Oh dear, such a shame really hope Andy starts to feel better soon, seems to be taking a long time:crying:
Sad for us, but after last years AO any matches he plays/ has played between then and his eventual retirement are a bonus.
I imagine after the years of struggling with the hip, a lot of his other joints have been subjected to extra strain, so other injuries are to be expected.
(My left hip has always been dodgy, and my walking odd. As a consequence I have now got Osteo arthritis in both knees and the other hip, and will need all of them replaced over the next couple of years).
I heard about Andy pulling out of the Aussie Open on radio five live. Russell Fuller believed it was something Andy did during his DC match and it just needs time to heal.

It seems to be taking a long time to heal. Fingers crossed....
To me, it's as simple as this. When it's healed it's healed. Until then we do what we've been doing these past 2 years or so...we wait. We wait in hope and expectation for Andy to be back on court fully fit. I'll wait as long as it takes. He's absolutely doing the right thing, disappointing as it is.

obviously we were all looking forward to seeing Andy in a slam again, however the injury taking some time to heal and clearly Andy would not be ready for the Australian Open. Whilst dsappointing this is the case but the longer term is more important for Andy.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate the new "Davis Cup" more. Poor Andy. The Australian is serious unfinished business for him and he'll be disappointed to miss this shot at it, even if not a favourite to win (that said all players being rusty after Christmas break would have levelled things a bit). Get well soon Andy, and as others have said your fans will wait as long as it takes.
It’s a shame that Andy won’t be playing as we are going to be there for day 1 and 2! Still it is important for him so get really fit before he starts playing competitively. We’ll be there to support Dan, Cam and Kyle and Jo if she’s fit. Sadly I don’t think the doubles will have started in those first two days.

Due to a withdrawal Heather Watson is now in the Main Draw. Excellent for her. Paws crossed for a decent draw.

Dan basically admitted he shouldn't have played in Adelaide last week, but feels he can't yet take weeks off like this because of his ranking. BBC alluded to the money side of playing in the ATP Cup & Adelaide, that it earned him £192k and a rise in the rankings.

Dan could also have caught a bit of a bug or something. Players do not always disclose this.

So gutting for Jamie/Neal in the doubles but so tight in the end! A few good matches in the singles the past few days , though disappointed both Tsitsipas and Goffin out (David lost to Rublev mind you) . Wawrinka was not long on court as Isner retired, looked like it might be straights for Kygrios but Khachanov won breaker and now 4-5 in 4th. Russian takes another breaker and we're into 5th!

Krygios takes it in the end, final set TB had just about everything as Australian took it 10-8. Certainly drama and some exciting points, Khachanov so nearly completed amazing fightback but Nick found a way.
That was a stunning match. No final could even come close to that! Whilst I was so sorry for Karen, I'm so pleased for Nick. Despite some of his antics which I don't condone, I've always had a soft spot for him. Somewhere underneath all the bluster is a decent soul.
Oh, and Sascha quietly progressing under the radar. Happy for him. Hope he's turning a corner. He's had a tough time.

No Rosalind, Nick had cut his hand after a fall and went to get the towel himself as he didn't want the ball kid to handle a towel with his blood on it. The umpire didn't see this, so consequently issued a time violation. Nick was trying to explain this to the umpire. He was showing consideration for the ball kid.

Looks like it will be fairly easy for Federer now, took 2nd 6-1 and 4-0 in 3rd. Fucsovic really needs to get going again to have any chance of extending the match. Overnight seems it was routine for Djokovic, Raonic was a straight sets winner over Clic and Sandgren put out Fognini in 4.

Certainly another great match , thought it was similar to their Wimbledon encounter. Nick competed very well, thought chance slipped away at end of 3rd set TB but came close again in 4th. Nadal though seem to find another level when it mattered and put the pressure on. Hope though Kygrios can apply himself more often, did though was fairly disciplined in Australia and of course to his credit that he is raising money along with others for the bushfires.
Good win for Wawrinka coming back from 2 sets to 1 down to get the better of Medvedev 6-2 in 5th, pleased to see Thiem making progress and did not have too much trouble with Monfils (though hoped for a bit more from the French star)
Just wish Kyrgios could play like this and have the atttitude he has had at the AO all the time. Yesterday commies were saying his match against Khachinov was the match of the tournament so far.
Can anyone tell me who the guy is wearing glasses & cap in Nick's box is? .... It's driving me crazy lol!

Nadal had warm words for Kyrgios after their match at Melbourne Park, encouraging his younger rival to keep playing with the same "very positive attitude".
The world number one added Kyrgios has the talent to be "one of the best in the world".
In response to Nadal's advice, Kyrgios said: "I appreciate it. But I already know that. I've known that for the last four years.
"But the trouble for me is being able to actually just produce the same attitude over and over again. Hopefully I can keep doing it."
Kyrgios says the emotion he felt at the death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant motivated his fightback against Nadal in their thrilling last-16 match on Rod Laver Arena.

Just a few match points ? SEVEN. And he's not 100%. And was 2 sets to one down. Not a bad effort for a 38yr old.
I heard Russell Fuller, earlier on radio five live, that Roger Federer had saved seven match points and it had gone to a deciding set even though Roger was suffering from a bad back. When I looked at the BBC's website, Roger had won the match.

Well Federer was ailing and sandgren tightened, still for Roger was not going to down without a fight and did have the stength to come through. Djokovic only real trouble though was with his contact lenses, even if 3rd a bit tighter with Raonic, can only see that going one way if Federer does take to the court.

Thiem into final as he takes 4th breaker 7-4, (perhaps a bit fortunate when had advantage on replayed point), however was the stronger in the end. We seen a lot of quality in the 4th set, sacha played his part but I think better player to face Djokovic. 2 saved set points in 3rd may have been key.

Enjoyable contest , some fabulous points - thought was not the outcome I really wanted. Was not watching live so did not have internet on earlier. Thought Thiem had real chance with Djokovic floundering but knew the Serb might still find a way. Obviously Nole found another level but thought Dominic could not quite sustain his performance and wavered on some of the key moments. of course possibly crucial moments were failing to break early in 4th and missing the break points in the 5th. Thought it was combination of mental and physical pressure (had spent 6 hours more on court and did slow a bit , also going for too risky shots at times)
Thiem obviously improved and has shot of slam but needs to step up further (Djokovic and Nadal particularly still likely to be strong in slams) . Obviously younger guns will win at some point (though Thiem 27 in April) but they must take it to the top stars (even if this has been such a strong era in men's tennis)
