If anyone want play FTM (Forecast the Match) again it is up.
I looking forward to this. Will need check how watch it.
Andy has just walked on court.
After a lengthy first hold, the next two service games have been straightforward. 2-1* Andy.
Just started watching. My stress levels are already through the roof.

Nishioka is good!
Yes he is. Andy doesn't look 100% settled in yet.
Just had a time violation (shot clock in action).
*15-40, 30-40 and Nishioka breaks ...
Andy not looking comfortable. Opponent very talented. Andy needs to shorten the rallies or he'll be run ragged.
Much better serving. I've had it on pause so just at 5-4

Nishioka takes the first set 6'4

Nishioka seems to be able to rally for ever. Andy is going to have to find a way to put him out of his comfort zone. First set to Nishioka. C'mon Andy!
Nishioka is very good at getting the ball high over the net at an awkward height for Andy.

Gulp.
Well, a quick easy 3 set win was not really going to cut it after all we've been through to get back to a GS.
Cmon Muzz!
Andy down a break in set 2 already...
Not enjoying this very much :crying: Come on Andy!!!

Not sure what Andy can do except hang on and try and find some weaknesses. C'mon Andy! :)
He is my favourite player and always will be, but I have never thought the hip would be up to long term singles, much less 5 set Grand Slam matches. I wish he would see sense. That’s not me being negative, I just can see him destroying his hip. I wish he would focus on Doubles. This is painful.
JAMES4578
01-09-2020, 17:16
Andy being outplayed so far, Nishioka finding right balance of defence and attack and Andy struggling somewhat to keep him at bay. However still a long way to go.

If this was a wagon, I think 2 of the wheels would be off.... need to get them back on ASAP...

Muzza is going to have to do a Nozza.
Make that a double break...

I've had to put it off for a bit. Feels really sad, can't put my finger on it but he's just not playing well at all right now

Andy just not on his game and Nishioka able to take it to him , at least on the board this set. Obviously can come back but feel it will not be so easy.

Breaks to 2-4. Hopefully sowing a few seeds of doubt! C'mon Andy!

We've all been through this before ...
... never write Andy Murray off until the Scoreboard says he's lost!
When I saw the draw for the US I read his opponent as Nishikori, then relaxed a little when I realised it wasn't. I have just googled Nishioka and he has had some good wins. It is proving difficult for me to watch; have to keep turning it off but then compelled to go back to it. Just don't feel his body is responding totally and who can blame it? I agree with Teresa's comments and have done for a long time. My heart goes out to him. x

What a moment to break a string .....
And now down a break in the third.
JAMES4578
01-09-2020, 18:02
Most unfortunate, gave away a bit too much earlier in set though. Still far from over, a strong start in the 3rd will at least give him a chance-come on! oh no break down again- uphill battle.

Bit of a nightmare this
The sooner this is over the better as far as I am concerned. I don’t blame him for wanting to try, and I think perhaps he had to try, but hopefully this will show him the futility of it. Teddy must only be about a year old now. It’s far more important for him to be able to kick a ball about with his son, than fight this particular battle. Doubles or coaching needs to be the way forward.
He has managed to break back. Can he hold now?

This has been sad to watch. Frustrating and upsetting. I keep thinking if Andy sorts his first serve, eliminates the unforced errors he's git a chance. Sounds simple but at least he's ahead now. Come on Andy! ##Alwaysbelieve

Some first serves being called faults by line judges don't help! Electronic calling better.

It has not been pretty but Andy found way back here, hopefully can put further pressure on Nishioka.
Yes. Although his opponent has played very well, very happy Andy has at least put his opponent under some pressure and in a five setter.... C'mon Andy!
JAMES4578
01-09-2020, 18:38
Anyway Andy saves break point to lead 5-4- come on! Line judges only on 2 show courts, don't know why they did not go for electronic everywhere!
Andy’s serves have definitely been under par and he doesn’t seem to have his whole heart in this match. Is he being extra cautious and just coasting to see how his hip - and fitness levels - hold out, I wonder? Who knows what’s going through his head. He’s looking lack-lustre. I agree with those of you who say how good it would be to see him concentrate on doubles. Doubles are such fun. This match certainly isn’t fun to watch at all.

01-09-2020, 18:49
Well at least he is asking a question of his opponent. Waiting for a good first serve on those ad points was... torture.
Anybody else noticed the strangeness of the "audience" being his tennis peers as the top seeds have been give corporate boxes to rest, eat, presumably to lessen the numbers elsewhere. C'mon Andy! :)

So no disrespect to Nishioka but this isn't all him... Andy struggling with the basics too often and i'm delighted (and a little surprised) to see him get the set!! Great fighting spirit in the tie break.
JAMES4578
01-09-2020, 19:06
Andy stepping it up with a bit more agression , needs more of that to dictate play a bit a bit more. Andy has a shot though!
So glad Andy's taken a set off him, hope it will give him a bit of a lift and hope for the 4th.
david1610
01-09-2020, 19:21
1-1 Was that my imagination or was that last first serve a 3/4 serve. If so, more please!
I feel at times in this match there is the battle between Andy and his opponent and Andy and his body, which makes it so hard. C'mon Andy!
Sallydaisy
01-09-2020, 19:46
Nishioka holds for 5-4. Andy to serve to stay in the match after the change of ends.
Well, here we go.
Andy serving to stay in the match at 5-4*.
JAMES4578

A couple of poor volleys from Andy and Nishioka has a match point...

Some courageous play from Andy, even if Nishioka faltered just a bit. Treatment for his toe now, however hopefullly not too much of a hinderance. As determined as ever and Murray could find a way again, come on!

Such a gutsy display from Andy in wearing Nishioka down in the end and coming up with fabulous play when it counted, done it the hard way but still such a satisfying victory! Nishioka had chances but could not quite capitalise, credit though for his performance. Fabulous. Anything Cam can do, Andy can do better  Bit of a slow, almost listless start, but there was a point in the 3rd where Andy scrambled to hit an outrageous forehand around the net post: he didn't win that point but I thought yeah, he really wants this enough, he'll fight hard. Speechless to be honest. Remarkable. Truly remarkable! He got better and better and more of the old Andy came out to play! So good to see that spark. More practice will mean he’s more confident with his trademark shots.
Hope he recovers well And gets that ice bath.
Wow what a Murray rollercoaster!
A remarkable comeback from a truly remarkable player. Lovely to see some of the up coming players watching too; shows how much respect they have for him. His career will come to an end at some point - as all sports careers do - but wow what a legacy he will leave us! x

That was just super-human! He was pretty flat in the first couple of sets, and I admit I was beginning to think it was going to get away from him. but to go 2 sets and a break down, and pull off that win just shows what this man is made of! Guts, determination, fighting spirit - and a metal hip!
He’s gone through a lot, but after all of that, he’s still Andy Murray :big grin:
Andy being interviewed on Prime now
Wow, just wow!!!! How amazing was that.
Must admit I was worried he was sick during the first two sets. He just didn't seem to have any energy. My live stream kept disappearing, very frustrating. Then the livestream behaved and Andy came to life.
I did wonder if he purposely lost those first two sets to test himself and see if he could win in 5 but no, I really don't think he would do that, would he????
Radio five live did some live commentary on the match and it reminded me of the old Andy.
Can i just say, as someone who's had 2 successful total hip replacements, Andy has had his hip resurfaced, not replaced. So he's got more of his natural bone left. This is good for younger active people like him. Yes he's putting it under stress and strain and later in life he may need a total replacement. But for now, he's good. And watching him last night it wasn't his body that let him down over 5 grueling sets, it was his tennis in the first 2. Doubtless to some degree down to lack of serious matchplay. I'm not going to stress over his hip any more unless he indicates otherwise. He said himself he got off to a slow tentative start largely due to worrying about his stamina for a long match.... to which he then subjected himself
Andy's presser is here. Also posted on newspaper thread.

Highlights of the match - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n69x_kJYqq8
just copied this from Andy's presser - "I've just played a four-and-a-half hour match when I never thought I'd be able to. I felt way better today at the end of that match than I did when I played Bautista in Australia. I'm not sitting here with my hip throbbing and aching. I'll be able to sleep fine tonight and things like that.
Yeah, my quality of life is significantly better. I would imagine that would probably improve my general mood and general well-being."
