Think it’s going to be too late for me, but the odds are I am going to wake regardless.

Sadly in week 1 of term I don't fancy 30 P7s on 3 hours sleep so will watch the replay tomorrow. Crossing everything for him.

Oh dear. It's raining in WS. I hope that doesn't delay Andy's match too much. There's a limit to how long even I can stay awake!

Looking forward to watching it on Prime first thing in the morning! Have to say I do love how they give you options for every match you have missed. They have improved a lot since last year

Still raining in Winston-Salem so it's very likely there'll be a revised OOP for today. Singles usually take priority if the weather conditions reduce playing time.

Sallydaisy

Rain or not, it seems Andy's match is to start shortly and is on Prime Video.

Still raining :rain:

I went to bed after Corrie and got up at 12 to hear it's raining at WS and no real signs of play. Having tea and toast before I make a decision - the things we do for Andy! x

WSO has now officially cancelled all Doubles matches today.

I'm 3 hours south west of Winston Salem at moment and no rain!!! Frustrating but glad I decided not to go, was contemplating it but today was a driving day and money is a big factor at the moment.

time for andy now moved to 1.30, shan't wait up for it

Sallydaisy
19-08-2019, 23:40
The match prior to Andy's had only just begun the first game so even if they resumed soon it'd be a good 2 hours before Muzz was on court.
I'm going back to bed!!!

patlowe

:rain::sleepy::cuppa::surrender: I think I'll have to give up too. Rain may have stopped but it's going to be ages before they get the court dried before a match can resume. And who knows...there may even be more rain. It's already 8pm there, would they expect to get 2 matches played tonight? Shame. Was so looking forward to Andy's match. Night. Night.

How strange! A new oop for rest of today is out. Apparently play will start again at 1.30am BST, and its Andy's match! No sign of match that had just started before rain delay. It was Steve Johnson vs Moutet. Is that not odd that it's been dropped from today?

RoastLamb
20-08-2019, 00:20
Don't they always or tend to put the current suspended match on second the next day. I've never understood why.

lynne
20-08-2019, 00:26
Well they have put Andy's match back to 2am UK so think it's night night folks!!

Sallydaisy
20-08-2019, 00:28
Latest tweet from WSO states there's no play until at least 9pm local time so 2am in the UK.

Damm - Andy loses 1st set on tight tie break.

I had a horrible feeling that, that was imminent- it was so close, and he is so rusty. Just how much has he got left?

clancy
20-08-2019, 03:38
He needs a couple of good runs but not getting the (slightly easier) draws to enable him to do so. x

Teresa
20-08-2019, 03:41
Broken at start of second.

I think he needs to head to Challenger tournaments. 1) That will give him easier draws. 2) That will build his confidence up.

I still think Singles is not going to be sustainable after hip surgery.

Teresa
20-08-2019, 03:46
I think he has run out of puff. Double break:-(

Teresa
20-08-2019, 03:48
This is only his second tournament, but it’s painful to see.

clancy
20-08-2019, 03:50
3-0 down in the 2nd. I feel for him, wants to prove he can do it so much. Going to be a miserable day, tired and sad, and it's raining again. x

clancy
20-08-2019, 03:54
He's got a second wind!

Teresa
20-08-2019, 04:14
Can he break again?

Teresa
20-08-2019, 04:19
0:30

He had that and Sandgren’s last service game. Can he push on?

Teresa
20-08-2019, 04:20
Yes. Back on serve. Now hold.

clancy
20-08-2019, 04:20
Fighting back, the Andy we love.

Teresa
20-08-2019, 04:23
Broken alas. Rats. Don’t think Sandgren will let it go again:-(

clancy
20-08-2019, 04:27
Respectable score-line. Keep heart Andy. x

Teresa
20-08-2019, 04:27
Nope. Couldn’t pull it off again. A brilliant fight, but went down 6:7(10), 5:7

Can't get enough of Andy's matches. Don't know how many more we will have. He lightens my heart even when he loses! x

Sallydaisy
20-08-2019, 06:05
75 minute 1st set and he was 0-3 in 2nd but the main thing was he kept fighting for the win in a match lasting 2hrs, 11mins. And he was running from side to side easily on that metal hip!!!

