Well, Copil did have a good win over Chardy but we all know Jeremy can be a bit erratic at times. Andy has won in 2 on their only meeting and I dare to think that - providing that his energy is holding up after two 3-setters - , he must have a pretty good chance here.
Must say, apart from Isner, Andy is in the weaker half of the draw here....or am I getting ahead of myself ??
Just so excited to see him back

With Andy's performance and Copil's overall record seems a good draw on paper, however does not mean it will be straightforward. Suppose much will depend on how well Andy recovers, considering he's played 6 sets this week thus far. However hopefully goes well, Murray should be eager to progress further.
Has anyone worked out yet what time this match will be in the UK? I make it well past midnight
All the best Andy!! Enjoy the "match tennis" and play well. :shades:
Well, I for one will be very surprised if it's before 2am, especially as the match before Andy's has yet to actually be finalised. I'm planning to set the alarm for 3, although I'll see how things look in a few hours.

Rain delay again!
I will be travelling in the morning so really need to be sensible,:help:, but I know for sure if I happen to waken I will be totally unable to resist the temptation to check my phone. And I know I will waken cos I always do when I know Andy is playing in the wee small hours! Copil, I think, will present a real challenge to Andy. But Andy will do what he has to do and I wish him all the best.
Good luck Andy! Hope for good news in the monring!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Andy won't play tonight due to the rain delay, unless they completely rewrite the schedule. Already an hour behind, and either John Isner or Noah Rubin has 2 matches to play before Andy gets on! When they cancelled the women's match they should have moved everything up.
Very best of luck Andy. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Tend to agree. There are four matches and the first is still knocking up. They may just cut out Isner's second match, or even use another court but I reckon we may see Andy first tomorrow which is great news for those of us who need our sleep
Just got up (03.30) thinking Andy's match may be starting anytime soon but doesn't seem likely. Do I go back to bed and do I do my regular early morning crossword puzzle somewhat earlier than usual??
Awake now (I think). Managed to catch the start of the match - now 2 - 1. Go Andy
Following on live score. Andy doesn't seem to be getting a look at Copil's serve while struggling to hold his own.
Andy still managing to hold 5-4
Tie break time - c'mon, Andy!
First set to Copil in tb:crying:
Rats. He was ahead when I last looked. Looks like it’s catching up with him.
Rats! What happened there - Andy was 5-1 up!
Finally - Andy breaks serve:)
He breaks at the start of the second. 0:1 to AM
Lost count of the droppers from Copil - well into the teens I'm sure
Rushing for a plane now - hoping for good news when I get home.
4 hours sleep later, and I'm up now...
It's a struggle, but Andy is still holding on to his break, 4-2*.

Second set to Andy - 6-3 :yahoo::yahoo:
2 set points, second serve for Copil...
And it's 1 set all! 6-3.
Brilliant! Just woke up in time to see Andy take set 2! Couldn"t believe they were still playing at nearly 2am local time! What a ridiculous time to have to play a match! An almost empty echoing stadium with a few hardy souls watching on. Anyway good for Andy thus far. Still good match practice for him.
Big service game first up in the decider... Andy holds to 30.
1:0 to AM - I had forgotten just how tired it makes me when he is playing on different time zones. I am out of practice.

Chance here.......curses
BP! Copil going to the drop shot too often.
Second serve...
Saved.
Another BP comes and goes...
Thought he had him there. Tough nut.
Andy picks the wrong time to come in, and it's 0-30.

Another chance went begging
Andy has another BP from 40-0 down...
Saved. Copil really going for it on second serve.
Another BP. This time Andy!
Can our man hold now 4:3? I feel a trip into the garden coming on.....
A poor forehand at 15-0, and suddenly it's 15-30, but Andy gets it back to 30 all...
Untidy, but he gets away with it. Duece.
Andy suddenly the one looking tired, and it's another BP.
Two days ago I'd never heard of this guy!
I think AM is knackered now - not surprisingly.
Latest ever finish at Washington, and there's a way to go yet...
Easy hold. Worrying signs...
Easy hold. Worrying signs...
Worrying signs? Ah you were talking about Copil.
That's more like it! Andy holds to love, and Copil has to serve to stay in it.
Latest ever finish at Washington, and there's a way to go yet...
Ridiculous!
Followed by a vintage down the line....
Tie break at worst, able to go for it here then...
Come on AM the dog wants her walk
Tie break it is. I am not optimistic. I think AM is running out of puff.
He's at his most dangerous when folk say that! Fingers crossed!
4:3 to AM. AM with two serves
Andy wins - phew - :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::cheer::cheer::cheer:
He is now quite emotional

Exhausted, must be hurting physically and he still signs every ball and bit of paper on his way out. That’s our man.

