After a decent showing in the 2nd half of 2019, and on return from hip resurfacing, it was hoped Andy would be able to continue to climb back up the rankings.
BUT, Covid struck the world and along with everything else the tennis professional tours were severely affected with no play for a few months. As with all the other players Andy spent time at home and worked on his fitness levels but everyone lacked match practice.
It made life very difficult for Andy trying to keep momentum following his return to the tour in autumn 2019. A rough year was capped off by new injury and withdrawal from the Cologne 2 event after a scan revealed tendonitis of his psoas muscle (not connected to his hip operation).
