""Hawkeye takeover at Wimbledown""
;)

Covid-19 restrictions mean that the traditional Wimbledon sight of well-dressed line judges might not be seen for the first time in the tournament's 144-year history. All England Club committee member Tim Henman admits Hawk-Eye Live is being considered.

I know it old fashioned but I like Wimbledon have linesmen/women. I hope they stay (if Hawkeye is temporary for this year).

Could you imagine having only a ground pass for a day's play, and the usual pictures of crowds standing round the outside courts trying to see whats happening ? I do hope Wimbledon limit the ground pass sales, and organise the stewarding so that courts don't get swamped by numbers

I imagine knowing Wimbledon, if spectators are allowed, it will be run very well indeed. In fact in the Times today it says it is unlikely queuing will be allowed.

WIMBLEDON 2021 - press release (https://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/news/articles/2021-03-18/2021-03-18_update_on_the_championships_2021.html)

(https://twitter.com/christophclarey)Chris Clarey on Twitter (https://twitter.com/christophclarey)- brief summary
Players & teams in official hotels only
2020 ticket holders rolled over to 2022
Ticket sales for 2021 likely in June
Reduced capacity likely
Decisions on capacity for 2021 will be delayed as long as possible
No queues!

Wimbledon also has an update on its planned expansion into adjacent Wimbledon Park. Hope is to be able to stage qualifying on the tournament's extended grounds by 2028

Mike Dickson (https://twitter.com/Mike_Dickson_DM)
Interesting detail about Wimbledon this summer is that it seems, at present, there will not be any 'zoning' like at the Aus Open and that fans will be able to move around the entirety of the site/courts.

Russell Fuller (https://twitter.com/russellcfuller)
If you had tickets from last year’s AELTC Ballot, you will now be offered the chance to buy tickets for next year. There’s no LTA ballot either, but the LTA hopes some online tickets will be set aside for LTA Advantage members.
AELTC predicts there will be a reduced number of spectators (even though in theory all UK Covid restrictions could be lifted a week before). It also talks of being able to increase/decrease attendance during the Championships if need be.

EDIT - moreorless the same information as James has posted above!!!
;)

EDIT 2: more brief information
No Legends Doubles!!!

That's Stan withdrawn.
Kyle Edmund has also withdrawn, per Stu Fraser on Twitter (https://twitter.com/stu_fraser):

Kyle Edmund has withdrawn from Wimbledon this morning. The 26-year-old underwent surgery on his left knee in April and has now determined that he has no chance of recovering in time to play on the grass. He hasn't played since last October and is now ranked No 70.

Just read that Wimbledon and euros will require COVID tests before and after, for Gov data. Was going to try our luck with online sales but not so sure now as getting tests could be a bit of a battle.

JAMES4578

Disappointing but not great surprise in terms of Wimbledon (particularly in the case of Osaka who I thought would need more time), obviously the clay court season has taken its toll on Nadal and less time to prepare for Wimbledon this year. Thought Nadal might have played Olympics though, Naomi Osaka does intend to be at Tokyo.

Article in the Fail on Sunday (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-9704409/Will-Novak-Djokovic-Serena-Williams-Roger-Federer-given-Presidential-Suite.html) about the hotel and restrictions for players at Wimbledon.
Extracts below:

Few players at Wimbledon this year, bar the canine-loving Andy Murray and Jo Konta, will be familiar with Battersea Dogs Home. Yet the chances are that they will all be by the end of their stay at the Championships.

For the famous animal rescue centre is one of the landmarks they will pass, at snail's pace, on their journey to and from the courts during what will be a highly unusual tournament. Complying with Government instruction, this year the players are foregoing the cherished habit of many, which sees them stay in private houses within easy reach of the All England Club. Instead, to remain in the Minimised Risk Environment, they will be laboriously ferried to and from the giant Park Plaza hotel on the south side of Westminster Bridge.

Wimbledon's options were limited when they were told they had to set up a huge bubble for the multinational assembly of competitors, as London has a surprisingly small number of big hotels. The one selected and block-booked for three weeks is actually the capital's third largest, offering 1,019 rooms for participants. Built in 2010 on the site of an old County Hall annex, it is a giant pod that occupies the whole of a busy roundabout set 100 metres back from the Thames. Satnavs will plot the fastest route, and there are several ways of reaching it, depending on traffic. When we did it, the late-afternoon trek from Wimbledon took exactly 40 minutes, while the mid-morning return was stickier at 47 minutes. The British players who live close to Wimbledon, but are nonetheless obliged to move out, may have particular cause to reflect on this as they grind to a standstill.

The guests will discover, via room allocations, that as with everything in tennis, some players are more equal than others.
While the hotel has no outside space, the 63 suites do have balconies, and these are likely to go to the seeded players or those with families in tow. Most intriguing will be to see who gets the sumptuous Presidential Suite. Will it be HRH Roger Federer, or Serena Williams perhaps, or might it be defending men's champion Novak Djokovic? The last women's winner, Simona Halep, does not have children.

Perhaps it is just as well that its location limits the chance to see other people enjoy simple freedoms, such as eating out or having a drink. Players are booked in on a full-board basis by Wimbledon and it will not be permitted to nip out and enjoy the many nearby riverside dining establishments.

Nick Kyrgios-style visits to join local revellers are definitely forbidden until they are out of the tournament and the bubble, not to return. You suspect that the windowless lounge bar, which has lots of leather sofas, will get quite busy. The coaches are likely to be its most regular customers, if other tennis bubbles are anything to go by.

Some will avail themselves of the 15-metre indoor swimming pool, but gym provision is limited. The facilities are likely to be added to by using the hotel's many function spaces to provide extra fitness and dining areas for the players. They will be allowed to book one extra room for their support staff, at a cost of £220 per night for a single and £280 for a double, on a full board basis.

The large majority have been fairly stoic when it comes to moving from bubble to bubble over many months. The opportunity to earn minimum Wimbledon first-round prize money of around £50,000 will serve as a strong incentive to swallow the adjustment to their living conditions.

Start of the qualifying rounds, but I believe the weather isn't supposed to be very good for today. Shame, as I was looking forward to watching it on the Red Button. I remember, three years ago or so, the Red Button started showing it but it could only show court 11.

Dominic Thiem is out of Wimbledon - and out of tennis for 5 weeks at least.

From Chris Clarey on Twitter:

A tough season for Dominic Thiem, one of the leaders in men's tennis, gets tougher.
Diagonosed with a ‘detachment of the posterior sheath of the ulnar side of the right wrist’.
In a splint for 5 weeks. Will miss Wimbledon, Hamburg & Gstaad. Unclear on US Open
