Congratulations to the Scottish women's curling team who have just won gold at the European Championships in Russia, beating the, until now, unbeaten defending champions 8-2 in the final! A very young team - lead by 21 year old Eve Muirhead. Well done girls!! :cheer::cheer::cheer:
Why am I not surprised that there was no mention of it on breakfast television this morning? Am I being paranoid in thinking that if it had been an English team or even if the girls had been playing under the banner of GB, as they do in the Olympics, that much more would have been made of this brilliant win?

The official tournament website, which has been poor throughout, has the score the other way around...
I agree - the website had been poor - as has the TV coverage. The coverage this morning was extremely badly edited but, thankfully, it didn't take away from the girls win - well done them!
As an ex curler I was really thrilled for them, silver last year, this year gold. The skip is only 21 and the third is still a junior so hopefully great things to come from them.

Further congratulations required for Eve Muirhead and her rink of Claire Hamilton, Vicki Adams and Anna Sloan who have just won the world title in Latvia, surely making them favourites for the Olympic title in Sochi next year!

My Dad will be over the moon about this - he's 77 but still curls weekly - and he follows the Scottish teams avidly :big grin:
:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo: Well done Evie and the girls - fantastic result for Team Scotland!!!! yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
Congratulations to Team Scotland , who just won the bronze medal at the mens world curling championships !!!
Yes, we'll done the guys. They will be disappointed at missing out on the gold medal match but a medal is a medal!
They chucked away the Page 1/2 play-off, but were nowhere near the Canadians in the semi-final.
Hate the way Eurosport covers quite a lot of the round robin games, but none of the play-offs/ semis/ finals.
I played quite a lot with one of the Scotland team a few years ago, so would especially love them to get there some day.
Sweden takes home the Gold Medal
Canada the Silver
Well done to the Scottish women's team who remain unbeaten after 7 matches at the Round Robin stage of the European Championships being held at Braehead this week. With only 2 matches remaining in the Round Robin, the girls are guaranteed to qualify for the play-offs to decide the medals. Sadly, the men are not doing so well - after 2 losses yesterday, they are presently 3-4 down and probably unlikely now to qualify.
Oh dear - having won all nine of their Round Robin matches, the Scottish women lost their semi-final and can now only play for the bronze medal. :crying: Evie and the girls must be absolutely gutted!

Great news, well done Elsie!
Elise Christie has become a triple world champion after victory in the 1000m, 1500m and the overall title at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Rotterdam.
On Saturday, she became the first British woman to win a world title when she took gold in the 1500m.
And on Sunday the 26-year-old added a gold in the 1000m, bronze in the 3000m and claimed the overall title.
Congratulations to Elise. Hope she does as well in the Winter Olympics next year in Korea.

Well done to Elise for not giving up after her disastrous Winter Olympics in Sochi. I think it's the first time we've had a speed skating champion since Wilf O'Reilly in the 1980s - remember him?

Great for Elsie, well done!
One hundred days to go until the start of the winter Olympics. I heard, this morning on radio five live, we'll have sixty competitors and hope to do better than last time when we won four medals.
Really looking forward to this event and hope GB will be successful.
Hope the political situation in that part of the world does not develop in such a way as to prevent the Winter Games taking place.
I've just learnt about Russia being banned from next year's winter Olympics.
I'm very pleased to hear it!
North and South Korea will have a united flag at the winter Olympics.
Enjoying the World ski cross championships - on BBC red button.
Well done Woodsie for winning gold in the ski slopestyle.
Congratulations to Woodsy. :bravo: :GBflag:
