::tennis::grass2:

Don't care for Colic but then again don't want Djokovic to win. In garden, waiting for doubles.

Thought it was fairly enjoyable first set but Cilic couldn't take chances (0/6 on bp's) and not having his best serving performance, even if more pressure on return today. Mind you on first bp early on Nole's defence was incredible. Hoping Marian can take it to a decider but not that confident with him now.

Great fighback from Cilic and takes 6 consecutive points to win breaker, could be interesting final set! Djokovic though did tighten up when he was seemingly close to victory.

Well done Cilic for toughing out the TB. Djokovic bottled that - the ball bouncing before the serve was chronic - made Rafa look like Speedy Gonzalez. Still trying to like Djoko more and failing abysmally
Hmm would normally not really support either player! Tending towards Cilic on this one.
Ball-bouncing from both is ridiculous.

Same here - at least we won't get the annoying celebration from Djokovic if Cilic wins. Got the feeling Cilic indulged in some extensive ball bouncing in the 2nd set TB just to make a point after Djokovic's endless bouncing

Well done Cilic. Played really well and saves us from having to witness the Djokovic boob-thrust ;)
Didn’t want either of them to win. I dislike both of them. On to the interesting match - the Doubles.

A really gutsy win for Cilic and it was an entertaining final if not a classic, really stepped up in the crunch moments, well done and certainly could well be one of the top faves at Wimbledon! Whilst Djokovic finding better form proved there is still some vulnerability, even if he had tough opponent but should take the positives moving forward.

Like both and enjoyed the final. Wanted Novak to win, but knew it was when ominous when he lost TB from 4-1 - not 100% back to his old self but good to see him getting there and wishing same for Andy. Congrats to Marin on lifting the trophy.
Didn't see the final as I was at my great, great nephew's birthday party ... yes really, and no I'm not 105!:laugh:
Unlike almost everyone it seems (except RB), I like Cilic ... as a person though, his game style isn't really to my taste, but I'm glad he won the title again :)

We were rooting for Cilic as well- esp after he kept worrying about his serve hitting the ball girls.
