With the release of next week's ATP Draws (ie. no play by Djokovic, Murray or Nadal)
Daniil Medvedev is confirmed to be World No. 2 in the ATP Rankings on 15 March.

Medvedev will thus become the 1st player in the Top 2 since 25 July 2005, other than
the Big 4 of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray.

Note: the ATP rankings have been variously 'frozen' and otherwise tinkered with during the Covid restrictions. Nonetheless, Medvedev has consistently won matches when they counted and that's taken him to this level.

Now that Daniil is world number 1 it seems right that he has a thread. But he was won 1 slam in total to Novak's 3 last season alone, so as much as I like Daniil's personality I'm struggling to view him as the true top dog. We'll see.

Daniil Medvedev will be world number 1 on Monday - as Novak Djokovic is beaten by Jiri Vesely in their quarter-final in Dubai. Medvedev will be the first world number 1 not called Djokovic, Nadal, Federer or Murray for 18 years.
