I think Gareth Southgate will win the Coach of the Year. Geraint Thomas must be one of the favourites to win it, at the moment.

She certainly should! Adam Peaty is bound to be there too.

I've got Geriant Thomas, Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Peaty on my shortlist. I know the BBC will probably include Harry Kane on their shortlist.

Cornucpia Events are offering eye watering prices for their tickets to this year's Sports Personality, which they're claiming is on the 16th December at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. I found this a bit strange, as the BBC are still yet to announce a venue.

Certainly has a good case, also Justin Rose as No. 1 golfer

Honestly though, if it is, it shouldn't be for this year as for apart from the odd innings, he has been generally ordinary. A Lifetime Achievement Award, on the other hand, would be well deserved IMO.

The Genting Arena in Birmingham has been chosen as the venue for the 16th December. The BBC have gone with them revealing the nominations on the night. Also, there will be two new awards: Greatest Sporting Moment of the Year and World Sport Star of the Year.

That could be the Ryder Cup win and Francesco Molinari

I've received an email from the BBC saying the tickets go on sale at 9am next Friday. Prices will start at £45 and will include a fee and 80p facility fee plus a £2.55 fulfillment fee per transaction. According to them, the Genting Arena will be changing its name to Resorts World Arena.

Whilst I am happy to see Jack's name on the list, it's rubbish that Emma's isn't. She's done the same at the same age, only she hasn't got a famous dad.

I did think that, but there are other girls on the list, so thought it was just me being over sensative.

1. Netball Ladies, 2, Alistair Cook, 3, Tiger Woods, 4 England Football, 5 Tyson Fury.
Only the British could think that winning a World Cup Quarter Final is the sporting moment of the year !
Tyson Fury nominated for standing up. !!

You say British, I say English... Apart from Tiger it's a very Anglocentric list.

How about the GB Ice Hockey team qualifying for Pool A (the top division) for the first time.

I'd go for Ayr United being top of the league, but I'm not totally surprised that it isn't on the list.

I wouldn't bother opening an account with Ladbrokes just yet. However, this gets my vote

BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/45712150) - BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2018: Nominees to be revealed live on the night

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2018 contenders will be revealed on the night of the show for the first time.

Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan will present the show - in its 65th year - live from Birmingham's Genting Arena on Sunday, 16 December.
...
"Announcing the much-anticipated shortlist at the start of the show will add even another layer of excitement to what is set to be a thrilling night for everyone."
...
Fewer names will be in the running for the main award and, as always, the public will decide who is set to emulate 2017 winner Sir Mo Farah (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/42387099) and walk away with the trophy.

Harry Kane
Dina Asher-Smith
Jimmy Anderson

Speculation a while ago that there would be far fewer nominees, not sure it's great having only 6 though.

I would like more too. However it is good that there is only one nominee for a sport. It dilutes the votes when there are 2.

I had it on the TV, while Inverdale droned on on radio five live. He seemed to be very concerned about Andy and if he would get over the operation and win more Grand Slams. Steve Bounce reckoned next year's winner would be the winner of the Fury vs Joshua fight. The loser would be the runner up.

JAMES4578

If this year anything to go by there will likely only be one nominee per sport. Congratualtions Geraint Thomas, Billie Jean king and all the winners :clap: Seems the BBC will now not be revealing the voting numbers, so much for transparency https://www.prolificnorth.co.uk/news/broadcasting/2018/12/bbc-keeps-voting-numbers-secret-spoty
