Haven’t recovered from last nights yet. Never mind AM. Not sure my nerves are up to this - coward that I am.

david1610
19-10-2019, 15:27
Humbert 2-1 on serve.
First impressions are Andy might need to weave his tennis web around this opponent. C'mon Andy!
Edit: Oh! Humbert is a GEM!

david1610
19-10-2019, 15:45
Humbert breaks Andy. 2-4 C'mon Andy!

Sallydaisy
19-10-2019, 15:46
first break to Humbert, he's serving now at 4-2 up.

Teresa
19-10-2019, 15:47
AM hasn’t worked Humbert out yet.

Sallydaisy
19-10-2019, 15:51
Muzz serving to stay in the first set at 2-5.
Hits an Ace, better than the DFs he seems a tad too fond of at the moment.
Gee'ing himself up with lots of c'mons.

Jane
19-10-2019, 15:54
Oops!!

First set 6'4 to Humbert.

Stell
19-10-2019, 15:56
I thought it was 6 - 3. I'm hoping Andy can come back and win the second set.

david1610
19-10-2019, 15:57
so first set to Humbert 6-3 Hope Andy can slow things down, give him different problems to think of. C'mon Andy!
PS And more first serves please Andy!

david1610
19-10-2019, 15:58
AM hasn’t worked Humbert out yet.
Exactly! And as this is not five sets he has to quite soon!

19-10-2019, 16:01
We'll see, but I thought it was always going to take a set for Andy to do 2 things: 1, work out his (new) opponent and 2, allow time for his body to really warm up and get going.

Sallydaisy
19-10-2019, 16:09
Hold for Andy, 2-1 in the 2nd set.

Stell
19-10-2019, 16:19
At the last change of ends, the camera person seemed to be more interested in three women having a selfie. That's nothing, a few days ago I saw a woman having a selfie in front of the 'closing down' sign on the House of Fraser window.

Sallydaisy
19-10-2019, 16:19
There's the break, Andy serving at 3-1. Needs to hold...

david1610
19-10-2019, 16:24
Andy breaks but is broken back. Pity, that could have been the match changer. Still up 3-2 and can try and break again.
Oh well... c'mon Andy!

Stell
19-10-2019, 16:24
"Focus" shouts Andy at himself as Humbert gets the break back.

Teresa
19-10-2019, 16:26
I think he has done incredibly well to get this far, particularly given his mind can’t possibly be fully on the job. I would almost prefer him to lose today than against Wawrinka. Still will be grumpy mind you....!!!

With respect, I disagree with the second part. Getting to a final will mean to him he is back and that gives him the chance to experience that in a way nothing else can. Losing to Wawrinka could happen with a "normal" Andy. Losing to a player ranked 71, even playing well, will be disappointing even if not "life and death" in the great scheme of things

harriet
19-10-2019, 16:37
yes i agree with you david1610, lose in the final but get the better of this wippersnapper first.
glad Andy now in sludge, changed out of beetroot,

For a moment I thought sludge was some kind of mental state, then realised you were talking about shirt colours!!!

I can see your point, and I should have stressed, that it’s more what I would prefer, which is not necessarily the same thing as AM would.....!!!

UH is so quick around the court and striking the ball back, it's past Andy before he's upright after serving

Jane
19-10-2019, 16:53
One set all :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Teresa
19-10-2019, 16:54
Where the heck did that come from? Almost out of nowhere. 1 set all. Come on then finish it now.

david1610
19-10-2019, 16:55
All presents accepted! As the commie said, Humbert blinked and lost that game.
Let's hope Andy can take advantage in the third. Andy at 50% first serves compared to 74% for Humbert. If he can get some more free points from first serves, it will really help.
C'mon Andy!

