So, Slovakia for my birthday next year sounds good... Looks like all of their recent ties have been in Bratislava so tying in a trip to Vienna sounds possible, or even flying into there. Only an hour away on the train.

direct flight from Manchester to Bratislava, outward Thursday, return late Sunday. Currently less than £50 return, if you only take a small bag on board. ryanair also fly from LBA, Stanstead and Birmingham although flight availability does vary.
It would cost me more to get to Manchester though... Will look at flights from Scotland tonight.

Along the Danube by boat...
As well as the hourly Vienna-Bratislava train service for around €14.40, you can also travel between Vienna and Bratislava by fast Twin City Liner river boat, from city centre to city centre along the scenic Danube.
Operates all year, once a day each way per day in winter, multiple departures from March to October with up to 5 sailings a day in peak season.
Journey time 70-80 minutes, travelling at up to 32 knots (60 km/h).
Fare around €29
Only hand luggage is carried - no larger bags, backpacks or suitcases.
For times, fares and online booking, see www.twincityliner.com (http://www.twincityliner.com).
Another company also offers Vienna-Bratislava trips by hydrofoil, from €18, see www.lod.sk (http://www.lod.sk).
My sister informs me that beer is 1 euro per litre! Although post Brexit that'll probably be £25...
Most do a supporter thread in Coaches Corner.
According to the Government's website, everyone's passport must be valid for six months or more before you travel to Slovakia.
No sure about this. Like the idea, but also want to go to Greenland next year.

As much as I would like to go, I will probably have to give it a miss

Me too, will give it a miss
I was thinking of waiting to see what happens to our team for next year's Davis Cup and then decide what to do. If we had to go through the qualifying round and got a home tie (Birmingham or Glasgow?!!), then I would probably go to that one as I know the pound and the Euro aren't very good at the moment and nobody knows what will happen come the 31st October. Also, you never know as Andy might decide to turn up and play.

Last time I was in Bratislava Dominika Cibulkova walked down the street past us :)
sorry on Stenaline and I have wifi! (and peace to use it)
Venue confirmed.

I’d got it into my head that the Davis Cup qualifiers were the weekend before this and that is why no one else was interested... But as Stell said on the other thread the qualifiers (should we need to qualify) are in early March.
Guess I’d better get this booked then...

https://www.seat61.com/Slovakia.htmIf it was once true, sadly no longer, only runs once a day on weekends and bank holidays during the winter.
Anyway, that's me booked up for flights in and out of Vienna, 3 nights in Vienna, 3 nights in Bratislava, getting the train between the two.
Tickets go on sale on Tuesday.
So, this could be the only non "world cup" style event next year for GB fans, with the Fed Cup changing to a DC style week long finals event. Still no-one fancy it except me?

I do but dates don't work for me
Getting the train from Vienna to Bratislava in 90 minutes or so, looking forward to Bratislava being a bit cheaper!
Hope you have a great time! I have a really busy few days, so not sure how much of the action I will be able to see, sadly.
Sally and I ended up on the same train, and after a bit of confusion about buses from the station we are now both safely at our respective hotels.
Well done Sally and Hawkeye. It's a part of the world I would love to visit. Did you enjoy train journey? Have a fab time at the tennis...and you never know...it's all on the day! Go GB.
:GBflag:
The train journey was fine, not much to see really, but what was most striking was the obvious differences when we crossed the border between the housing and the farmland.
It’s empty. That’s sad for them, (and you and Sally).
So you are behind umps chair. Will look out for you!

We're 13 rows up behind team bench, end of row on service line. I'm in tartan with red/blue stuff in hair, Hawkeye in red 'back the Brits' t-shirt. BATS are in 3 or 4 rows below us. It's still not very full.

Haven't seen any advertising for the tie around the city, and the Slovakians I've spoken to haven't known about it. When I checked in to the hotel, the lass on reception didn't even know where the National Tennis Centre was.
Might not get home tomorrow! May have to take an extra day off of work! Tragedy!
We’ll now have a relegation play off in mid-April. The draw is on Tuesday, and Sally will put up a note of interest thread once we know where we end up.
According to Russell Fuller, we could get Italy, Ukraine, Poland Serbia or Mexico. He (Russell Fuller) claimed, on the BBC website, that Mexico will be away. What about the other countries?
I'll be away, when they do the draw. But, I will be back sometime on Saturday.
