MADRID - a combined ATP/WTA event.
Ladies Qualifying starts 27th April, Main Draw Singles on Thur 29th.
Mens Qualifying starts on 1st May, Main Draw Singles on Mon 3rd.
Now a 2 week event for the WTA with a bigger draw.
The Mutua Madrid Open has announced that as from 2021, it will be a two-week tournament. The extension reaffirms what the organizers call the "spirit of growth" at the only combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA Premier Mandatory to be played in Europe. It means the next Mutua Madrid Open will take place from April 27 to May 9 at the Caja Mágica in 2021.

Djokovic has withdrawn from Madrid.
Other withdrawals (Monfils, Federer, Wawrinka) mean that Cameron Norrie is 2nd Alt and he has withdrawn from Qualfying, presumably because there's a chance he might get into the Main Draw.
EDIT
Cameron Norrie makes it into the Main Draw for Madrid.

Sorry but they are actually third match listed - there is a WTA Doubles between the ATP matches looking at the TNNS schedule which gives both ATP and WTA.

Thanks Winnie, I've posted the info on the Madrid doubles thread also. It's so annoying that the WTA and ATP sites don't show a full OOP when there is a combined event.
Thanks exislander. The ATP site should have left a gap.
The pdf version does have the women on. http://www.protennislive.com/posting/2021/1536/op.pdf

[16]Cristian Garin d [2]Daniil Medvedev 6'4, 6'7, 6'1
MeddyBear had a nose bleed in the 2nd set so had a MTO, and hasn't seemed that happy on the Devil Dirt at all in this tournament. It's his first tourney back after nearly 3 weeks (isolation/training) from contracting Covid-19.

So, that's both Medvedev and Tsitsipas out ... and Isner beat Rublev.

A few surprising results (even if Medvedev may not be at full fitness), particularly disappointed that Stefanos is out.

Thiem comes through a very tough match against Isner 3'6, 6'3, 6'4.
He's into the Madrid 1/4 Finals to face either Nadal or Zverer - they're next on court.

Certainly tight but glad Dom came through, from down a break Zverev now serving for the first.

Ruud d Bublik 7'5, 6'1
Garin leads Berretini 7'5, *2'1 with a break of serve
Sallydaisy

Berretini turned the match around big time!
He beat Garin 5'7, 6'3, 6'0. Suggests Garin might have had a problem?

MADRID FINALS
14:25: Granollers/Zeballos vs Mektic/Pavic
17.30: Zverev vs Berrettin
Sallydaisy

Zverev served first, all going with serve.
Berretini *2-3 serving now.
Sallydaisy
09-05-2021, 17:21
Berretini breaks first, serving at *4-3. Long way to go yet ...
... Zverev broke back and held for 5-4.
Sallydaisy
09-05-2021, 17:54
Crikey, tie-break and it's 8-8!
Berretini gets the vital break and will serve for the first set at *9-8
Sallydaisy

1st set Berretini 7'6(8)
Sallydaisy
09-05-2021, 18:40
Aaah, Zverev takes the 2nd set 6'4.
Berretini had the break and was serving at *4-3, just 2 games from the title.
But Berry had a blip, dropped his serve and Zverev held and broke again for the set.
Sallydaisy

Zverev takes the title in Madrid 6'7, 6'4, 6'3.
:trophy:
He hung tough after losing the first set and Berretini gradually faltered after losing his chance to win the 2nd set. Shame for him but he showed how good he is today.
For Zverev it's a 4th Masters title.
He now has 15 ATP titles - more than: Nick Kyrgios (6) Fernando Verdasco (7) Milos Raonic (8) Fabio Fognini (9) Ivan Ljubicic (10) Patrick Rafter (11) Tim Henman (11) Kei Nishikori (12) Tomas Berdych (13) Sergi Bruguera (14) same as Marat Safin (15)

Tough contest and Berretini had a shot but ultimately Zverev found a way and showed impressive form this week (even if maybe not his best day) Credit to Matteo for his display even if he will be a bit disappointed.
