View Full Version : Jan Choinski
All I know about him is he was born in Koblenz, Germany, and now plays for us.
Yesterday, he beat Tom Jomby in his first round match in Cleveland, Ohio, 6 - 2, 2 - 1 (retired). Jan has a bit of a toughie, in the second round, as he plays Dustin Brown.

Who?
This might be interesting :)
He's 22 years old and is ranked at 284 in the live ATP rankings.
As Stell has already said, Jan was born in Germany and having previously played for Germany, now plays for GB. He has a British mother from Southampton and apparently likes clay and hard courts. He is 6'5" tall.
Jan lost, yesterday, in three sets 6 - 7 (5 - 7), 6 - 1, 6 - 7 (1 - 7).
Jan beat Evan Zhu, yesterday, in his first round match in Dallas. He won 6 - 4, 6 - 4 and plays Reilly Opelka in the second round.
Jan beat Jay Clarke in Bergamo, yesterday, in three sets 7- 5, 1 - 6, 6 - 1. He'll now play Roberto Marcora in the quarters.
He lost in straight sets.
He plays Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol in the first round in Pau.
Well done Jan. He won today and so is into the second round.
Jan beat Adam Pavlasek 6-4, 7- 5. He'll now play either Alexander Bublik or Javier Barranco Cosano in the third round.
Jan beat Filip Horansky 6 - 4, 6- 4 in his first round match in Lille. He now plays Yannick Hanfmann in the second round.
He's already beaten Hanfmann! 6-0 6-4. Into the 3rd round.
Choinski is thru to the QF in Lille after a very close 3rd round match. He will play Yannick Maden tomorrow.
Unfortunately Jan has just lost his QF 6-3 6-3. Playing in front a very small crowd. Its a pity more don't go to watch Challenger tennis. It's a pretty decent level and if they had an event near me I would be there every day!
I hope Jan is okay, as he retired injured after three games yesterday against Andrea Pellegrino in Bordeaux.
Well done to Jan, who beat Tomislav Brkic 3- 6, 6 - 4, 6 - 3 in his second round match in Sopot.
Jan beat Jeremy Jahn 6 -3, 6 - 7, 6 - 4 in his third round match, yesterday. He'll now play Filip Horansky in the quarters. Jan is now three points behind Liam Broady in the live ATP rankings.

Jan's got a first round bye in Meerbusch and plays Daniel Munroz de la Nava in the second round.
Jan won 6 - 2, 6 - 4 and plays Aslan Karatsev in the third round.
Jan lost 0 - 6, 2 - 6 against Alejandro Tabilo in his first round match in Geneva.
Does anyone know what has happened to him?

Hi Stell, Found him on Instagram (By sheer chance) name as @janekalpha & two days ago he posted a pic of himself outside Buckingham Palace, & when you go on his page, Jan Choinski GB is underneath @janekalpha, that's all I could find but plenty of pics on his page.

Jan won an ITF event at the end of last year in Santo Domingo, though cannot see any activity listed this season, having checked a few sites. coretennis.net/tennis-player/jan-choinski//result

I hoped he hasn't retired. I looked at the live ATP rankings and he's at 312, but I know he got a lot higher than that last year.
I've sent an email to the LTA and asked them about him.

His ATP player profile is here: https://www.atptour.com/en/players/jan-choinski/ch12/overview
He may have picked up an injury which is preventing him from playing for now.
I've received a reply from Danny McArdle of the LTA. He's told me, he'll try and find out what's happened to Jan.
I received another reply from Danny McArdle claiming he couldn't find out anything on Jan.
Jan's playing in the Tennis Point Exhibition in Germany. All I could find out is it'll be shown live on the Tennis Channel International's website Over-the-Top (OTT). No opponent had been given.
Jan beat Florian Broska 4 - 3 (7 - 5), 4 - 1 but then lost to Johannes Haerteis 2 - 4, 2 - 4 yesterday

I read yesterday that Jan had an operation at the beginning of this year and hadn't played since.
He seems to have recovered from it. He lost 2 - 4, 1 - 4 to Dustin Brown but won 4 - 1, 4 - 0 against Jean-Marc Werner yesterday.
Jan beat Yannick Hanfmann 4 - 3 (7 - 4), 4 - 3 (7- 4) and then beat Benjamin Hassan 4 - 1, 4 - 1 yesterday.
Jan beat Constantin Schmitz in three sets, yesterday, 3 - 4 (4 - 7), 4 - 0, 4 - 1. He'll now play Johannes Haerteis for third and fourth place. Well done Jan.
Jan won 4 - 2, 4 - 2 yesterday.
