BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/50299402) - Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer drawn together in same group at ATP Finals in London

Five-time winner Djokovic and six-time winner Federer are drawn alongside Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini.

World number one Rafael Nadal is in a group with Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

Earlier on Tuesday Nadal said he plans to compete in London, despite pulling out of last week's Paris Masters.
The Spaniard said an MRI scan had confirmed a "small" abdominal injury, which forced him to withdraw from the semi-finals in Paris.

Despite pulling out, Nadal overtook Djokovic at the top of the rankings this week but could lose the position as year-end number one in London.

If the Spaniard does not play or fails to win a round-robin match at the ATP Finals, Djokovic will take top spot if he wins two group-stage matches and reaches the final.

Djokovic will also finish the year as number one if he wins the tournament and Nadal does not reach the semi-finals.

Domi Thiem! Take a bow. Beats Djok in 3. Scintillating match. Some amazing defence. Pulsating!

A truly amazing match - probably one of the best I have seen at the O2. Well done to both players but huge congratulations to Dominic Thiem!:dance::dance: To beat Federer and Djokovic back to back is no mean feat.

Superb match last night - credit to both players but Dom really lit it up. Just love his strong, all-court game. Pleased for all who had tickets - O2 matches can often be a bit lame so good to get a thriller

Certainly the best natch this far, some thrilling tennis and was happy that Thiem came through-so gutsy in the the Breaker. So the contest between Djokovic and Federer is now crucial.

A great comeback from Rafa today but Medvedev just imploded. A hard loss to take from two breaks up in the decider - that will haunt him. Tsitsipas was sensational against Zverev this evening - well done him!

JAMES4578
14-11-2019, 10:12
Certainly was a choke from Medvedev and a pity, however Nadal did ask the questions to put the Russian under pressure in the crucial stages and showed all his competitive instincts. Surprised it was so straightforward for Tsitsipas, certainly impressed but Zverev was disappointing.

Whilst we won't get anotherNadal/Fed encounter, personally quite happy Tsitsipas, Thiem and Zverev through. Hopefully entertaining semis! Rafa still got the no1 year end ranking and got the edge over Tsitsipas in a tough encounter.

I am so pleased. The Fed fans are obnoxious. I was there yesterday and the Nadal fans were absolutely fine with Stefanos - no cheering mistakes or failed serves. Fed fans are revolting and really quite weird. They should leave the O2 now and not return.
Stefanos is rather fab!

I am so impressed with Stefanos - not just because of his tennis, which has been outstanding - but because of how he held it together and saved all those break points with virtually the whole of that baying crowd against him. :grrr: They really are something else, aren't they? Not Fed's fault, of course - he's not responsible for his fans. Stef's smile is infectious and I think he's probably earned himself a few fans this week. Great stuff - I'm really looking forward to the final no matter who is on the other side of the net.

I enjoyed that match today, that is the actual tennis. I wasn't going to watch it cos I knew the crowd (or certain sections of it) would really get under my skin, but despite that, I became hooked on the match and just had to see it through! Stef saved a bucket load of break points, quite incredible! And his speech afterwards, as ever, was quite loquacious, but good to listen to! Now, if Domi can make the final tomorrow I would really love to see him win even though I do like Stef. But I feel it's Domi's turn. If it's Zverev who makes it through, then it has to be Stef all the way (for me.) Either way, lovely to have a final with not one of the 'big three' in sight, for a change. This has been a good tournament this year, second only to 2016! That was the best ever! We all know why.

yesterday when I was there, there were quite a lot of Greek fans. At one point quite a chant went up for him in Greek - it was like a mini Greek football match (I imagine - have never actually been!). So I know the TV presenters kept going on about it all being for Roger but I wasn't convinced about that. There certainly were a lot of noisy Roger ones, hence my point with similar thoughts to your own but they just tend to drown everyone else out anyway. I imagine some neutrals must have been swayed to cheering for Stefanos.

I've also enjoyed this year loads. I enjoy watching all the players - no boring big servers/impossible to returners. In the past I've often bought full days or two days at the 02 knowing I would see Andy at one point but to do this I need to cover all the time slots - pricey! I've ended up seeing lots of others people this way - some fun some not so fun. This year was the first time I went along just to watch others knowing he wouldn't be there. I was so pleased with my choice of day - yesterday. It was the best day of watching tennis - excluding watching British players - that I've ever seen live. The venue is really convenient (although super busy and full of queues) and I really don't want it to move.

Yes. I never thought I would say this, but I've actually watched the whole thing on Prime. I've not looked at BBC2 at all in the afternoons. I think Prime's whole team, from studio to commentary, is much better. No Bouncey! I presume Bouncey etc were on BBC?

I was there today. Lots of Fed fans chanting DC style ( I really feel that sort of behaviour for one player is only acceptable in their home country as then it's understandable to support your players ). However they left right after match leaving loads of folk to give Stefanie his due at the oncourt interview . Was a fabulous match - and loved seeing the Fed luvvies so discomfited. Really enjoyed Thiem as well. Been wanting to see them both for ages so was great that not only did I seee them but they won.

I've thought that since Steph first came on the scene - his whole package reminds me of Bjorn. I wonder when we see the real young Borg on the tour. I believe he's playing Juniors, isn't he?

I'm in a quandary here. I really like Tsitsipas but I like Thiem too and feel it's time that he had a big win - particularly as he beat Fed and Djoko back to back. I just hate sitting on the fence - it's so uncomfortable!!

Certainly one of the better finals, some great tennis as Stefanos takes it 7-6.2-6, 7-6. A few momentum changes throughout and exciting final set! Personally would have preferred Dom to take it but still happy for Tsitsipas to get the big win and he was the stronger in the end (Thiem had a few unfortunate errors) well done! Hopefully both make confident moves next season:clap::clap::clap:

Great final. Well done to Stefanos but hard on Domi when he had such a great week. Nice to see the crowd so into it and proving you don't need Fed there to fill the place.

BTW on Fed - I thought he looked really careworn and old (for a tennis player anyway ;))yesterday. Why on earth is he going off to play exhos in the off season. It's not like he needs the money. Surely next year has got to be his last, one last shot at the Olympic singles gold - though doubt he would win it

Rosalind

I also thought he looked like he was limping off. re South America - you can never have too much money I guess. ;) I hear Sascha is going with him so good training session for him.

I was with Themass15, it was a lovely atmosphere much better than the semi final against Federer, was great to see Stef win, although l do like Dominic as well