Phewwwww bit of a gift from Humbert there but c'mon Andy for set 3 :knight:

patlowe

Oh happy days!

harriet
19-10-2019, 16:58
oh poor UH, loses the second set with a df, bummer. feel for him. still, come on Andy, UH serves to one corner and blasts the return down the line into the other corner, or else he slams it away mid court. and keep putting in second serve aces Andy

Stell
19-10-2019, 16:59
I missed the end of the second set because of a phone call from one of my cousins. I hope Andy will win the third set.

patlowe
19-10-2019, 16:59
Phewwwww bit of a gift from Humbert there but c'mon Andy for set 3 :knight:

May have been a gift, but it's Andy's presence other side of the net, threatening, ever threatening, which may have caused the donation.

david1610
19-10-2019, 17:04
Hold after 0-40. Four first serves in a row helped. Phew! C'mon Andy!

patlowe
19-10-2019, 17:05
First serve saved him there for sure.

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:06
great hold from 0-40 in very first game of set 3, should give Andy confidence, and dismay UH?

david1610
19-10-2019, 17:07
Andy breaks again with lots of UEs from Humbert. Four games on the trot for Andy. Let's consolidate. C'mon Andy!
Edit: Commie says Andy has made 11 first serves this set and he immediately serves a double. C'mon Andy!

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:13
finally aced his way to hold onto his break for a 3 - 0 lead

Stell
19-10-2019, 17:13
When Andy broke Humbert's serve, Humbert's coach seemed to be very annoyed by it. If it had happened to Andy, Andy's team would encourage him.

david1610
19-10-2019, 17:14
Given what has happened this week, I hope it is not too greedy to ask for a second kitkat! C'mon Andy!

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:18
missed the chance there for an insurance break, but just need to hold serve from now on

Sallydaisy
19-10-2019, 17:20
Andy holds for a 4-1 lead in the 3rd set.

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:20
Andy now playing UH's game against him, plus aces

david1610
19-10-2019, 17:21
Those free points from good first serves make it so less stressful. Still some work to do though. C'mon Andy!

Stell
19-10-2019, 17:22
I don't know if I'll be able to watch the final, tomorrow, as I've got to go and see my sister and brother-in-law. They've got Amazon Prime, but I don't know if they'll let me watch it.

Teresa
19-10-2019, 17:25
He seems to have switched into his “I am bored with this now, I don’t want to be out here” mood. I love him when he gets like this.

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:27
UH holds for 4-2, tho Andy pressing hard

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:31
5-2, coast next game and go flat out for the win afterwards

Andy is into a FINAL for the first time in 2.5 years - what a classy player he is!!!!!
It'll be the battle of the 'old guns' tomorrow ... Muzzah v Stanimal. What a treat.

Over and out from me, I've a Quiz to play ...

Two tricky matches in a row for Andy and he comes through them. A win over Wawrinka would be huge progress to win a title and beat a fellow multi slam winner.

Teresa
19-10-2019, 17:36
5-2, coast next game and go flat out for the win afterwards

He decided to ignore you. For the sake of my nerves, I am pleased😊

harriet
19-10-2019, 17:37
well, go Andy, broke UH again to win in three after losing the first set too. roll on sunday, keep rolling on Andy!

That was enthralling. I really love watching Andy take on an opponent for the first time. How he gradually and methodically works out how to get the better of his man. And Umbert certainly was a challenge. I fervently hoped he (Ugo) wouldn't keep that standard up for the whole match, but eventually Andy got in his head and he couldn't maintain it. That was one powerful show from our man. I'm so pleased he will be playing Stan. No need to spend time here working out his man! He knows Stan so well. Well done Andy!! Lovely Sat a'noon entertainment.:clap::bravo:

It was tough for a while and took a bit of time for Andy to suss Humbert out but once he had saved the break points early in the 3rd never really looked back, a confident display in the crucial stages! Obviously Ugo gave him some help though and could not sustain the challenge. Whatever happens really positive for Andy (though of course a few nervy moments along the way) , not sure if he will have enough left for Stan but should give it his best shot.:cheer::cheer::cheer:

Stan will be a bit more of a challenge but Andy does know how to play him. Whatever the outcome, there will be ranking points and his name on the final board....and did we ever dream that would happen again.
What a guy ! After the tearful way he started the year I am so happy for him
