View Full Version : Wimbledon 2019, who’s going, tickets etc
Apologies if there is already a thread but I couldn’t find one.
The ballot results must be around the corner. Anyone know when it’s out?
Hoping to go for a couple of days but doing Roland Garros so can’t afford a whole week at Wimby like last year.

Hi Carolyn,
First main ballot will be sent out Friday so lucky people should hear Monday/Tuesday. They did a small ballot a couple of weeks ago for 1 day on Court 2. I saw somebody had posted on Facebook they had tickets.
I am hoping to go to RG for one day (if successful with tickets).

Ive never had any joy with that sale- fingers crossed this time
I've been lucky again. Got Court 2 for Wed 10 July - which will be ladies doubles and mixed dubs I think, but that would be fine. Can always sit on the hill to watch centre depending on who is playing. I expect I'll only do that day.

Yes I seem to recall it wasn't long before the tournament started. The normal BTM ballot was around March time I think.
I've entered the overseas ballot. Hoping to be successful as will be in UK during Wimbledon fortnight. :)

Won't be home till about 6.30 .... keeping everything crossed, although have not had anything in the main ballot for years now. Got some in LTA ballot last year.
Nothing here! I haven't been lucky for years. Was hoping it might be my turn this year. It was my daughter who was lucky last year, so fingers crossed she will have something when she gets back from work!
I am away during Wimbledon, so didn’t apply. I hope some folks strike lucky.

Possible if post not good in your area. Next ballot out around 11 March
I didn't get anything, neither did Gill. Have to wait for the LTA ballot now. Last year Gill got tickets in 2nd round of public ballot and I got some in LTA ballot ... for the same day! Sod's law eh?!

It looks like it’s open to check today as I’ve just done it ... no tickets. But I do seem to remember the same last year. I kept checking every few days and I did get some so not sure when it actually opens!

BTM ballot is out...I got centre court tickets for day 8 which I think is women’s QF. Over the moon because I didn’t get any last year. I was at the men’s final the year before but that was a blink and you would miss it event!!

I got 2 tickets in the Wimbledon Ballot for Thursday 4th July on Court 1. I was wondering if anyone would like to come with me and pay me £75 for their ticket. I have been in touch with the LTA and they only sell them in pairs, so if I’m not able to get someone to come with me I won’t be able to go.

I thought all the Wimbledon third ballot had gone out last week with a date of 11 April to pay by. My sister got Court No.1 second day and another friend Centre on the same day. I rang Wimbledon on the Monday (25th) and they told me the third ballot was about to go out. I think a lot of people didn't take up tickets in the second ballot as you were only given a few days to pay by. I do not know if Elizabeth's tickets are Wimbledon or LTA. They could be LTA as the first ballot came out on 19th March with a two week pay by date. Hope all this makes sense.

Can anyone recommend where to stay in London.
Are you looking to stay in Central London or near Wimbledon? There are hotels in Croydon a tram ride away which are a lot cheaper. If you are going to stay in Central London, I would stay somewhere near the District Line which goes through Southfields (nearest stop to Wimbledon grounds) and then Wimbledon. There are others that know far more than me but I know people stay in Premier Inns at Putney Bridge, Kingston and Vauxhall.

Hi guys, new joiner in this forum. Have attended French and the US Open multiple times, Wimbledon is something that has been on the todo list but been pending for a while. I am in London from 30th June to 7th July (first week) and want to attend on a day or two for sure. We are a family of 4, with kids age 7.5 and 4.5. My questions as below:
1) Plan is to queue the night and get a show court ticket. Rules say kids age less than 5 dont require a ticket and neither are the kids under 5 allowed into the show courts. How is this implemented at the Championship? Do they check DoB of kids in the queue or if i buy a ticket for my 4.5 year old (turns 5 in Oct) he would be allowed into the show court as well? My daughter was 3.5 when we attended the French Open with seats in the center court so obviously we can keep the kids quiet etc. etc.
2) In case we cant take the younger one into the show court then we might plan to camp and queue for show court tickets but take turns between me and the wife to take the daughter into the show court while the other keeps the younger son entertained on the outside courts. That should be allowed under the rules right that we buy 3 show court tickets from the queue and no ticket for the younger one.
3) If for whatever reason #2 is also not possible then thinking between queueing in the morning for ground passes for all of us.
4) My dad and mom are also in London with us and i would also like to take them (not necessarily on the same day as us) but i dont think at their age queueing will be their cup of tea. We were not successful in the overseas ballot so the only reasonably priced option is ticketmaster. I read about the BTM/LTA ticketmaster resale option where the probability of getting tickets increases. If i were to become a member now, will i get access to the exclusive member return ticket sale or is there a cutoff date for purchasing the membership an being eligible for buying resale tickets. The website says that more info about this channel with become available sometime in May so just wondering if i should wait for that info before i buy the membership or just buy the membership right now in case there is any probability of a membership date cutoff for being eligible for that process.
Thanks for the patient reading, looking forward to the inputs as i am really excited to tick off Wimbledon finally from my to-do list :)
Is anyone else thinking of going to the Wimbledon qualifying rounds? I've been to it before and have decided to give it a go.
Tina - message me on here on Facebook if you have any questions about the queue. I’m a wizz now lol. In the past (once) we have legged it from the grounds at around 5 back to the queue and got centre. But on a day RF side of the draw was playing so his fans didn’t want centre for the next day. We made in at about 495 so very close. To have the best chance of centre on Thursday I’d say either leave the grounds earlier on than we did on the Wednesday (earlier than 5) or don’t go to the grounds Wednesday just join the queue x
I’m the queue it’s 500 for centre 500 for 1 and 500 for 2

