The Laver Cup is now being made an official ATP event.
No points ... but all the backing etc of ATP organisation.

This is more appealing to me at the minute than the fake DC. I know it's not team GB but it's a fun event and would be great to attend.

I am going with my sister, Tennisfan, this year. We have really enjoyed watching the previous events on TV.

I'm assuming it's pricey and I've likely missed the boat for tickets now anyway ...

Caro, there was a wide range of ticket prices, there were some individual day tickets left the other week. We bought a medium range ticket package for all 3 days costing £722 each.

Seeing fantastic tennis here in Geneva. Matches very tight, all going to tiebreaks. Fanatical crowd here, arena rocking with feet stamping etc. Roger V Kyrgios was a great match, Roger pushed all the way. Going back in shortly for Rafa’s match, his first time on court, he looked as if he couldn’t wait yesterday to get on the court!

Love it. I think Kyrgios should skip playing and go straight to coaching. He comes into his own.

Not always a Roger fan, but he has just come out and done what he has needed to do this pm after a few surprise losses from Team Europe. No fuss, clinical and just brilliant. Hope he can get the win.

Well done Team Europe - snuck in at the last by winning the CTB!!!
:trophy:

So good to see Rafa and Roger and all of them (in both teams) 'coaching' one another and clearly really into the competition. As for Borg! He looked as though he'd won another Grand Slam when Zverev hit the winning shot. It was quite comical.

If you missed it try to rewatch the final match on Amazon Prime. Zverev was ahead 6'4 but Raonic came back to take the 2nd set 6'3 for Team World. Zverev had the upperhand through the CTB taking it 10-4.

It was all simply scintillating! Really enjoyed it. Been a great weekend of tennis, with Murray Trophy, St Petersburg and Medvedev winning again and Jo-Willy winning in Metz. And Andy coming up this incoming week! Oh boy!

2020 Laver Cup will be held in Boston at the TD Arena.
(Chris Clarey on Twitter (https://twitter.com/christophclarey))

2020 Laver Cup will be held in Boston at the TD Garden, home of the Celtics and Bruins, which seats close 20,000. Olympic year so Cup organizers did not want players to have to travel far after the US Open: just up the road. Laver Cup organizers also looked seriously at Vancouver and at Montreal. Clearly tempting to take it to Canada with the tennis boom. Will be there down the road

Would love to see it live. So entertaining although I guess when there you don't hear the coaching. You find yourself behind really different players from normal and see so much of their personality. Very pleased for Sascha as he has had odd year. I was always a big Borg fan back in the day but I have to say his coaching style is rather 'Don't speak. Ever. Just clap and maybe go to the fridge ' .

Rosalind you are right about us not hearing the coaching but we could see what was going on with the teams as we made sure our seats were opposite the team benches. And we did a bit of lip reading via the big screens! Such great tennis matches and such spirit shown by the players. We loved it! It was bedlam in the arena. We were very amused by how different Milos was in his approach to being encouraged by his team mates. Kyrgios was so so keen to touch him and encourage him but had to content himself with just clapping and standing beside him on the team bench.

We are not going to Boston next year but will consider 2021 in Europe somewhere.

I would also consider going. I think the ticket prices are high though - yikes at £700+. And I don't like being up in the gods :) I noticed Milos was not quite into being told what to do by Nick! No meeting of the minds there! Also noticed complete lack of help coming from Borg. That was weird. Then I wondered if it was in his contract or something to leave that to Roger and Rafa. I know that sounds odd too but I just couldn't understand it as it was so obvious.

Whilst I only seen some if it certainly seemed enjoyable and entertaining, however still view it as a glorified exhibition and personally would not be interested (far too expensive anyway!)

I noticed that while Borg was playing the 'Davis Cup' captain role, of just offering a smile and the occasional word, McEnroe was offering coaching advice and acting as cheerleader. I also caught the look on Raonic's face when being constantly urged on by Kyrgios and Sock. He must have had a word cos later on his teammates definitely took a more passive role. It's also clear that some players don't work well in that Alpha male, team type environment (RBA, Raonic), and that others possibly go along with it so they get thought of better by their peers (Shapovalov)

Back home after 3 days of absolutely fantastic tennis. Unbelievable that it came down to the last match with the Match Tiebreak. Great format. For those considering/thinking of going don’t hesitate, you will love it!

It goes to Boston, next year, but I would like to be held in London especially as London is coming to the end of hosting the ATP World Tour Finals.

I hear what you're saying James and yes it is an exhibition but nowt wrong with that in my book .... the Ryder Cup is also an exhibition and that seems to work pretty well and mean a lot to the players ;)

Personally I absolutely loved it! Don't agree with matches counting in h2h as not even 3 full sets and coaching allowed at every change of ends, but other than that ... fantastic! I do wish they would lay off on the promotion etc a bit though. No need, the spectacle sells itself!

I would be there like a shot if it were held in London! (better start saving ;))

Have to disagree about the Ryder Cup being an exhibition. The event has been taking place since the late 1920's, you only have to see the reactions of the players and the fans to know how serious they take it. Players have to qualify or rely on being a captain's choice and the decision over who gets to be captain would put a papal election to shame !
Laver Cup (imho) is just a bit of Federer and Nadal fun.

I've received an email from the 02 telling me about the Laver Cup being played between the 23rd and 25th September 2022 and would I be interested in buying tickets for it. It said I have to sign up to them to get email alerts as to when the tickets will go on sale. So, I've signed up.
