The scoreline of this Venus Williams match is going very very slowly. Sorry to be impatient ladies but I want to see Andy
This is like a dream. I can't quite believe we are waiting for an Andy SINGLES match. When it finally gets underway, perhaps I will then realise it is for real. I don't mind what the result is: I will be more interested to know how Andy will feel where he is after the match; recovery, how the body feels, how he's moving etc. That will tell us a lot what the way forward may be.

Never did I think this day would come after hearing the retirement announcement just as we got off our flight back from New York in January. That was the first news we heard in the airport and we were so upset.

I am waiting for it. However being a wuss I am not looking forward to it. I know the odds are he is going to lose, but I will feel sad for him. Equally I know it’s a miracle he is even going to do it.

Venus Williams has match point, so not long now.
Each to their own Teresa, but never have understood this stressy approach to following Andy and never will. Watching him over the years has been nothing but a joy for me, irrespective of results. Have savoured every match and I'm 100% doubling-down on that - come what may every moment Andy now spends on court is a bonus I'll cherish. Go Andy !! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Well it was the Friday and weekend matches that went off so... let's see! It is a couple of Euros difference for me but Prime is dependent on Tennistv and not the other way round so not taking the risk this time. I hope it is fine for you!

I have Prime regardless of the tennis, so it works for me. First set to Gasquet. However a good performance for his first singles match since January.

Gasquet takes the first set 6-4. Andy understandably rusty. Near the end of the set Gasquet was using drop shots a lot - three in one game. Oh well. So wonderful to see him back live, so let's see what happens in the second set. C'mon Andy!

Broken at start of the second. Obviously not match fit. Not surprising really.
Gasquet seems to be continuing his in-form play from last week (unfortunately). But don't think any of us had high expectations (although Andy might have!) Tiny steps and it's great to see him out there. x

I think Andy managed that match really well. Covering the court and managed to make one of the drops shots towards the end. Lots of positives to take away.

Oh well Andy losing 6-4 6-4 but he is back. 96 minutes of proper competition against an opponent with a full range of shots.

Now to see how his body is tomorrow...
Andy, being Andy, will have wanted to win this. But sounds like a reasonable first match back.

Great to see Andy playing again hope that he can take lots of positives from his match
I enjoyed watching every single ball Andy struck, whether it was in or out. And many that did go out, didn't go out by much, so he's really getting there. He'll not be long in sorting that out. Just a treat to be able to watch him, win or lose. With every match he plays, it will get better and better. To be out there for 96 minutes after major surgery, and only getting broken twice (sorry, maybe it was 3 times; Andy also had a break back in set 1) is, in my book, a great start.
PS: And he's still in the doubles, so more to look forward to! Second on tomorrow after 11.00am start local, 4.00pm here. Can't wait. I've become very attached to those doubles matches.

It was lovely to see Andy back playing singles again. It was never going to be easy and it was a great start back to singles. So much more than we thought he could do. He'll get better with time.

Ceetainly an encouraging performance form Andy, flashes of brilliance if not quite the consistency and timing yet and knew Gasquet would make it tough, Richie was stronger in most of the longer points but impressed nonetheless. Possibly he was a bit uncertain at the start but entirely understandable. Probably not quite ready for best of five so think right decision to leave singles Slam comeback till next season.

Aw how lovely was that, just seeing him on court was brilliant! I'm sure Andy will be disappointed a bit (that's Andy) but it was amazing to see how well he was playing. I'm sure a lot was fitness and also singles match play. Can't wait to see how he is in the doubles. Will be praying he comes bouncing out as he did at Queens!!

It was ok wasn't it? Always disappointing not to win of course but not too bad and who would have thought back in Jan. Did anyone else think Andy seemed more out of breath than before? I was just wondering as I thought so and I guess it is just a case of building up the stamina.
I thought he played well, for someone who hadn't played since the Aussie Open. He claimed, afterwards, he wasn't match fit. It's been suggested that he might be playing again next week in Winston-Salem.
I enjoyed every minute of it and judging by Andy's smile at the net at the end, so did he :big grin:

They seem to be improving all the time. I think after the flak about Andy and Feli's match last week being advertised them not broadcast, they seem to have become more slick. So they've started listing individual matches and as of today, if the match has already started, there's an option to watch a match from the beginning without having to wait till it's ended for the replay.