Thanks for the patient reading, looking forward to the inputs as i am really excited to tick off Wimbledon finally from my to-do list :)I can only apologise that it has taken us so long to get this post through moderation. We have a lot of queue veterans, and I am sure they will be able to help you out.
My advice would be follow the rules in place to prevent being thrown out of banned from Wimbledon and all future ballots. So I would buy a show court ticket for one child and adult, a ground pass for one adult and no ticket for the under 5. Then take it in turns looking after the youngest in the Outside courts and the oldest in the show court.
When you join the queue at some point depending on when you join you will be given queue cards. You are not allowed to leave the queue for more than 30 minutes. There are regular checks. Sometimes you might get away with it if you are slightly over, but over the last few years going and camping I notice more and more people thrown out of the queue for being absent too long. The last two years there were other queuers (sadly) who took it upon themselves to monitor and report absences. It’s petty and silly but if you are near a 500 barrier it happens even more. For example when we were in the 490s (guaranteed centre) some people behind in the early 500s (Court 1) watching our every move. I guess I’m the hope that the 3 of us messed up and bumped them nearer the top 500. I imagine it’s the same in the late 900s early 1000s (for court 1) and late 1500 early 1600s (for court 2). When you get your queue card you may be asked about the children then. It isn’t possible to “save spaces” as they ask for the residents of all tents. What we do when there is 3 of us, in 2 tents , is take it in turns to go to the shop to buy food/drink/ or to the take away or cash point. Then when the steward comes around the person or people left behind can say queue number whatever has just gone to ... and text you to get a wiggle on. Last year we’d be gone about 5 minutes when the cake round and then 20 minutes later when we were on the way back our 3rd member text to say they were coming back down the queue better run. We got there as they got to our tent! Lol. No doubt someone saw us leave and reported it. Some times they are much slower. Years ago they barely checked at all. I guess there’s been more problems with queue jumpers.
The next morning after a 5am wake up you put down your tent and and take it to the luggage storage. Usually leaving one of you to mark the queue place. Then they bring out the wrist bands for courts centre, 1 and 2. That is another point at which you could be asked about your child’s age, when you request a wrist band for them as they won’t need one for outside courts only. Then there’s security and eventually tickets from gate 3 (by then it’s around 9.30 - but again times vary). At that point you show your wrist band for a ticket and if they could ask again there.
Can I ask what size tent you are intending to bring? As the rule is a two man and these days that is much more heavily enforced too. As you’d struggle to fit 4 of you in a two man you’d be better with 2 tents. It seems mad because it’s the same number of people but it allows them to keep the tents to the white line and in a queue. There are no awnings or windbreakers etc allowed as the space is small. We usually have 2 in one tent and 1 in another. The storage for your tent is £5 and the money goes to charity.
Hope this helps.
With regards to LTA membership, I would join as soon as possible then you are covered. As last year by the time people knew the cut of date it was too late. The lta aren’t the most organised. However the person who buys the ticket has to be using the tickets (single or a pair) has to be present to collect the tickets. This is through a different gate and requires ID and the card you paid on. Last year for example, my partner a ticket for the second Monday, though he paid on his card and using his membership, and I got the quarters paying on my card with my membership. When the friend I planned to go with on the Wednesday couldn’t go I couldn’t swap and take her Monday and me and partner go Wednesday as he had to be there Monday to get the tickets. It was a day when England were playing so I could find anyone’s else to go with me and had to sell my tickets back to Wimbledon. It was an easy process and I wasn’t out of pocket and it wasn’t a match I fancied anyway. On the Monday when my partner and I went to collect our tickets, they asked him for photo ID and the card he paid on in order to get the tickets.
So if the lta tickets you want are for your parents then the membership needs to be in one of their names and the payment card the same. I know it sounds mad but it works at keeping touting to a minimum and that is better for everyone. .
I don't know if this is the right one, but BBC 1 will be showing Wimbledon Court One's roof opening next Sunday at 2pm (14.00pm).

