The BBC will soon be announcing the venue, but could copy as to what they did last year and not announce the contenders until the night. I looked up the statistics and found athletics came top with 51 athletes having come first, second or third in the final count. Andy Murray is top with having won it four times (he won it three times and came third, once). England are top, out of all the home countries, with 141 English people being placed in the top three in the past. Scotland came second with 18 and Wales came third with 13.

If they (the BBC) decided to give out an award for 'best comeback', it would go to Andy Murray.

Aberdeen has been chosen to host it: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/aberdeen-to-host-bbc-sports-personality-of-the-year-2019-d7c5ts6bw

If I was one of the people, who has decide what names to put onto the shortlist, I would have Andy Murray's name at the top.

Doubt unfortunately there will be award for Best Comeback though , whatever folk think here hard to see Andy being nominated for main award.

No, but he must fit the criteria for the Hellen Rollason award?

“The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award is an award given annually as part of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony each December. The award is given "for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity", and the winner is selected by BBC Sport”.

Contentious?

Yes, absolutely it's contentious! I know we're all huge Andy fans, but come on, let's keep some perspective. Here's a list of past winners: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Sports_Personality_of_the_Year_Helen_Rollason_ Award

Hmmm I'm not so sure. I don't think for a moment that Andy will be nominated but - given all that he has been through - I don't know why the h*** not!!

Given all he's been through? I admire Andy hugely, but putting him on a par with past winners who recently include a 7/7 survivor, Bradley Lowery and a double leg amputee isn't just contentious it's bordering on obscene imo. Can only assume you didn't look at the list.

Anyway, I've made my point so won't labour it, each to their own views.

I did look at the list. Personally I think AM’s achievements, would fall within the remit. I certainly think the description of the winners doesn’t make the prospect of AM’s inclusion in any way obscene. However, as you say each to their own views.

I also can't see anything 'obscene' about it, given the dictionary definition of obscene as 'offensive or disgusting by accepted standards of decency or morality'. Andy certainly fits the remit for 'outstanding achievement in the face of adversity' in my book. He has achieved something no-one has ever achieved before and the vast majority of people believed couldn't be achieved. Still, as you say, each to their own. I'm pretty sure it won't happen anyway!

Who will win Team of the Year? It should be between England cricket team (who won the world cup) or the England rugby team (who are expected to win the world cup).

Ben Stokes, Dina Asher-Smith, Raheem Sterling, Alun Wyn Jones and Lewis Hamilton are the only nominations so far.

Add Katerina Johnson-Thompson to your list and that's the final six.

Be very surprised (and a bit disappointed) if Stokes doesn't win it.

The two athletes will be competing for the same votes and I really don't like Hamilton, Sterling or Wyn Jones.

KJT for me. Don't like seeing a member of a team win. England's cricket team as team of the year, certainly.

I wouldn't be disappointed with KJT just think the athletics vote will be split slightly. Sort of agree re individual within a team comment but a stellar batting display is more clearly an individual performance than playing or even scoring in football or rugby.

He's an amazing man. I met him once. He's a giant of a man. He climbed the pole in the forestry arena at the Royal Highland Show. Think it must have been around 1994 or 1995. Can't remember when the forestry arena started. He came running into the stand and asked if he could climb the pole. He had to sign a disclaimer.... I kept it in the office files for years :rolling:
