Hi, thought we all to have a thread to chat whilst chaos reigns around us. Hope folks are well. In the absence of tennis and any other sport I am going to try to do some painting. What are other people up to?

The only vague bright spot in all this is it’s almost certain the Olympics are going to end up being cancelled, so Feddykins won’t get the final chance for a Gold Medal. Clutching at straws here. I hasten to add I don’t want the Olympics cancelled for that reason, but it would be a fringe benefit.

Anyone else going to re watch Andy Murray matches?

I started working from home today - went quite well, had lots of video calls with colleagues but it is going to be strange over a long period. Only a few of us are working from home this week but it's going to be rolled out to nearly everyone by the end of the week by the look of it.

Will definitely fit in some Andy replays at the weekends if we're going to be at home. Hubby has underlying conditions so we're keeping a low profile for sure

Similar to Lidl, Tesco will have one hour periods 3 mornings a week for vulnerable and elderly to have priority to shop. I may use that rather than online as I was intending so more delivery slots will be available for those who really need them.
I had a mad idea earlier today when hearing about the problems of restaurants with staff to pay but no customers. How about the staff still prepare meals and have a delivery service to nearby customers? Ok, I know it is mad and there would be many laws against it relating to food licensing/hygiene etc. but it was just a thought for some income for them.

I have never felt bad about my dislike of Fed. I think he is and always has been a complete (rude word of your choice). I did feel bad about my dislike of Berdych. That was always completely irrational.

A couple of our local restaurants are doing that. I feel really bad for them. They have worked so hard to set up a new and very successful business, and are now clobbered with this. Ditto our tiny craft beer pub, called The Hop Inn.

I had to contact Ticketmaster about my ticket for Tutankhamun exhibition and got told that if they don't reopen, after the 31st of this month, I will get a refund. Also, I've got to see a doctor tomorrow morning. I had a NHS breast screening, last Thursday, and got told my left breast wasn't normal and it might have an infection.

I took advantage today of Sainsburys opening hour for over 70s and vulnerable people. I was really impressed by the organisation and calm atmosphere after hearing all the horror stories about selfish buying that has been going on. On the other hand I was sad to have to cancel a trip up north that was booked for Easter week. Amazingly the coach company is still planning to go ahead with it as of now. I wasn't offered a refund so have accepted use of a holding account with a view to picking another holiday before the end of this year - hopefully. If the company goes down the tubes between times I'll claim off my credit card company as I'm sure the travel insurance won't want to know as I cancelled, albeit on government advice.

I have e-mailed them suggesting they get one of their staff to do a walk through and put it online. Would be better than nothing. I suggest you contact them about your tickets. The government was already recommending vulnerable people didn’t go out then.

I tried the Tesco special hour earlier today but I do not think I will go frequently. Although quieter than recently it was busier than I had hoped and not really possible to keep 2 metres distance at all times. There were still lots of empty shelves - no loo or kitchen rolls but I did see my first eggs in a couple of weeks! I bought most of what I wanted - but had completely forgotten (not usually in so early) that you cannot purchase alcohol before 10am!

I’m increasingly being disgusted by those selfish people who think it is alright to go to the supermarkets and strip it bare with no thought for anyone else, and those shop keepers who triple prices for goods which scarce. I still cannot believe that some people can sink so low as to break into a food bank and take everything. What is the matter with some people, thank God we still hear of how many people on the other hand are helping others in need.
Hopefully there will be a way to stop the panic buyers and allow everyone be able to buy what they need. Rant over.

Good morning folks. Going to take Lucifer the Bengal to the vet this morning. Realised I haven't got any flea and worm treatment in stock, and am running out of painkillers for the dog. They won’t issue the treatment without seeing him. I don’t think they understand social isolating.

The cat will not be happy, but we all have to do our bit. I have cut his wet food down from 1.5 sachets to 1. He has plenty of biscuits though.

Today’s task is to write my Pandemic Activity List

45 minute exercise session
30 minutes house work

Rest

Garden or DIY

It crazy in supermarket for whole March. Yesterday went Asda lucky it wasn't too bad. Shelves still empty toilet roll (lucky we don't need any), nearly all anti-bac wipes except Asda own brand (we take one since ours just finished), tinned soup and pasta/rice but everything else esp fruit and veg is fully stocked so we managed get everything we need for normal shopping. Improvement and hope it will continue improve and people calm down and finally get empty shelves full again.

In my local stores the loo roll and cleaning product aisles are empty along with frozen fruit and veg but everything else looks OK. My husband thinks this is going to last for three months. OY VEY!!!

And I know we are all supposed to stay at least 10 feet away from the next person but it is so strange for me to see this esp. on a walk with the dog in the middle of a virtually empty country trail. A group of three people turned their backs on me as I walked past them with my dog. I felt like a leper tbh. It is what it is.

Dave & I went for our one allowed walk at lunchtime today. We live in a very rural area, only met two people on a 4 mile walk - in both cases we walked on opposite sides of the road, but we all smiled and said hello! I can’t believe people turned away, Fiona! We’re all supposed to be in this together...

Haven’t been to the supermarket since Sunday, but need to go tomorrow as we’re short of bread and milk. No idea what it’s going to be like after the latest advice. I’ll try to keep the visit as brief as possible. Would be good to get handwash, sanitizer and paracetamol, but they never seem to have any

We're pretty well stocked up but bread and milk are the hard ones to keep on top off, especially with 4 of us in the house. We've just had to open the 6 pinter of milk we froze so need to top up our supply in the next few days. All the supermarket online delivery slots are booked up in our area for the next 3 weeks. They really do need to increase capacity but I guess they're limited by the delivery vehicles available

Teresa
24-03-2020, 22:21
I am fortunate that I don’t like Milk. I keep bread in the fridge and eat it toasted. It lasts about three weeks that way. I got three loaves last week, and they should last until the end of next week. How are people managing dogs and children in all this?

I know why we have to do it, but by goodness it’s grim. Nothing like as much as the medical staff and key workers, but fir those who live on our own it’s horrible.

It must be just awful for people on their own. I volunteer for a non profit so I drive seniors to their medical appointments and grocery shopping and we're not allowed to do that anymore. So I am so worried about the seniors all by themselves - and what about those who had specialist Dr appointments? However, today, the agency has come up with a solution: online shopping order that the drivers pick up and deliver to the door of the senior. Better than nothing.

Supermarket wasn’t too bad today. I went fairly early, about 8am and it was reasonably quiet. Most people in there were doing their best to keep the 2m distance, and being polite and kind about it. There were a few people wandering aimlessly without really noticing where anyone else was but it was largely fine. No milk, very little bread and as always no loo roll or hand sanitizers, but most other things were well stocked. Certainly plenty of fresh fruit and veg.

The queue was long and slow, but that was mainly because only half the tills were open that early. It snaked down one aisle, up the next and down a third where there was someone waiting to direct you to a till. All the way along this part there was tape on the floor marking 2m sections, so you could only move forward into the next one when the person in front moved out of their box. A bit surreal, but they seem to be doing the best they can.

Hoping everyone else is safe and well and coping!

xx

As many of you know we live full-time in our motorhome traveling the USA. This winter we have been camphosting in a military campground in Jacksonville, Florida. It means we keep an eye on the campground, meet and greet arrivals and answer questions. Its a great way to meet people and we get our site for free.
A lot of campgrounds over here are closing down, ours has closed to new arrivals but the people here can stay, thank goodness. There is a food store, take out food, gas(petrol) station etc. all on base. The store has been out of the normal stuff, toilet rolls, sanitizing stuff and its a matter of timing it right for milk, eggs etc. We have enough food for a couple of weeks maybe but so far have been able to replenish what we need as we need it.
There is a chance the base will lockdown when we will be unable to use any base amenities, food store etc. so will have to go off base for that. We are fine with that as we realize the active duty have to have precedence here. They are saying we will still be allowed to stay and I hope that is the case as we don't have anywhere else to go and the campground situation is dire.
We have our small abode on wheels and are self sufficient so will just hunker down. We are practicing the six foot distance rule and so far aren't going out unless we have to.
Stay safe and well everyone. Take Care.

Some of you may remember I had a nasty fall whilst on holiday in Corfu at the end of last September breaking 4 ribs and my pelvis; after 3 weeks in a Greek clinic I came home in an air ambulance and then spent 2 weeks in my local hospital. Slow progress but finally fully mobile, back driving and able to get out and about and what happens? - coronavirus happens and I'm told to stay in! On my own and so glad I have my two dogs for company. Life is different but we're in this together and hopefully will survive;could be ready for the funny farm by the end of it though! Keep well, keep safe everyone. xx

The supermarkets really need to up their capacity both with delivery slots and vehicles but also the server capacity on their sites. Took me 4 hours last night to complete an online shop with Asda for my mum. She is 80 and has a heart condition so really shouldn't go out. Once I finally got into the site it crashed a few times and when I got to the checkout it put me in an online queue. Finally completed shop at midnight after starting it at 7.30pm

Had to go for a blood test this morning. Dropped some tea bags, milk, soap and an almost full box of latex gloves off for the district nurses as I reckon they are at the bottom of the queue for protective gear. Went to butcher was empty, so headed straight in. Of course being dense I didn’t see the queue. Got what henceforth will be known as the “Coronavirus Death Stare”. Was suitably contrite. Was delighted to get a bone for the dog. Then bread from the baker. Need to support local businesses at the moment. A friend was in town at the same time. So armed with a couple of bits of cake and tins of coke we adjourned with the dog to a local park, and whilst maintaining a 10 foot distance at all times had a little chat.

It really lifted my spirits having a little bit of social contact.

Had a Skype meet up with a former teaching colleague yesterday. She is an ex nurse and was able to diagnose my style for me. So all in all a successful couple of days.

Now waiting for a training call from the local volunteer team. Have volunteered to make phone calls, and write letters plus do a bit of shopping for elderly people stuck in isolation.

How are folks.

In Canada we don't as yet have a limit to being outdoors just as long as we stay away from others and don't congregate. So I am taking my dog for walks twice a day and sticking to the least used nature trails. But I will say I am finding it hard to see people purposefully move away from us wherever we go, luckily not often as I don't go to the popular places. I know it's not personal but it still bothers me. I guess I will get over it coz it's the least of anyone's real concerns tbh.

Our shops are OK so far. They have brought I strict rules so no one can buy more than one of toilet roll or the popular items. And they are only letting a certain amount of people in to the stores. We still have takeout/takeaway and drive thru services, no sit ins anyway except Starbucks.

And we have a car so we can drive anywhere we want to get away. But I do feel so bad for people who don't and can't and are stuck.

Hi folks, checking in. Been a vey strange 3 weeks, 2 weeks of distance teaching- we aren't using any video type teaching as there was no time to train children and staff so spending lots of time creating slides to emulate what I would say and demonstrate alongside tasks. A very hectic 2 weeks . As I have P7s they are independent and tech savvy so majority have been on our virtual classroom every day . We are a 2 stream school so myself and our NQT have been sharing the responsibility for 60 P7s . It's been hectic as they are online and different times of the day looking for support and sometimes just a wee chat and to touch base. Trying really hard to maintain their sense of belonging to the school as they may have abruptly ended their time at primary. (we have promised if that' s the case that we will still organise official leavers events for them). As I live alone I must confess to being grateful for their 'online presence and enthusiasm'. we are now half way through their spring break so have been planning lessons for the return next week and teaching my family to use online video calls - this really made my mums day when it was her birthday last week and is helping her feel better about the imminent arrival of her first grand child (not me! my brother. So excited to be an auntie soon but hopefully won't need to wait too long for a cuddle). So grateful for internet and social media to keep in touch with friends - even had a video call from American friends yesterday (checking what wine I wanted them to bring to the Duomo in milan for andrea Bocellis concert - where wd we be right now without a sense of humour!). Bought a skipping rope - and chalk to draw a net on my house wall- and awaiting a tennis trainer - a ball on an elastic - to try keeping up fitness and tennis (I'd say where wd we be without Amazon - but my aunt's answer is 'better off' lol) and taking up knitting again to try and make some baby things. So keeping busy, enjoying the sun - still got loads of tv to catch up on! Hope everyone is staying safe and here's to having some tennis to chat about - and maybe one day meet up at - someday soon! Take care #staysafe #stayintouch

I have decided I just don't have the right kind of brain for jigsaws. So I bake instead. We did our first family Zoom videoconference the other day with my husbands' family from here in Canada, New Zealand and India. It was pretty cool BUT so many screens mean people talk over others and it's hard to follow conversations but still awesome we have this amazing technology at home!

I did a zumba class on Zoom last week and I found it odd being able to see all the other people I didn't know.

Austria announced, yesterday, they're allowing all sports to be played again. So, we should be able to talk about the tennis soon WimbledonWestie.

There are doubts over the US Open at any rate, though decision will be taken in June. https://www.ubitennis.net/2020/04/uncertainty-leaves-us-open-limbo/ (https://www.ubitennis.net/2020/04/uncertainty-leaves-us-open-limbo/)

Some reports suggest playing behind closed doors pretty unlikely

Saw the above yesterday. Surely Autumn would be too late weather wise for it to be played.

I would think its highly unlikely the US Open will proceed. As the article says New York is one of the worst hit areas in the States. I think it would be a little reckless to even bring players and staff in to even play without spectators. I guess its still a way in the future so anything possible though. I just don't want to see anything rushed as much as I miss watching tennis. Lives are more important.

Hi guys :)

I have been swapping jigsaws with friends....had enough already! I love them but there is no excuse to have a break from them at the moment so my eyes are square. My hubby got a 'vulnerable' which didn't change much really. we are staying away from people apart from a 2 mile walk each day which we can do without seeing anyone.

Having been using zoom for a church table quiz each saturday night which is great craic and Whatsapp for Sunday morning church.

My brother has just now started asking when he is going to 'work' but then he is quite happy to play his music or watch Dallas. We've had a week of Christmas music twice with a week of Dallas in between!

Missing hugs and tennis here!

I went to the British import store yesterday to get 50% off Easter eggs and I picked up a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle on British chocolate bars of the 80s. Right up my street.

My niece, Audrey, is loving having not been at school for the last four weeks or so. She, now, doesn't get up until the middle of the morning and then spends the rest of the day on her computer chatting to her friends.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all as well as can be expected in these crazy times. It feels good to be able to get back on here - I've had a few non-virus related things to deal with over the last few months but all good now! Not an awful lot to say other than take care everyone, remember that only the very worst news makes the headlines rather than the many recoveries, and nothing, however bad, lasts forever. Sending my love and best wishes to you all xxx

Hello everyone, hope that you are all safe and well. I haven't been on here for a while as mostly on Twitter and Facebook these days. Like everyone I'm missing tennis and Andy but looking forward to the tournament later this month on Prime. I'm fine in my isolation and not planning to venture out any time soon. Hoping for better days soon. Love and best wishes to you all. XX

Hello again! Hope you're all well. Fingers crossed that end of lockdown is in sight. Things are ok with me despite a couple of nasty events - my poor aunt had a fairly bad bout of the virus (Janet, who some of you know from DC) and my poor little dog Rosie was badly attacked by a couple of very aggressive out of control dogs. So not the most pleasant few weeks since I last posted, but both are fine now thank goodness. Here's to better times ahead, starting with seeing Andy and the other Brits on court today! Keep well everyone xxx

Resurfacing here after a quiet time away. Found it difficult to cope with all the WhatsApp, zooms, facetimes etc so cut back on internet time. Hope everyone has survived without too much trouble. Looking forward to re-engaging and this week should prove a real stepping stone to enjoying tennis again. Will read back through this thread but having just seen Rosiebear's message, now wishing all the best to your aunt and your little dog. Best wishes to all on here.

Sorry to hear Rosiebear, hopefully your Aunt is improving and your dog is a bit better. Been ok myself , whilst the lockdown may have been tough still some risks as restrictions ease (happening at different pace throughout uk)

Hello everybody! Although I've not been posting much, I've certainly not forgotten y'all. I usually take a wee peek on here most days, but my typing fingers have become very lazy! Getting them limbered up again with the promise of some tennis featuring Andy on the way!

I hope you have all survived lockdown, and like butterflies, are now slowly emerging from your chrysalises. I'm still nowhere near my old 'normal', can't decide if we are still in partial lockdown or not! I'm treating it as that anyway. The time has gone by amazingly quickly. The good weather has been a godsend and I've managed to turn out Shirley's acclaimed shortbread. During lockdown, Murraynators produced an e recipe book, proceeds going to Judy's Foundation, and in there Shirley shared her shortbread recipe. It's so good! Lots of other goodie recipes too!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Battle of the Brits. A showcase for all our great talent and so well thought out and presented. I'm cautiously looking forward to the upcoming tennis from the US followed by the European clay. I hope it all goes smoothly and that everyone keeps safe and well. In the meantime, continue to keep well and safe everybody. I'll be back!!
;)

Rehoming places won’t rehome at Christmas. Too many dogs are abandoned again in the New Year. I doubt you will find a puppy. They are selling for stupid prices at the moment £3000 plus for a cross breed.

Wait until after COVID the rescue centres will be full.

I was advised, last Tuesday, to apply for a blue disabled badge for my dad. I filled in a form and sent it off to my county council last Thursday. Does anyone know how long the application could take? I've received an email from them saying they want £10 for their administration costs. Is this normal?

Yes. There is always an admin charge. £10 sounds about right.