Thank you for the information. We read the fact that only 2 people tents are allowed so we will be taking 2 tents with us. But basis your inputs i am wondering if it is better to just queue up in the morning for ground passes and try and see if we can get the show court through the afternoon resale or through ticketmaster. Also planning to buy the LTA membership (separate ones for Dad & myself) today itself to increase the probability of getting show court tickets.
However still curious; did anyone on this forum travel with young kids and how did they administer the age check?

MohitI'm not aware of anyone from here having taken children that young.
I certainly told my niece who is a big tennis fan that she’d be better waiting until she was older for the queue. I didn’t think she’d be too impressed queueing all evening, night and then such a big one in the morning too. Its easier if you get tickets. With the resale ticket queue you still won’t be able to take a 4 year old into a show court.
For the resale to be in with a chance you have to go straight to that queue when you get into the grounds. Tickets don’t become available until 3pm at the earliest. Obviously similar rules apply as to the main queue with the difference being the time allowed for pass outs is significantly shorter. There isn’t a lot of space where they have you queue for that and no shade. A number of our members il sure remember the heat of 2017 sat in the queue hoping for Murray tickets. It was the hottest day of the year and there was no shade, we were there from 10 until 4.30 before we got our tickets and we were a few from the front. I had to run to the gift shop to buy an umbrella for some shade! So if you plan to do the resale my advice would be to bring a small umbrella for both adults so they can shelter under there with a child. Others got in later but it depends how quick you can get from the entry to the grounds to the resale when the drop the barrier without running. It gets pretty hectic.
With the exception of players children I haven’t seen many young children around the grounds before. Especially not on the show courts so I guess most people take them when they are older as friends of mine have. Here of course Wimbledon takes place during term time. So that means less children too. I have never seen anyone with children younger than 10 or so in the overnight camping queue on all my trips to Wimbie. I camp in the queue every year. There are usually more children who are around the first tube. Depending on the weather and the schedule sometimes those on the the first tube can still get court 2 and on a couple of occasions even court 1. It’s common if there is a particular favourite on one of the none wristband show courts like 3 for example where they often put kyrgios. Of course you can go into these courts with just a grounds pass.
In terms of ID, the standard is photo ID - I use a my driving licence not sure for children, perhaps passport? But as I imagine you are asking because you are eating the risk of breaking the age limit rule and attempting to buy a ticket anyway I don’t a passport would help. Maybe at least if you try that in the resale you only lose £10 (ish resale is very cheap and the money goes to charity) should the security not let you into the court itself when you attempt to take your seat.
Though again I would advise against risking breaking the rules. They are there for a number of reasons including those of insurance and liability, it’s not really about the ability to keep the child quiet but safe and insured. When you are caught for breaching the terms you risk your whole party being rejected, the ability to attend again and the right to enter any future ballots or tickets sales. They would take your name and address.
The Ticketmaster sale usually happenes the day before for the next day, so tickets for the Tuesday May go onsale monday. I have never had any luck with it. There are only a few tickets up for grabs in that sale. The resale is a great option for those not camping over night or even who get to the queue to late. We once got to the queue in time for court 2 but instead joined the resale to Get centre. The other half got a debentures ticket as his resale so you can get great seats.

Will not be going to Wimbledon this year....unless someone offers me a free ticket.:rolling: Just been to Spain and have Queen's and a few days in Margate straight after, then a weekend at Cromlix followed by holiday in Rio in November. Perhaps next year I won't pack in so many excursions. I seemed to have done nothing but pack a suitcase since Alan died.
As usual, I've been having nothing but problems with the Ticketmaster website. But, somehow, I managed to get two tickets for the qualifying rounds (even though it didn't recognise my email address and password).
Just sent an email to Ticketmaster and I've told them what I think of their website.
I had a letter the other day with offer of tickets for no 1 court on mens' semis day in the public ballot. Seats not together it says but they are usually not too far apart and that wouldn't put me off. Won't be accepting them though as am there first couple of days. If they were centre court on the other hand ....;)

I got seats on court 1 first Tuesday in ballot returns which said seats not together. They arrived the other day and are literally one behind the other.
They must have read my complaint, as I've suddenly been able to order the two tickets without any problems. But, I did find that Ticketmaster are offering tickets for some Wimbledon match re-run from 1980. It's being shown in London.

