Good contest but most disappointed at the result. Felt Jamie/Bruno should have had the measure of them and were close to the win earlier, oh well credit to Dan and Neal.
Is that Neal 2 Jamie 0 since they split?

Arevalo/Tecau v Evans/Skupski
[4] Dodig/Polasek v Marach/Saville
[7] Salisbury/Ram v Korda/Mmoh
Kecmanovic/Qureshi v [2] Mektic/Pavic
Anybody know what the problem was just after Salisbury and Ram's match started last night? There was a lot of hanging around and discussion going on but I had the sound off (was watching something else on tv)and didn't manage to hear what it was all about when I un-muted.

Anybody know what the problem was just after Salisbury and Ram's match started last night? There was a lot of hanging around and discussion going on but I had the sound off (was watching something else on tv)and didn't manage to hear what it was all about when I un-muted.
They stopped play at *15-0 on the Dem/Gonz serve after Salisbury/Ram queried whether a winner on the next point was in or out (which would have taken it to *30-0 or 15-15 in their favour). Hawkeye didn't call and the Umpire therefore thought the ball was in!
It looks as though there was a malfunction with the Hawkeye system so no audible sound of an out call for the players so they could stop play and no lights/sound on the Umpires' keypad. The Umpire reported the problem and then said he could see the light to indicate a ball was out or in.
From what I understood about the dialogue, the guidance was that every time there was a disputed point the umpire would have to check the lights on his console and call himself any disputed calls. The players weren't happy with that so play was suspended and the umpire called the supervisor.
Mostly, Demoliner/Gonzelez were unhappy that they'd have to replay the second point (which they won) because Salisbury/Ram thought it was out but there was no Hawkeye call for the Umpire to realise that they were correct.
Very complicated, they couldn't move court because the electrics/Hawkeye were out on other courts too. So, they tried with the Umpire using his light system but then that failed too so eventually, at *30-15 they had to stop play until it was fixed.
It had been working for the prior match on that court.
Play was stopped for around 15 minutes all told.
Thanks Sally for that detailed explanation. What a carry-on!!! ;)
Joe and Rajeev are in to the semis with a 7-5 6-2 win over Korda and Mmoh.
Well done Joe and Rajeev :cheer: :cheer:

Well that 2nd set went by in a flash (and I was watching Masterchef!).
So, 1 set apiece
D/P to serve first:
*0-1 DN break
0-2*
0-3* and hold 2
*1-3
*1-4 oooooooooooooh and another break, that's a bit in the bank for DN
1-5* good serve from Neal to set up that hold
Sallydaisy
01-04-2021, 20:33
1-5* and the Brits need to hold their nerve right now for a place in the Final.
2-5* whoops! not in the script but they're still 1 break up on t'others
*3-5
*4-5 Dan needs to hold both his serves right now ...
4-6* 1 down ...
4-7* that'll do nicely
*5-7 at the change of ends
Sallydaisy
01-04-2021, 20:36
*5-7 DN could do with another break for safety
*6-7 but Dan hit his shot into the net, Neal needs to hold both his serves
6-8* great serve
6-9* and that brings up 3 match points. Could they break for it???
*7-9 2 match points
Sallydaisy
01-04-2021, 20:37

From the lovely folks on British Tennis:
This puts Neal ahead of Jamie in 19th in the rankings.
Dan and Neal go equal 8th in the race (for now, it's very early in the season).
Dan goes into the top 90 doubles.

The ATP doubles final in Miami is on Saturday, not before 20:30 BST.
Dan Evans/Neal Skupski, GBR v [2] Nikola Mektic/Mate Pavic, CRO

On serve, Neal has the honour at *1-2.
The Brits hold to 30, 2-2.
Sallydaisy
03-04-2021, 19:57
The Brits get an early break after a DF from Mektic, Dan to serve at *3-2,
The Croats break straight back ... 3-3.
Sallydaisy
03-04-2021, 20:11
4-4, Neals' serve came under pressure in that game.
First set gone - 4-6
Come on guys
Sallydaisy
03-04-2021, 20:20
Mektic/Pavic take the first set 6'4.
The Brits have played really well, just one or two errors and the Croats making the most of any chance. It's excellent doubles and really good to see Dan and Neal working so well as a team in their first event together, especially against the [2] seeds!
Sallydaisy
03-04-2021, 20:41
3-3 no breaks yet in the 2nd set.
Sallydaisy
03-04-2021, 20:52
It could all come down to the next game ...
... Mektic/Pavic just held to lead 6'4, 5'4
So, Dan/Neal are serving to stay in the match.
Oh no!!! They lost, but with a little bit of luck they could have won. Anyway, well done to Dan and Neal getting to the final.  :GBflag:

Valiant effort from Dan and Neal but it was always a tough ask. Superb to have made the final (and history!). I feel so happy to be watching British players in big time matches again. What a buzz.
