Didn’t know where to put this. Just heard on radio news Andy tested positive, feeling ok, isolating at home, still intending to play Australia.

Frustrating, sure Andy will follow the guidance. Think will need to see about Australia.

I cannot believe that Sandgren was allowed to travel so soon after a Positive test.
Given the timescales, I'd be very surprised if Andy is allowed to compete.

The authorities are saying he's a 'recovered case', so are they saying he's not contagious ?

Ten days after test, travel then 14 days quarantine - maybe just?
I wonder where Andy picked it up from, and whether other team or family would also test positive?
wouldn't time in quarantine in UK count towards 14 days in quod in Oz?
I cannot believe that Sandgren was allowed to travel so soon after a Positive test.
Because he had the virus with symptoms 8 weeks previously. So later tests will be picking up non-infectious viral shedding from that.

So sorry for Andy that his plans have been thrown into disarray. After 5 finals I'm sure Aus is the one he wants most and few chances left. Keeping everything crossed for the 2 neg tests he needs to depart in time. Good luck Andy :peace::peace::peace:

Very sad for Andy. I cant see him being allowed to catch a later flight as I thought I'd read that one of the conditions was that players caught the chartered flights.
Fingers crossed!!

Horrible news although we all know if there's a way, Andy will find it! It also means he can be less worried once he's there!
Please, please, please Andy!
I've been reading some positive reports that he may make it to Aus. I wonder how many days he's already been in quarantine? Reports suggest he is feeling ok. Main thing is as long as he and his family are safe and well. There's one thing I do know for certain, Andy will not do anything which would be unsafe. Do feel for him as he suffers setback after setback on his return to competitive tennis. But this is not as bad as this time 2 years ago when we thought it might be all over and we were in the depths of despair.
I read about it, yesterday, and I hope he'll be able to play at the Aussie Open.
Pains me to say that the gist from down under doesn’t look positive.
This can’t possibly end well.

There were only 2 positive cases. So not that many. 47 have to quarantine as a formality though may test positive later. Will be interesting to see. I remember people thought it would tear through the Diamond Princess and didn't, so fingers x'd for Vika, Sloane and all concerned.
Funny how things turn out - Andy better off for testing positive earlier and not being on that official flight.

The Guardian article mentions that players are isolating in their rooms and allowed out to practise five hours a day. However, those on a charter flight with somebody testing positive cannot even leave their rooms to practise during their quarantine period. I am not sure if there will be time for Andy to recover and be able to fly out there and meet the AO conditions.

Yes if Andy does get to go he might just be safer than everyone else. If those found positive now, just off flights and able to quarantine maybe just a chance they will accept Andy doing it the other way around. Especially if they have allowed Tennys Sandgren because he has had it over with........just not wanting to rule Andy out just yet :no worries:

What I’ve read was saying he wasn’t symptomatic ( at that point anyway) so recovery might not be an issue.
I had what turned out to be a false positive COVID test a few months back - later the antibody test came back as negative. Not saying Andy has a false positive just that it’s not straight forward - some test positive but have no symptoms, some are really ill, others have negative tests but clearly have it. But the only thing tennis officials can go on is test results.
Over 70 players now affected.

Yes, I had a negative antibody result and the confirmation email stated that I could've had covid. Which actually defeated the purpose of having the test :rolling:

Tennis Australia has also pledged to make special allowances for more than 70 players thrown into hard lockdown as close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases. The dates for the Australian Open, however, won't be changed.
Tiley said there was "certainly an advantage" for those players who are able to utilise a five-hour training block during mandatory quarantine. Tennis Australia is in talks with tennis tours about tinkering with the plans for the five tournaments – including the ATP Cup – that will run concurrently at Melbourne Park in the week before the Open.
He said the nine-day window after players exit hard quarantine from next Friday until the major starts on February 8 offers some flexibility.
"What we need to do is that by the time they come out until the time they play is try and elongate that time as long as possible, and then provide the right schedule to that group," Tiley said.
"We’ll review that with the tours and probably in the next few days make some decisions.

• A few of you have asked to clarify the COVID-era rankings system, when points drop off, etc. Here’s an email the ATP sent out this week:
“Dear Players & Team Members,
Due to the delayed start to the 2021 ATP Tour season, the ATP has extended the "Best Of" ranking logic in the FedEx ATP Rankings through and including the tournament week of 15 March 2021 (Acapulco & Dubai).
The dates and events that fall under the "Best Of" logic extension period are summarised below:
· The ATP will continue to add points to players' breakdowns in the "Best Of" logic through and including the tournament week of 15 March (Acapulco & Dubai).
· Assuming a traditional calendar is resumed as planned, starting with the week of 22 March (Miami) all events added to the rankings will be added on a rolling 52-week basis, as they were prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
· Doha, Santiago, Marseille, Acapulco, and Dubai will now be treated as events with a "Best Of" ranking logic.
"BEST OF" RANKING LOGIC RECAP
· A player cannot count the same Tour-level tournament twice in his ‘Best 19’ breakdown. For example, a player who played Dubai in 2020 and plays Dubai again in 2021, will count the better of those two results.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
· The "Best Of" logic extension does not alter the date of when points will begin to drop from players' breakdowns. The first ranking drop date will remain on 15 March.
· 2019 Indian Wells points will drop from the rankings on 15 March, 104 weeks from when the event was added to the rankings.”

Yippee. I hope there's a way through for Andy and the organisers show some flexibility to the *5 time finalist* ! (while keeping safe, of course). He's lucky he can afford a private jet, so hopefully a negative test and private flight would be enough to get him down under :peace::peace::peace:

Given the time difference I’m thinking it’ll be tomorrow.

If he does go hopefully he would be able to practice 5 hours a day while quarantining and get somewhere with a window that opens.

I am okay with that decision. I do think that given the nature of this (insert swearword of your choice) pandemic gathering vast numbers of people for an international tennis tournament is a bit out of order. The little national tournaments where there is much greater control has been a great compromise.
Cricket has managed it because there is a limited number of players and their bio secure bubbles seem to work.
Sad for AM though.
Can't see how this could have gone any other way, sadly.

Gutted!
Just checking out the facts that the Daily Fail said Andy probably caught Covid from National Tennis Centre.
Found this
Independent (https://inews.co.uk/sport/tennis/andy-murray-covid-19-australian-open-kyle-edmund-injury-823656) - Andy Murray dodges training base Covid scare but injured Kyle Edmund pulls out of Australian Open 2021
Meanwhile a positive Covid-19 test at the National Tennis Centre cast brief doubt over whether Murray and Evans’ Australian Open plans would be thrown into disarray, only for the players to be given the all-clear.
A number of players including Murray, who has been hitting with British No 1 Evans, have been using Roehampton as their training base and it also hosted the Battle of the Brits in Christmas week.
A round of Covid-19 testing for all those present on Thursday is understood to have returned a positive result for one player who will now self-isolate for 10 days and will not be allowed to train for 10 days after that
The "Thursday" they refer to would I guess be 7th Jan - and if Andy had tested negative by the time the article was written on the 10th Jan -
this probably refers to when Andy was tested on the same day as the player testing positive.
On Jan 14th Newspapers reported Andy with a positive COVID test - that is is a maximum of 7 days after he was probably exposed at the Tennis Centre - but it was probably a day or two earlier he took the test as it takes a day or two to get results and he was coming out of quarantine around 22nd January.
So the timing is right.