I received an email, yesterday evening, offering me tickets for the rematch. But, I won't be able to make it. If anyone is interested in going, it's https://www.universe.com/events/wimbledon-rematch-1980-tickets-3P4DRX?ref=_marketing-shell-event It's for the 28th and 29th of this month in Fulton Road, Wembley. Tickets cost between £53.90 and £96.49 and it starts at 6.30pm.
I received my tickets for Court 1 on the 4th July. Getting excited will be watching with Carole M as we have tickets next to each other. She lives near to Wimbledon and has been many times, so she has kindly offered to meet me at my Hotel so we can go on the tram together.:boogie::GBflag:

If you are not a team member you can still join for 20/30 by 20th to be eligible for sales from 24th, I do recommend, I went 5 days last year and I could have gone virtually any day. No guarantee it will be as easy this year though.

Yeah, the same happened with the tickets at the back of centre court that they offer the day before - we easily got tickets that way the first couple of years and haven't managed since.

Yes, it would. I've done just that in the past, not least because you can't get tickets online/by queue for Court 1 or Centre for the last 4 days anyway so queueing for ground passes is the only option without a ticket.
There's usually doubles finals on those last 2 days on Court 1 which can be entertaining and if it is raining it's better to have a seat than be out on the hill.
The disadvantages are that you can't watch the big screen i.e. the Finals matches being played on Centre Court, and you can't queue for Centre Court returns!
What are people's plans to see Andy playing doubles? :)

Lucky reserved still same normal.
Reserved 24 hours before day play at 9am
Returns 48 hours before day play at 12pm
Will need note that myself so I remember for next year! Lol.
Sam, I don't think it's American Express only, I read that as that there are a group of tickets reserved exclusively for AmEx card holders, yes, but tickets will be available for holders of other cards. It does mean that the overall ticket pot is reduced, however.

Posted by Stu Fraser on Twitter ref weekend travel to Wimbledon.
A public transport warning for those coming to Wimbledon for the media day today: The District Line is closed due to planned engineering works. Great weekend to do it...
Alternative route, as posted by Stu
Victoria Line to Vauxhall, train to Wimbledon station, 493 bus to All England Club.
It seems only weekends are affected and they might not have closures during Wimbledon.
However, if you are going to Wimbledon on the 2 weekends (Sat 6th, Sat 13th or Sun 14th July) it'd be wise to check for any closures (planned works here (https://tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/planned-track-closures#on-this-page-0)) on the Transport For London website.

Pre-select the court. I found it best to have each court open in its on tab. It also seems easier to search for a pair of tickets as this is the default setting on the page.

Maybe Jo or Dan, possibly Andy in the doubles, reckon Roger is on centre, think Ash must be due centre, Rafa could be either, I have centre would love Dan there but thinking unlikely.

I got Centre Court returns for Saturday on ticketmaster at lunchtime.:thumbup::thumbup::cheer::cheer::cheer::s trawberry:
Brilliant, well done. Get there in plenty of time to collect your tickets. The collection process is a little slow - we waited about 30 minutes on Monday and over an hour on Tuesday (though they did have a power cut which slowed everything down on Tues). They are strict about the photo-ID rule so have it handy

I had a fantastic day yesterday - the mixed doubles obviously the icing on the cake. I took a work colleague/ friend who had never been before. She loved it

news from the queue
monday evening ground passes
the evening entry queue this evening is very long. If you are thinking about joining, i wouldn’t recommend it.
grounds passes are easily available most days by getting to the queue around 7am.
if you arrive later, you will still likely get in, but you might have a long wait in #thequeue (https://twitter.com/hashtag/thequeue?src=hash)
tuesday ladies quarter-finals
the overnight queue is still relatively short, around 250. Most queuing for wednesday men’s qf, meaning there will be plenty of chances to get a show court for the women’s qf tomorrow. Perfect day if you want to go to wimbledon without too much queuing.
wednesday mens quarter-finals
folks are already queueing (camping mon/tues nights) for these matches.
