Thank you for that cazza. Enjoyed it. Absolutely agree with Lendl about men's tennis in the 1960's being a great era. I loved that era. Mac, on eulogising Laver, "He was a guy who was 5'9"..." Lendl interjecting, "He still is!!" Loved it!

It was a good performannce form Bedene but Zverev too strong in the end. In one of the tougher matches Monfils finally get better of Shapovalov 6-3 in the 5th, whilst a seedings upset not really too much of a surprise that Rublev put out kygrios though expected more than 3 sets.

Woke up. Checked scores. Then REALLY woke up! Grigor was 2-0 in final set. Just had to watch. Grigor beat Fed, 6-2 final set. Amazing win and most def did not see that coming. But it's fantastic. Am almost stunned. So so over the moon for Grigor. It's the bandana, what else could it be! Now all of a sudden things are very interesting. It just shows in sport anything, literally anything, can happen. I should know that by now. Been watching for long enough. But it's very sweet all the same. Now Grigor...COME ON!! GO!! :cheer::boogie: :boogie:

Was a good match. Glad I watched it, almost didn't as didn't want to see another boring Fed match, ha!!ha!!
Thought Dimi had blown it early on but he hung in there and played some great tennis. Fed not up to par, and has had it too easy so far I think. 5 sets just too much. Two straight set wins for the victors. Certainly entertaining between Medvedev and Dimoitov, though Dimi could not seem to consistently challenge once behind though still close sets. Only seen 1st set of 2nd semi too before switching to something else (as doubted could watch it all) Matteo had chance in the first set TB, 4-0 and 6-4 and after that sensed the chance would not come again.

First break to Meddybear ... serving at 2-1 up. Means nothing at this stage of the game.

Did not mean too much as Nadal broke straight back and converted 2nd set point to take it 7-5. Whilst a closely contested set felt Medvedev was playing into the spaniard's hands at times in the rallies. Looked to be heading for straight set wins but a gritty and renergised Daniil fights back from break down to take 3rd 7-5, can he keep the momentum going though!

Omg guys what are we seeing. Can't believe my eyes. Even if Daniil doesn't actually do the unthinkable, my word a star is born. :faint:

Amazing play from Daniil now and a more aggressive play has put Nadal under pressure. However Rafa saves bps for 1 all in 5th.

I’ve always been a Rafa fan, but I’ve enjoyed watching Medvedev more and more throughout this tournament, despite some unsavoury moments early on, and I would love it if he wins this. Still got to get past Rafa though!!

First 2 sets, I could hardly stay awake. Now it's absolutely compulsive viewing. Can hardly believe the turn around. But most of all, amazing, stunning tennis!

It’s fantastic viewing. Medvedev is like a stick-insect - he’s so skinny - where does he get this strength from?!

And I can't wait for Daniil's speech, win or lose this match.

True. Liked the fact that it would have been an Ace from Daniil, so he responded by serving another Ace :)

Lob/volley combo from Rafa there was just awesome

JAMES4578
09-09-2019, 00:45
Nadal certainly stepping up and now leads 4-2, some awesome tennis though Medvedev did give Rafa an opening in the 2 all game. Still even if he goes down Daniil should gain a lot of confidence from the display.

Incredible. Simply unforgettable. I don't like Rafa particularly but my respect for him is through the roof to be able to fend off the complete and utter blitzkrieg that Daniil unleashed on him. And as for that young man; not enough superlatives. Most impressive slam final debut ever and champion in waiting - what.a.player. Both :worship:

Bp for Medvedev but Nadal finds way to take final set 6-4, some drama! It certainly became an exciting final, well done Nadal for the gritty win in the end. A lot of credit though to Daniil for the gutsy fightback and for giving Rafa such a test. Will be disappointed but just fell short in the end. The potential should be realised! Well done to both :clap::clap:

Of all Nadal's 19 slams, this must have been the hardest fought and toughest of them all. What a climax to this years US Open. It's been an amazing tournament this year and tomorrow is going to be very flat! But HUGE congrats to those 2 men. They were stunning. Wow! No words left in the English language to describe it!

Glad that Rafa won but what a match. Well Done to Daniil on his first slam final and the fight he put up. I'm sure he'll be in many more.

Started out rather routine and pedestrian then Meddy Bear stepped up to the plate big time! I got very nervous for Rafa. So glad he prevailed tho'. But, wow, sooooo close! Great speech from MB too. I wish more players were more open and honest like him, too many are robotic dealing with the media and fans. #19! There are NO WORDS! Well done, Rafa. Would love to see him take over Fed's haulage.

I would also like to see Rafa take over as GOAT :) I think he can. I knew very little about Medvedev until this tournament but to me he has the slightly crazy look of the multi-slam winner. Wow he did well and I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I had to watch set by set in between sleep and work today. A really epic fantastic match.

What a match!!! Amazing shots and even though I only watched today I had no idea who had won. Not one person has mentioned the tennis to me (apart from Banskoboy) and don't think they even know it's on.

Really please Rafa won but Danil has grown on me, a little! Still haven't forgiven him for the Feli episode but he's young.......

Rafa really close now, we can't have 2 goats at once can we?

I'm obviously suffering from withdrawal symptoms, and needed a tennis fix, so I've just watched a replay of the boys' singles final. It was a good watch, those kids are good! If you want to see what it's like having no-let serves, watch it! It didn't happen too often. The ball did occasionally clip the net and made no significant difference, and a couple of times the ball just dropped over the net forcing them to scramble. I would like to see no-let serves everywhere. Overall, it would make little difference and would keep the rhythm of the match going which I think would be better. I also heard Martina in commentary last night advocating abolishing the let serve.

No lets is something I could live with, unlike no-ad scoring, which is just wrong.

Just feels wrong, tennis is so fair because you always have to win by 2 points.
