aka Duracell Dave or 'the Ferret' ...
;)
He's calling time on his career next year apparently.
@ArashMadani (https://twitter.com/ArashMadani) Aug 6 (https://twitter.com/ArashMadani/status/1026594029008384001)David Ferrer plans on this being his last Rogers Cup. At the age of 36, he plans on playing one last Grand Slam at the US Open, then retiring at home next year after either Madrid or Barcelona. Ferrer told me he is "happy" with his decision and career. "I love tennis," he said.

I was sorry to hear that , David certainly given some great entertainment throughout the years and had some stanima. However suppose not too surprising and has not had best results lately.
I too will be sorry not to see David playing. He certainly made the most of his talents in an age of giants. I've always had a soft spot for him, particularly after he didn't challenge Andy's "out" ball in their epic final at Cincinatti. ;)
I will miss him! But it's the right time for him to retire.
I will miss Daveed, one of the great fighers of the game who made the most of his talent.
Have memories of great matches played by him especially against Andy.

Definitely the right time to retire but given me a lot of pleasure watching him over the last twelve years

Miami final 2013 particularly comes to mind. (Andy won of course.) David will be missed, but one good thing about it is that it gets him a thread all of his own here!!

It was sad to watch David have to retire injured in Auckland - he tried really hard to continue but could not walk even after his calf was strapped up. However, he did win the last point and they had a special ceremony prepared for him at the end.
Well this is a must watch match from my point of view, love this guy not as much as Andy but will be so sad to see him retire......Come On Daveed!!!!
It's a set each & 2-0 to Ferrer in the third .....Come On Daveed!......and no disrespect to RBA!!

Certainly another good win for Ferrer, well done! Though do lke Bautista Agut too. He has Sacha Zverev to face tomorrow, though the 3rd seed has not been in best of form lately.

Daveed was leading 4-1 in the first set but Zverev has recovered his game and taken it 6'4.

Zverev leading 3-0 in the 2nd set ... this may well be the 'retirement' match for David Ferrer.
However, a very fitting one at a great tennis stadium in his home country.
Zverev now 5-1 in the 2nd set with David serving to stay in the match.

Take a bow Duracell Dave ...
:worship:
... he lost to Zverev (4-6, 1-6) but is the winner of so much in his playing career.
Here's an image posted by ATP Tennis TV which is one of the most apt cartoons ever!!!

David started well but once Sacha got going was not really in hunt, not enough in tank today. However David had great career with so many gutsy displays in amazing matches. Whilst a tighter loss may have been more befitting given so much throughout the years and getting huge send off tonight in Madrid. All the best for him in the future!
#Graciias Ferru Always!!!:thumbup::thumbup:........The Quiet Reader!!!!:thumbup::thumbup:
Good luck to Daveed.
Nice tribute

Oh wow! Daveeed's final match and the farewell that followed was a must-watch tonight. Sooo emotional. And his little son: so sweet and so like his dad in that he not seek any attention. He seemed to let what was happening simply float over his head. And all credit to Sascha who, when he won the match, barely flinched and completely handed the floor to David. Gracias Ferru indeed. A great competitor, aka the Everywhere Man.
