Pretty tight and little in it but unfortunately Andy was not able to win enough of the crucial points, hopefully keeps the intensity and can find breakthrough in 2nd. However at this point Fognini still tough. Gets the break though, keep going!

Whatever the result from here, easily the best he's played since his return. Some odd stuff from Fognini who switches from sublime to disinterested very quickly.
"A light shower" claims the commentator as Andy makes it 2 - 2.

In a strange way, if I am annoyed with Fognini, that is the surest sign yet that Andy is certainly on the way back!

Well I wasn't watching, so can't comment on the play, but that certainly feels like one that got away. So close.
An entertaining match, Andy at his (almost) best.
What an absolute shame for Andy....But heck he played amazing tennis & fought brilliantly on his comeback run...just amazing!!...On the right track Andy!!..a lot to be Proud of Andy!!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Andy will be disappointed he was serving for it twice and still didn't win. At least he is competing with high ranking players now though.
What an excruciating loss. That one will hurt. It was a great gutsy, determined fight from Andy and there must still be a lot of positives. Oh this is sad but I'm still hugely encouraged just to be even able to get a match like this. More to come!

What a match. On one hand it's a crying shame Andy didn't get a big and deserved win, but on the other it's hugely encouraging to see him play incredible tennis and go toe-to-toe with such an amazingly talented (albeit brattish) player as Fabio. I've thought for a while that literally the only thing missing for Andy is the confidence to close out matches clinically, but that's always going to be the last thing to fall into place for a player that's on a comeback. I know he'll get there and am convinced he has a lot of great tennis ahead which will include big wins. Go Andy!

Looks like Andy won one more point in the match. Disappointed just now because it was so close but we must remember that this is Andy still on his comeback so just wait till next year!

In one sense of course one that got away but really pleased with Andy's level and the great shots he displayed, perhaps some doubt in the crucial stages but the match toughness will likely come in due course. Certainly some controversy and a bit of needle towards the end- some fabulous shots from Fognini to his credit but tends to have these fiery moments where he gets under the opponent's skin.

What a tough one to lose. So close, I really thought he had it!
He just needs more confidence in closing out matches.
Such tension between the players.
His serve looked great until the tension cranked up and he seemed less confident with it.
I know he’s doing amazingly but I think this will sting!

Tough one to lose by sounds of it .... but, there's nothing like it for channeling that Mega Muzz Motivation. He'll be glad to be in a position that he's mad he lost.
What happened? All I saw on the news was Andy yelling at Foggy to shut up. I don't think I've ever seen Andy do that before.

Andy had a volley on top of the net and as he played it someone made a noise. Andy looked in the direction of where the noise came from, which was in Fabio's direction. Fabio thought Andy was looking at him so told him not to. Andy complained to Fergus about the noise but Fabio kept interrupting him, saying he should have seen the funny side, thereby admitting he had made the noise in a jokey attempt to put Andy off a shot he would make 99%. Andy told Fabio to shut up, while he discussed with Fergus. Or something like that.
