Just a brief summary for those signing in later today ...

Murray got off to a spirited start breaking Roddick in the first game of the first set. AM looked in fine forum but, after holding the 2nd game, he indicated that he wanted the trainer on at the change of ends. Mohamed Lahyani on the radio "Murray, leg, at the next changeover". A spot of treatment to AM's thigh and it doesn't look as though there is too much to worry about; play goes with serve to 3-2 in AM's favour.

A great drop shot in game 6 gave AM 4-2. In game 7 there was a gear change. AR produced some horror shots whilst AM hit a couple of stunners and broke ARod to love. AM had the bit between his teeth and served for the first set at *5-2.
At 40-15 he produced his first DF but another sensational winner secured the set 6'2.

Set 2 was almost a repeat of the first with AM breaking AR in the first and third games and racing away to a 4-0 lead. Much drama from Andy Roddick who smashed his racquet in frustration at being broken for the 2nd time and earned a warning from MoLay.
Cue Roddick rant to Umpire at the change of ends ..... the racquet was Gonzo'd.
;)

ARod finally got on the board in the 5th game but never really made inroads into AM's confident play.
All it took were 2 holds of serve and Andy Murray served it out for 6'2 finishing with 2 Aces!!!
:boogie:

Dominant play yet again from Andy Murray against Andy Roddick - definitely not "social".

Delighted it was by all accounts a superb performance from Andy, really put Roddick in his place again! Really thought it would have been a least a bit tougher this time, though don't think A Rod is quite the same force now.

I think Roddick has not had a stellar year but looking at his comments on the ATP site, he felt he had no chance on such a slow court where "he was not getting a reward for a deep approach shot in the far court" - in other words, next time he meets Andy he can use the slowness of the court as an excuse.
However, it is pretty clear than this, or even the "better" Roddick, cannot hurt Andy enough and is a very good match up for our Andy nowadays, unless Roddick serves lights-out and Andy has one of his off days.

I thought Roddick was horrible today and last week against Fed. He's nothing like the player he was a few years ago.

Congratulations Andy! So glad to see you're in the quarter finals. You've defended your points from last year and can only gain at this tournament. :worship:
