Would we expect anything less. Andy out on his feet but still fighting
Nando's tight - double fault.
Two great serves to take it to deuce.

Nando’s tighter than a tight thing
Not yet ..................!
A double fault hands Andy the break point - c'monnnnnn!
You have to hand it to Nando - that was gutsy.

That's it!!! Well played, Verdasco, but well played Andy too - encouraging signs.

Nando played well. Andy was Andy a lot of the time. Hopefully his hip allows him to be nearly there at the AO! Well done Andy. Close!

Great performance from verdasco but he had to be at his best. Real big step for Andy. Savour this win nando you might have to wait a while for another one.

Great to see Andy out there competing again. I can't wait for AO 2019
Andy deserved that final game but hey ho an excellent match for him; he's still got the heart of a lion and if his serving hadn't let him down he would have won. I didn't really want him to go to a 5th set and I want my bed! x

Dramatic final game and Andy gave it everything he had but unfortunately Verdasco found a way to get through and was tough in most of the key moments. Still a lot of credit to Andy who played some great tennis in a terrific contest and his passion was second to none, even if not his A game or quite consistency required. However best Verdasco has played for some time and Muzzah was relatively close in some brutal conditions. Certainly a lot of positives to take even if still disappointing as sure he would've wished to have gone further but being realistic this was not likely to be slam for a deep run. However sure the match fitness will come in time.
A shame, but I think battling Del Potro after that would have been a step too far at this stage. He fought valiantly, but is not quite match fit yet.
Nothing to be too down about. That was a great 3 hours or so entertainment. Some great tennis and it's just great that Andy has now played a couple of best of 5 matches. At times I thought he looked drained, but would he give up.....no chance! The final game proved that. Credit to Nando for acknowledging the fact that Andy is still not 100% fit. And he did take it to Andy. Still a good h2h record...13:2 to Andy! Overall lots of optimism for the months to come. Thanks guys for giving us a great match.:clap:
Always feel sad the morning after an Andy loss but lots of positives to be taken from this match. I'm sure he would have liked to have gone another round but as usual not a wonderful draw for him. Who is saying Verdy didn't speak to his coach during heat break?? Our Andy does not lie!

Reports in the media say that Andy was limping in the match.
I watched until the 3rd set and didn't notice it but the internet picture wasn't great so may have missed it.
What did you all think about his movement?
I thought he was moving much better than previous matches.

I thought he was moving okay until the fourth set and then in the later stages of that set thought his walking looked painful. Mark P pointed out that it would be good to know if it was his body or the heat that was affecting him.
Russell Fuller mentioned the limping this morning on radio five live. He also mentioned that he spoke to Andy, after the match, and Andy really does want to play in Glasgow and will make himself available for the tie, if his team agree with him. Jeff Tarango said, before the match, that if Andy won it then he would put a kilt on and run around the Arthur Ashe stadium and let someone from the BBC film it.

Whilst always sad when Andy goes out of any tournament, I'm not concerned with individual wins and losses. For me, the bigger picture is far more important, and that is looking extremely rosy - Andy is playing incredible tennis for this stage in his comeback. Very confident that the career slam is on

Whilst it was sad to see Andy lose last night, to play that well in his comeback is very encouraging. Hopefully, by the time the Oz Open starts he will be in a position to compete with the very best.
My reactions last night were very mixed, sadness that Andy lost but relief that he wasn't possibly going to cause himself damage by playing a 5th set, pleasure at such an entertaining match and awe at lots of Andy's (and also Nando's) amazing tennis. There was so much to be hopeful about down the line for Andy and I'm sure he will see that too once the disappointment of losing wears off. Wasn't it fantastic to see that will to win once more from our boy!

I thought Andy was definitely limping in that match [he was also struggling with movement against Duckworth] and this really concerned me. The longer that ordeal went on for Andy the more pronounced his struggle with movement became. I was watching the match on Amazon and had a really great picture.

My feelings exactly - so many positives despite the outcome - and so lovely to see him back on court and some of the shot making was phenomenal! Can't wait for Glasgow!

Regarding his movement, I thought Andy seemed to stiffen up between points during the 4th set. His movement during the points still seemed pretty good, just a little tiredness in the speed of his feet later on, but to be expected in that heat. I don't think the 10 min break helped him and I don't think he wanted it either.
I like the fact Kyrgios has weighed in behind Andy regarding Verdasco's coaching during the break - although hardly unexpected given how he's a good mate of Andy's and clearly not one of Fernando's.
I didn't see the whole match, but agree there were lots of positives - I saw some great shots, some of them very reminiscient of the real Andy Murray! It will take a while. Let's be patient.
I thought he did very well and it was an entertaining match to watch. He's always gone through peaks and troughs in a match (the famous Murraycoasters) so the next stage is to get more peaks than troughs!
It seems a shame to me that the memory of such a good match has been sullied by the 'lying' allegations that have followed from both sides.

Well it felt a bit sullied anyway. Need to sort their rules out.
Andy will always stand up for himself and good for him for not being afraid to do so.
No love lost between then anyway. Wasn't it Verdasco who taunted Andy that he would never win DC (as he had) when GB were lingering in outer reaches.

I believe Andy !!

Thought Verdasco would be a banana skin but it was a very close match so not a massive disappointment
I believe Andy !!
I'm not saying I don't believe Andy - of course I do. I just think some things are better left unsaid - at least in public. Andy had already made his feelings known to officials. Just my opinion, folks!
i wasnt meaning to say you didn't believe him Alis , and i kind of agree about it being left unsaid , but thats just not Andy's style
I thought he had a slight limp early on in the match but it didn't seem to affect him at that stage.
It looks as though the old Andy is still there and just have to be patient and allow for his body and him to adapt to competition tennis again.
Haven't read anything about the training controversy and so going to go and find out what thats all about.
