View Full Version : Robin Soderling
It's a real shame that mono has kept Robin off the tour for so long. Hope he can return soon after the AO.

Report out of Sweden that Robin Soderling will miss the Australian Open. http://bit.ly/uP79zQ (h/t @olerafa)
Hopefully. The report does say that he is getting better. He was never one of my favourite players, but I don't like to hear of any player being kept out by illness or injury.
Not my favourite either but this has been really tough for him - that's a long time to be out - I really hope it isn't a repeat of Ancic.

Not one of my favourite players but I too feel sorry for Robin - hope too that it isn't a repeat of Ancic as well. Shame for Robin when he was playing well and rising up the rankings.
Yes I really hope it's not going to be bad as Ancic's case - it was so sad how he had to retire early. Just goes to show how lucky Federer and Roddick were to only have mild cases of mono as it's a terrible illness for sportspeople to have.
It's a real shame for this to happen to Robin just when he was doing so well - he'd already won four titles this year before he had to stop playing in August. I like watching him play so hope he can return to full fitness. It's a good idea to miss Australia if he's not yet 100% as the heat and humidity there are really energy-sapping anyway - maybe he'll be able to return in Rotterdam.
Update from Robin on twitter (http://www.twitter.com/rsoderling):
Hello my friends. I am very sorry for being away for so long and for not giving many updates but my recovery has been longer than expected. I am feeling better with each day but it will still take some time before I can start practicing in full speed. My goal is to start with practice in January and I hope for tournament comeback in February but at this stage it is hard to know when and where. I hope my body will allow me to do that. I will try to give you more updates. I love reading your messages and appreciate your support and encouragement very much.

Hopefully he can come back stronger than ever like Sam Stosur (she didn't have mono but she had lyme's disease).
I read somewhere that he's likely to come back for the February Davis Cup ties.

Mono is a very debilitating illness and unfortunately Robin may never be fully fit again . Hope I'm wrong but I think it's a real possibility

Latest update from Robin (http://www.facebook.com/RobinSoderlingTennis):
Hello friends and fan.
I know it has been a while since my last post but I have been focusing on my recovery. I was hoping to be ready for tournaments in February but unfortunately I am not there yet. The good news is that the symptoms of the mono like sore throat and fever are gone, but for some reason my body still cannot handle intense training, I get very tired when I do something physical. I am working with my medical team to understand why and what the next step is. My full focus of each day is to get healthy and strong. Hopefully it won't be much longer but I cannot compete until I am 100% fit.
Thank you very much for your support and your encouragement. It gives me much needed energy and motivation.
From what he says here, I'd be surprised if he's back for IW/Miami. I just hope the mono doesn't prevent him coming back at all.
What a shame - I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Sounds very much like Ancic - I hope it doesn't have the same result.

Some nice news from Robin Soderling ...........
Robin Söderling @RSoderling (https://twitter.com/#%21/RSoderling)
Hi everyone. I have the best news. Jenni an I are becoming parents in late September. We are both very happy and excited
When it was announced he'd be holding a press conference today many thought he'd be announcing his retirement from tennis because of the ongoing mono that he's been suffering from. However, last week he said he just wasn't sure when he'd be back.
Great that the Soderlings have something to celebrate. Doesn't sound as though he'll be back on the circuit any time soon though.

Awww bless! No name yet? I heard the tennistv commies discussing it this morning. Too funny.
Congrats to them both. He hasn't been totally idle whilst away from the court then..........;)
Former world number four Robin Soderling is eager for another crack at life on the ATP Tour but admits he may not win his battle with mononucleosis.
The viral infection has sidelined the Swede since the summer of 2011, halting a career which had seen him reach two French Open finals.
The nature of the illness means he has good and bad days, which he concedes is hard to live with.

A real pity, but cant honestly see him getting back into serious contention. However, if he enjoys playing and wants to try all power to him