I fell asleep for most of the first set, woke up at the start of the tie break. From what I heard and saw when I was half awake, it seemed like Copil burnt himself out a bit in the first set. Fantastic match, definitely better than the Edmund match. Well played Andy.
Such emotion from Andy for a win that he worked so hard for, this guy needs to be treasured, there will never be another like him. Thanks for the win Andy!!
What an incredible win. As I mop up my tears too it's easy to see the emotional investment Andy put into this match. I think this has been one of the most emotional yet and glad Andy was on the right side of it. I always suspected that Copil was going to be a tricky customer but I was also confident Andy would handle it. He played the big points so well producing the serve when most needed. What a great comeback. I could hear someone in the crowd saying "Andy is back". Must dash now...setting off on my travels for a few days. Great send off!! :bravo::bravo:

Yes! De Minaur in the quarters, last up tomorrow night.
Andy really emotional.
Whilst 'tomorrow' would seem logical it'll actually be tonight at roughly 9.30pm US time. Would anyone be surprised if Andy withdrew?
Ridiculous scheduling even allowing for weather issues. I doubt Andy got to bed before 5am local time.

Can't believe they played. What is the point of playing in front on virtually no audience.
Andy will be exhausted.
Crazy scheduling. Is it all about tv rights? Can't imagine this happening in any other sport.

Hope Andy does withdraw and then have a couple of days rest before Toronto. he's proved his fitness but he doesn't want to damage himself.
well, to be prosaic, the tournament organisers saw the rain wipe out so much play early on that i think they would have jumped at the chance to get the event back on schedule, which they have achieved. and if Andy gets a decent sleep till 2pm then he should be good to go tonight. and he has a decent chance of getting at least one more win, and racing up the rankings. it may look hard, but Andy's a pro, and he's getting back into the swing of playing every day - go Andy!
It was to get the tournament back on schedule. I'd rather have Andy play at stupid o'clock and then again tonight, rather than 2 games today.
He seems to have missed the 400’s and leaped over them into the 300’s.
Now 374 in Live Rankings, and British No 8

Well done Andy

Had to leave when it was 4-2 in the 3rd, then heard on the radio that it was 5 all. Got back in the car to hear that Andy was crying at the win -- -- and there I was at the traffic lights crying too.
So pleased for him, so proud of him. What a player, what a worker, what a man
Is it wrong for it to feel so good to see Andy cry.

What another tense match and another battle for Andy. Was in tears at the end seeing him sob. He looked so exhausted. News coming through that he may not play quarters as needs to recover. It it's true I think it could be right decision. So proud of his effort and commitment this week. Well done CHAMP!

Too many matches scheduled. Even without the rain schedule runs too late.
Well done to Andy - but the last thing he needs is to be exhausted and it will be a shame if he has to withdraw.
Well done Andy What a tremendous performance from you to get the win ! :shades:
It obviously meant a great deal to you. It's great to see a man showing his emotions sometimes
Love and hugs!

can't argue with a decision to withdraw, he's got nothing to gain by putting even more stress an his (only partially recovered) body. I've no doubt he would beat De Minaur under normal circumstances but it's too much to risk at this stage. He has to take the long term view.

woke up and couldn't believe they were still playing. Watched all the match by running video back on Tennistv. Have only just watched the tiebreak as had to go out. wow, I hope he doesn't pull out now due to these stupid timings.
How emotional at the end. Such an amazing player. :worship: I can't put into words all the feelings.... I'm sure many of you have articulated much better above (although yet to read them). He's back. :grouphug:
I watched from the tie break in the first set with a break in the middle .... got to work early and watched the end on my phone at my desk before official work time. All that emotion coming out from the last year. So happy he is back and look what it means to him. I was trying not to sob with him at my desk!
Absolutely ridiculous starting a match so late though. I remember Lleyton once playing a match at the AO that didn't finish until about 4.30am local time. He was hot in his next round and lost easily. I think tournaments should be allowed to start matches after 10pm. It is SUCH a disadvantage to whoever wins and then has to play the same day having had to fit in recovery and sleep as well
Josephine

Andy will have to achieve his aim of being more aggressive as simply he won't survive at the top long term now with battling wins based more on defence.
Not that I don't admire him tremendously for that - just thinking of his longevity.

Me too - shame to miss it but assumed it was over!
Got stuck in Glasgow overnight, because of mist on Islay, and plane delayed again this morning. Phone and tablet out of battery, so just got home to see the result.:dance::dance: Yay, Andy - so proud of you! Loved reading all your posts - thank you - and now looking forward to watching my recording. Whatever he decides about the next round, this has been a great tournament for Andy. Our boy is back, folks! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
....... and Andy has found some shorts that fit!
I think Andy's walking better too.
I think Andy's walking better too.
Agree,I thought his movement throughout the match was very good!
Wow!!! Andy's back!!!! What a match and a test of endurance so early in his comeback. Not helped by the lateness of the match.
I do agree, he seemed to move a lot better, but I wonder how his body is feeling today. I will respect whatever decision he makes re continuing in the tournament. He needs to listen to his body and do what he needs to do.
That sobbing at the end, the gut wrenching from the stomach type of sob. Here I am, in the same time zone and watching that at 3am in the morning!!! Late nights are usually other time zones, ha!!ha!!
I love you & I'm so proud of you Andy.

I do wonder why they start so late in the day. Its probably a media controlled thing but there must be more people watching at 12 noon than at 3am - although the late night hawks have paid for the seats whatever.
But it is wrong and needs to be looked at
Maybe they should "get a roof"

Caught up with the replay. What to say about Andy's emotions at the end? We can only begin to imagine the frustration, worry and doubt he must have felt in the last year - and the relief all came pouring out in those gut-wrenching sobs. I was sobbing along with you Andy. You really are back :knight:
