ROLAND GARROS MENS SINGLES DRAW
Rafa Nadal (3rd seed, which is nonsense) will potentially meet Novak Djokovic in the SF.
Medvedev is the 2nd seed on this occasion.
Full draw below - I'll type it up later.
BRITISH BOYS (from Steven on Twitter (https://twitter.com/GBtennis)) - R1 and a little beyond.
25th seed Dan Evans has drawn Miomir Kecmanović SRB WR 48 (CH 38 in Mar). The Serb
is on a 4-match losing streak, though to be fair, it started against Djokovic in the Belgrade QFs
Cameron Norrie will play a qualifier in R1, potential R2 doesn't look too bad either
but whoever wins that mini-section is likely to face Rafa in R3

Big upset on opening day as Dominic Thiem goes down to Pablo Andújar 6-4 in the 5th, Dom had taken the first two. Disappointing and Thiem has not had the best of seasons thus far, however some great tennis from Pablo.

Well today goes from bad to worse with Domi's departure. Has the clay game to be a real contender and an opportunity with Novak and Nadal in the same half, but his best form continues to elude him. What a pity. I hoped winning in NY would get the slam monkey off his back and he'd play with more freedom this year, but sadly not the case so far.

Zverev appeared to be struggling somewhat but convincing in the end. Philippe-Chatrier has a retractable roof, the others have floodlights. The night matches will be played behind closed doors, other than the last session on 9 June. https://tennishead.net/french-open-lights-up-as-another-tradition-dies/

New roof and new lights so they can first time this year. They did survey about it few months ago if I am aware about this etc etc.
I find the RG official website a bit baffling. They are only showing live scores for six matches!! I'm watching the match on court nine (Heather is on there next) but there is no sign of it on LS. There are eleven matches being played right now if the order of play is correct. Also, when I click on the three little horizontal lines where it says "Menu" nothing happens.
I really am not impressed!!
Is anybody else having these problems. or it is just me!!?
Try this link Jane.

Thanks, Hawkeye. I actually found the whole LS by clicking on two little dots at the bottom of the page where I was only seeing six matches. Getting new glasses tomorrow!! :)

Mens 3rd Round results so far today:
[2] Medvedev d [32] Opelka
[6] Zverev d Djere
[12] Carreno-Busta d Johnson
[22] Garin d Giron
Nishikori d Laaksonen (ret'd)
F.Delbonis d [27] Fognini (yippee!!!!!!!)
Davidovich-Fokina d Ruud (that was the shock of the day)
Still to play:
[5] Tsitsipas v [31] Isner
FOGNINI - "What is it with hot-headed players punching their own rackets at Roland Garros this year? First Karen Khachanov a few days ago and now Fabio Fognini have each let out their anger on their rackets to such an extent as to then require medical attention for the injuries they sustained in the tantrums. Fognini was taking on Federico Delbonis."

Certainly a tussle between Rudd and Davidovich-Fokina but the spaniard took it 7-5 in the 5th after Casper had a bagel in the 4th. Disappointed for the Norwegian though. Most of the other matches seemingly fairly routine, though Garin won 6-2 in the 4th after losing the 4th 6-1. (though obviously drama with Fognini again) Quite a good match with Tsitsipas and Isner last night with Stefanos taking it in 4, after dropping 1st.

Shame Fed has withdrawn but a very sensible decision. There was no way of knowing ahead of time how long he would be on court for each match or how his body would respond. Now he has made an informed choice. I wish him good luck - he is inspiring many people, including Andy, and me thinking Andy could still be playing for another 5 years or so :)

Great effort from Diego Schwartzman against Nadal for three sets but unfortunately could not sustain it and Rafa found another gear. Nadal through 6-3,4-6,6-4,6-0. He will now meet Djokovic in the semis after he got past Berrettini 6-3,6-2,6-7,7-5. Certainly become competitive after two routine sets, crowd not keen to observe 11 pm curfew and players had to go off court for short time till place was empty! Novak going a bit beserk after winning moment, took a tumble at one point which could have been nasty but did not let that put him off his stride. Tsitsipas and Zverev in the other semi who both won quarters in straights (stefanos impressive winner over Medvedev last night though clay not the Russian's favourite surface)
suttontennis
10-06-2021, 11:57
Not too impressed with Novak's celebration, don't think Berrettini was either judging by the rather quick handshake. The Italian needs to work on his drop shots as he dumped half a dozen in the bottom of the net. His game is too one dimensional to worry the top two, but he's certainly got plenty of power, the noise of the ball coming off his racquet is quite amazing. But Novak nullified it as he usually does

Enjoyable match as Tsitsipas gets past Zverev 6-3,6-3,4-6,4-6,6-3. When Sascha lost initiative in 2nd looked tough for the German but he fought back well, however failed to capitalise on 3 break points at start of decider and Stefanos then was able to step up and remain strong whilst Zverev did not have the answers. Anyway good semi and prefer Tsitsipas ,hope he now performs well in the final as he will need to be sharp against either Nadal or Djokovic !

Incredible tennis and Djokovic was so strong at crucial moments, though Nadal obviously had amazing moments too. A big win for Nole in these circumstances, though was a bit surprised Rafa was unable to put Djokovic under more pressure at the end. Whilst the clear favourite think Tsitsipas still may l have a shot on Sunday if Nole cannot quite produce his best after the high, as long as he is on top form.

Djokovic takes 2nd French title and 19th slam over Tsitsipas 6-7,2-6,6-3,6-2,6-4. Stefanos fought hard in closing stages but Djokovic prevailed in strong fightback and was the better player when it mattered. Pity for Tsitsipas but chance should come, could not quite the sustain the level when it was needed and the world no1 came on strong and is obviously one of the greats of the game. However Tsitsipas can still be proud of his efforts even if not quite enough today.

Well, too patchy to be an absolute classic but a much better match than I was expecting after the brutally brilliant semis. Stef can be so proud - fantastic performance in a maiden slam final- and Novak, what a phenomenal champion who will surely finish his career the goat. I'm so impressed that Andy has been an integral part of tennis' greatest ever generation. Long may they reign - Andy will be back in the mix as we move onto the grass. Not sorry that Novak will be tired. Always been a huge challenge to win RG and Wimbo back to back, even harder with smaller gap. Enjoy today Novak, it's not going your way on the grass. Go Andy! :grass::rolling:
