There's some big names at this event including a few who were knocked out of the AO in the early rounds and have been given WCs eg Kenin (not Kevin) and Andreescu.
Also Jo Konta and Katie Boulter.

Although Tig won 6-1 6-4 Francesca fought really well in set 2 breaking back more than once. She later reached round 2 of the doubles with Podoroska but they play the 2nd seeds next. I thought Jo Konta was in the singles draw here but her name has disappeared.

Jo withdrew early this morning because that abdominal strain is still causing problems. She's down to play in Adelaide next week but much depends on whether the injury clears up completely in time. Otherwise she could give it a few weeks and return in March for Miami.
