Katie Boulter made a good start against former junior rival (16) Elise Mertens BEL,
with an early break in the 1st set *3-1. Mertens faced going 0-4 but having held
her serve she broke Boulter and is now serving at *2-3. On serve, as you were.

From Carole Bouchard on Twitter:
Long MTO for Boulter’s right foot.
With the camera angle, couldn’t see if it was blisters or something else.
Mertens then holds for 4-4.

Mertens took it 6-4,6-1, however Katie certainly gave her a challenge in the 1st set. Hopefully the foot will be ok in due course.

Ash Barty wins the Miami Title 6-3, 4-0 ret'd by Bianca Andreescu.
The Canadian fell early in the 2nd set and had the physio on at 0-3.
Shame to lose that way but Barty had been quick off the blocks & dominated the 1st set.

Pity for Andreescu which put paid to chance of real contest. However I think Ash Barty would have won anyway and the strong start certainly helped, well done!

Very sad for Bianca tbh but I do love Ash Barty. She is a phenomenal player and a lovely human being. I do love her style of play. No bish bash bosh and awful grunting from her! Bianca did very well to get to the final so kudos for that!