Quick note from Russell Fuller on Twitter :-

Tennys Sandgren beats Andy Murray 7-6 7-5 in Winston-Salem after a five hour rain, thunder & lightning delay. Very good first set from Murray before losing the tiebreak 10-8, and he never quite recovered from going a double break down early in the second.

When the US Open begins on Monday, Murray may well be playing in Mallorca on the Challenger Tour. He will fly home from Winston-Salem on Tuesday, and even though he’s not made a final decision, seems to favour a trip to Spain.

Per David Law on Twitter :-

Andy Murray getting closer. Last night in Winston Salem lost 7-6, 7-5 to Tennys Sandgren. First set took 75 minutes, Murray had a set point and looked the better player. Didn’t win the big points. Looking more and more like his old self

Sad that Andy didn't manage a win in the early hours, but by all accounts he is quite happy with the progress he is making, so that is just fine.:)

Whilst pity Andy could not find a way through certainly looks like he gave a good account of himself and showing his fighting spirit, just did not win so many of the key points. Positives to build on moving forward and playing the challenger a good idea. Will catch the replay later.

I heard on radio five live, this morning, that he'd lost. The sports reporter believed Andy is on his way back.

Finally got to watch the match on catch up! A very close encounter, and I believe there are so many positives to take from it. With a few more matches, Andy will be winning encounters like this. The first set was very nip and tuck and could easily have gone either way. I thought Andy's serve was solid and I really enjoyed a few very special Murray Magic "yes!" moments. It was good to see him so competitive in that first set. That alone, win or lose it, was very encouraging. Also. it was good to hear all the support for him despite the fact he was playing an American. And again in the second set, Andy's 'never say die' attitude was very apparent, and I loved the way he attacked the net. Another very positive point. He did so well to recover to 5 all. In the next game, Sandgren found some amazing returns, so credit to him. All in all, I'm really quite a happy bunny after what I have seen. The future seems so full of hope and optimism fuelled by the fact we are going to see more of Andy. Where and when I care not!

I think Pat has said it all. I stayed up to watch and was very encouraged by Andy's performance. Fighting spirit, movement and shots gave me lots of hope for the future. Go Andy!:thumbup: Andy having to wait through long rain delay and Sandgren not appearing on time was a distraction he didn't need but he seemed to accept it with good grace.

Watched it on my ipad in bed last night and fell asleep during the very last game. Disappointed he lost tbh, I think it was winnable. Hope he does well in the fall circuit.

Superb effort from Andy by the sound of it, and from the AMFFers who managed to watch in the wee small hours despite the very extended rain delay. Well done folks :worship:.
I'll watch the replay tonight but from your comments and the reports I've seen it sounds like Andy is making good progress. I do hope he plays some challengers, it really is a big ask to come straight back onto the ATP Tour. Being slightly selfish, I'm hoping he changes his mind about doing the early stages of the Asian swing and opts for Glasgow instead.

I also was encouraged by Andy last night. He seemed a lot more comfortable with his movement and it was a good match. Yes, still has progress to make but I feel he can do it. He was serve and volleying more as well which I liked. That and a good serve should help him.

Just saw it on replay on tennis tv. Mixed feelings. Andy is making progress. I suppose we just need to be patient, although it just seemed so winnable as RoastLamb says....

I think we need to keep in mind the advice Petch gave to Andy's fans..."Give him time. Be patient. Be kind .." I believe that is what we are all doing!

I thought it was progress. There were some quick sprints and generally less miss-hits.

I watch the replays with match timings like this. It's easy to avoid score by not looking at various pages and the general public know nothing so just don't bring it -up - they won't. You can then watch in the morning.
