Went to the ladies gymnastics at hydro on Thursday. Was fab!
Well done to Ethan Hayter of Herne Hill cycling club who won the omnium gold medal, yesterday. My grandparents (my mum's parents) used to live quite near Herne Hill, when they were alive.

Certainly doing well-ahead on number medals-now 66 , though Russia still top table with more Gold. https://www.europeanchampionships.com/results/en/all-sports/medal-standings.htm Some of the recent highlights were Matthew Hudson smith in 400m, the Gold/Silver in BMX with Evans/Whyte (even if not fav event), silvers in Gymnastics Team and 2nd finishes for Katarina Johnson Thomson and Laugher/Mears. Now great Gold/Silver for grace Reid/Alicia Blagg in 3m springboard, Well done! Fab that Dina Asher Smith got sprint double and controlled the 200, no gold in 400 relays but still good to get silver and Bronze. KJT gave it her all at end but Thiam had too much of a cushion (Javelin proving decisive). A bit disappointing for Jack/Chris but just edged out by the Russians KuznetsZakarov in the end. Jake Wightman done well to get the Bronze in the 1500 at the end but 17 year old Jakob Ingebrigtsen set the pace and held on for Gold ahead of Marcin Lewandowski and Jakob got double in 5000 edging out brother Henrik, amazing-great stuff!
I hope Laura Muir can win a medal this evening.

Laura should win a medal but really wants the Gold and hopefully can finish on top!
Go Laura!!!!:GBflag::GBflag::GBflag:
My favourite was Meghan Beesley’s Bronze. The look on her face, as she realised she had done enough to get on the Podium was uplifting. She was absolutely delighted with her prize.
I love the unexpected medals.
An amazing win for Dina Asher Smith in the 200m to go with her 100m gold!:GBflag::dance::dance::dance:

Fingers crossed for a third gold in the relay.
Even more amazing from 17 year old Jakob Ingebrigtsen who beat his two brothers to take gold in both the 1500 m and the 5000m - absolutely astonishing!
Can someone else explain to me how gymnast, Rhys McLenaghan, can compete for Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Games yet be representing Ireland in the European Championships? Surely competitors from Northern Ireland should be part of a GB & NI team?
Might be similar to the rugby, where NI players play for Ireland. Does the Irish Gymnastics governing body cover the whole island?
Felt sick for the synchro divers today, just needed to avoid disaster in their last dive to take the gold, but disaster duly struck and they didn't even get a medal.

Dunno, but his coach got made redundant and Sport Ireland have paid for his coaching since then. BBC interviewed him and he probably talked about it then but I wasn't listening.

Thanks, Hawkeye and Cazza. I understand the rugby thing but then they never compete as part of the commonwealth. It just seems a bit odd to me that he's allowed to pick and choose. It probably does come down to money in the end.

Not entirely sure about Gymnastic Governing Body for Northern Ireland, however as McLenaghan been training in Dublin may well be the reason. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/uk_national_sport/16389003.mcclenaghan-targets-european-glory-after-garden-gym-sessions/ Certainly at the Olympics athletes born in NI can choose to represent either GB or Ireland https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-37058920
I think Leon Reid did the same thing. He ran for Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth but ran for Ireland in the Europeans.
Extremely pleased for Dina Asher-Smith and her three gold medals.
I'd love to why the Czech Republic weren't allowed to run in the 4 x 100m relay final for men. I know our men's team couldn't run, in the 4 x 100m relay final in the World Cup in London, because one of our athletes suddenly got injured and the team weren't allowed to have a replacement.
Well done to both our 4x100m teams - amazing result!:dance::dance::GBflag: I've really enjoyed the whole European Championships and I really hope they stick to this format going forward with even more sports joining the party.

Fab Gold for Laura Muir 1500- gldd she got it and whilst went a bit earlier than maybe expected it payed off. Good Laura Wightman held on for the Bronze with Poland's Ennaoui taking the silver, well done! As expected Hassan took 5,000 in some style but great Eliish McGolgan took the silver, almost unbelievable though that Salmenter thought she was on the last lap before the bell and was also edged out by Chan! Marvellous end in the relays with Dina Asher Smith and Zharnel Hughes adding to their tally. Smith most impressive due to the circumstances in the race. Another young winner as 18 year old Swede Armand Duplantis took Gold in Pole Vault ahead of Russian Murgunov and former French Olympic champ Arnaud Lavillenie. Something for German crowd to celebrate as krause defended 3,000 women's Steeplechase.
Anyway GB finished with 74 medals but 2nd to Russia as they had 5 more Gold, though 66 in total. GB did edge out Poland to top the athletics table.

Venues for 2022 expected to be announced in 2019 and may well be joint hosts again https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1068097/exclusive-european-championships-2022-may-also-be-shared-between-two-cities
Timing could be a bit more complex in 2022 as the Commonwealth Games will most likely be in a UK summer.
