Naomi vs Garbine = popcorn match!

I thought Vekic beating Kanepi 6-4 in the 3rd was a good contest, Karolina Pliskova faltering again and lost 7-6,7-5 to Muchova (despite leadng 5-0 in 2nd at one point!)
Some tight contest in the last 16, Naomi osaka got the better of Gabrine Mugiruza 4-6,6-4,7-5 coming back from match points down https://www.wtatennis.com/news/2028198/osaka-saves-match-points-to-beat-muguruza-in-melbourne Simona Halep fought back well against Iga Swiatek 3-6,6-1,6-4. Serena Williams overcame Aryna Sabalenka 6-4,2-6,6-4. It is Halep v Williams next.

So hope Naomi can beat Serena but it's looking unlikely. Would love to see Ash get to the final as well.

Ash should get to final, other semi looks more challenging. Even with Serena in form thought Simona would have offered more resistance.

Although I am not a fan of Serena you have to admire her, she was pretty amazing in the match against Simona earlier

From Sofia Kenin, following early round losses at the AO and WTA Melbourne events:
Acute appendicitis was diagnosed following the completion of my CT scan. I had to have surgery and had my appendix removed on Monday, February 15, at Epworth Hospital Richmond. I want to thank everyone at Epworth Hospital Richmond for taking good care of me.
Sorry to see that Ash Barty lost.
Get well soon Sofia!

Surprised Ash Barty went out and she was cruising in the first set/early part of 2nd but medical time out from Mochova seemed to change the course of the match , disappointing from Barty in the 3rd. Muchova v Brady in the semis. Hopefully Sofia will be fine in due course.https://ausopen.com/articles/match-report/barty-boilover-muchova-outlasts-local-hero

The final will be between Naomi Osaka and Jennifer Brady. Osaka in the end had a relatively straightforward win over Serena Williams 6-3,6-4. Williams broke at the start and lead 2-0 before the Japanese star pretty much controlled the rest of the set and whilst serena broke back for 4 all in 2nd could not maintain the momentum. Williams with twice as many unforced errors as winners (24 to 12) . A 3 setter in the next semi but Brady got past Karolina Muchova 6-4,3-6,6-4.

Second seeds Mertens and Sabalenka have just won the women's doubles title, beating third seeds Krecjikova and Siniakova.

Some cracking tennis but it's Osaka who takes the first set 6-4 against Brady.
Both have broken serve and both saved further break points.

Certainly Naomi Osaka showed us some grsat tennis throughout the tournament and was impressive in the straight sets win ,thought hoped it might have been a bit closer. It was not necessarily her best tennis in the 1st and Brady had a shot once she recovered early break but once Osaka ahead dominated , Brady came into it a bit towards the end but it was too late. Naomi's 4th Slam and 100 % record in GS Finals thus far! Well done
:cheer::cheer:
Clay and Grass has been more challenging for her, be interesting to see how she fares on these surfaces in the months ahead.
